Crayon vs Klue (2026): Same Median Price, Different Invoice, and What AI Engines Say About Both
Crayon and Klue are the two enterprise competitive intelligence platforms every buyer shortlists, and neither will tell you a price until you book a call. Most comparisons of them are written by a third vendor and repeat each other. This one reads both vendors' pages on the day, both G2 listings, both Vendr benchmark pages and the Reddit threads where buyers price them, and adds a section no vendor-claim comparison has: what four AI answer engines actually cited when asked about each.
Key takeaways
- Neither publishes a price. Vendr's benchmark pages on 4 September 2026 put both medians at $30,000 a year: Crayon $12,700 to $46,000 across 93 purchases, Klue $16,000 to $60,000 across 106.
- The invoice differs. Crayon prices by competitors tracked, seats and tier; Klue prices per user with volume discounts. Few users watching many rivals favours Klue's model; many sellers consuming a few battlecards favours Crayon's.
- Crayon is monitoring first: AI importance scoring, news summarisation, battlecards into Salesforce, Slack and Highspot, win-loss from CRM data. Klue is enablement and win-loss first: Compete Agent, Deal Tips, human expert interviews, an AI voice interviewer and blindspot interviews.
- Klue ships an MCP server listed in the Claude Connector Directory, role-governed, OAuth or API key. Crayon describes embedding intel into ChatGPT, Glean and Copilot; no MCP server appears on its pages.
- G2 on the day: Klue 4.7 on 444, Crayon 4.6 on 385. Klue's complaints are depth, alert noise and overload; Crayon's are mobile, integrations, and one recent reviewer's 'AI features too little too late'.
- Measured on our own prompts, Crayon led CI vendors on ChatGPT share of voice at 8.1 percent and was named first in every Claude answer that named it; Klue appeared on Gemini and second on Claude. Asked for Crayon alternatives, engines cited G2 and AlphaSense, never crayon.co.
- Reddit prices the entry conversation at $15,000 to $20,000 and describes the gap below it as unfilled. We sell a $99 product in that gap and say so.
01The short answer
Buy Klue if your competitive intelligence programme is a sales enablement programme: a large seller population that needs deal-specific answers, and a win-loss practice you want run for you with human and AI interviews. Buy Crayon if it is a monitoring programme: many competitors, many functions, a small team of curators, and battlecards that need to land in Salesforce and Slack. Both cost the same at the median, and the value metric decides which one costs you more at your shape.
Buy neither if you are the r/DigitalMarketing product marketer with twenty competitors in a spreadsheet and no five-figure line to spend. That is a real and large group, and the last section is for them.
02Pricing: the same median, a different invoice
Crayon’s pricing page is a form headed “Crayon’s pricing is tailored to the needs of your competitive intelligence program” that asks for company size and CI goals before anyone quotes a number. Klue’s pricing link resolves to its homepage, which has no price on it. Both are quote-based, and both have the same shape underneath, so the useful numbers come from Vendr’s benchmark pages, which aggregate anonymised contracts, read on 4 September 2026.
| Crayon | Klue | Source | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Published price | None; inquiry form | None; no pricing page | Vendor sites, 4 September 2026 |
| Median contract (Vendr) | $30,000 a year | $30,000 a year | vendr.com/marketplace, 4 September 2026 |
| Range (Vendr) | $12,700 to $46,000 | $16,000 to $60,000 | Vendr |
| Purchases in the dataset | 93, buyers saving 20% on average | 106, buyers saving 18% on average | Vendr |
| Value metric | Number of competitors tracked, plus seats, tier and term | Number of users, tiered volume discounts, plus tier and term | Vendr |
| Tiers named | Essentials, Professional, Enterprise | Essentials, Professional, Enterprise (Vendr: 'typically') | Vendr |
| Entry conversation, per buyers | $15,000 to $20,000 a year | $15,000 to $20,000 a year | r/SaaS, r/DigitalMarketing threads, 2026 |
The value metric is the whole comparison for many buyers, and a vendor blog put it plainly this July: “Klue charges per user; Crayon sizes the contract by competitors tracked.” Vendr’s pages say the same thing in more words. So price the shape of your programme, not the median. A product marketing team of three watching thirty competitors will find Crayon’s meter running and Klue’s idle; a sales organisation of two hundred consuming eight battlecards will find the reverse.
03What each platform does, from its own pages
Crayon describes itself around a cycle its navigation spells out: Aggregate, Organize, Publish, Enable, Measure. Crayon AI “mines intel from your data, creates instant content, and enables your reps with talk tracks and sales plays”. The monitoring layer surfaces “high-priority insights” to your inbox, summarises news about competitors with AI, and scores changes by importance so a curator can sort high to low. Sparks, its AI feature, runs saved analyses on a schedule. Publishing is battlecards in Salesforce, Slack, Highspot “and other tools”, announcements and newsletters. Enablement is intel at the seller’s fingertips, a team leaderboard and manager coaching. Measurement is win-loss analysis, battlecard engagement data and influenced revenue. A G2 reviewer notes the win-loss view depends on sellers entering competitor data in Salesforce, and the Impact tool is not useful without Salesforce.
Klue calls itself “the AI platform for Competitive Intelligence and Win-Loss” and organises around two suites. Competitive intelligence: the Compete Agent that collects, curates and shares intel; Auto Insights that generate content for research, for sellers in live deals and as “the trusted source for your internal LLM”; and Deal Tips sent to sellers’ inboxes. Win-loss: Human Expert Interviews run by Klue’s analysts, an AI Interviewer that holds short voice conversations with buyers and sellers across every deal, Blindspots Interviews with buyers from evaluations you were never part of, and a Win and Loss Story Agent generated from CRM data and call recordings when a deal closes. Klue claims 250,000 users and G2 leadership in four categories.
The honest one-line difference: Crayon reads the market and hands sellers a card; Klue reads the market and also interviews the buyer. Klue’s win-loss suite is the capability with no Crayon equivalent on the pages we read. Crayon’s breadth of monitored change types and its importance scoring are what its reviewers praise most.
04Agent readiness: Klue has an MCP server, Crayon describes embedding
This is the comparison point that did not exist a year ago and matters most to a buyer working in Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT. Klue’s site leads with it: “Klue is officially in the Claude Connector Directory”, and its integration page describes an MCP server that gives Claude “a single, governed connection to your competitive intelligence, battlecards, and win-loss insights”. Klue calls itself “the only competitive intelligence and win-loss vendor verified on the official Claude Connector Directory”. Access is role-governed: every role can search and read battlecards and recent intel, curators and admins can create and update cards from the chat, and win-loss transcripts are admin-only. Two authentication paths, OAuth 2.0 for individuals and an API key for server-side agents. Example prompts on the page include “How do I deposition Acme Corp?” and “Update the Acme Corp battlecard”.
Crayon’s homepage offers to teach you to “embed competitive intel into ChatGPT, Glean, Copilot, and more”, and a G2 reviewer this year wished it “integrated with OpenAI”. No MCP server appears on the pages we read. That does not mean none exists behind a login; it means a buyer reading Crayon’s public pages on the day cannot find one, and a buyer reading Klue’s cannot miss it.
For comparison, every Linkeddit capability, including Compete’s briefs and signals and Answer Radar’s measurements and fixes, is an MCP tool over one URL on the $99 plan; the connector page lists them, and the playbooks are recorded transcripts.
05What G2 says, both sides
Both listings fetched on 4 September 2026. Klue: 4.7 out of 5 on 444 reviews, 88 percent five-star, 10 percent four-star. Crayon: 4.6 on 385, 75 percent five-star, 23 percent four-star. Neither has a meaningful one- or two-star share. The distributions say both products satisfy the people who bought them; the dislike answers say what they wish were different.
Klue’s dislikes, in reviewers’ words: “The information isn’t always up to date, and even when it is, it often lacks depth. I’d really like more context on what a competitor’s tool actually does, rather than just a brief summary.” “Alert refinement needs to be simpler, as lots of noise comes through. The rules inside the settings need to be made easier.” “Within the battlecards, we have seen information overload with too much detail.” “The data and reporting dashboards weren’t something we used much as a company.” Several reviewers report no complaints at all.
Crayon’s dislikes: “It would be better if Crayon had a mobile app that Sales reps could use ... during a client call.” “I wish they integrated with OpenAI.” “It doesn’t integrate with google workspace for chat monitoring.” “Our organization doesn’t use Salesforce as a CRM, so the Impact tool isn’t of use to us.” And the sharpest, from a recent review: “New CSM is barely there ... AI features are not helpful, and too little too late compared to competitors. Very manual process of battlecard and intelligence maintenance, no help with standardizing templates. Planning to switch.” Most Crayon reviewers praise setup, support and daily use.
“AI features are not helpful, and too little too late compared to competitors. Very manual process of battlecard and intelligence maintenance, no help with standardizing templates.”
06What buyers say on Reddit
Reddit does not argue Crayon against Klue. It groups them, prices them and walks away. Three threads from this year make the pattern.
The nine-tool analysis in r/SaaS, 100 comments: “Crayon: the big name in competitive intelligence. They scrape everything: pricing pages, job postings, press releases, product updates. Starting around $15K/year though. Clearly built for companies with 50+ employees and dedicated competitive intel teams. Klue: similar to Crayon but more focused on sales enablement (battlecards, win/loss analysis). Same price range.” The author’s conclusion: “there’s basically nothing between free change alerts with no interpretation and $15K+/year enterprise CI platforms.”
The product marketer in r/DigitalMarketing with twenty competitors in a spreadsheet: “I looked at tools like Klue and Crayon, but they’re incredibly expensive. From what I could find, we’d be talking somewhere around $15k to $20k+ per year. I genuinely don’t think I could get that approved for competitor tracking.” They built their own.
The startup question in r/AskMarketing: “I know tools like Klue or Crayon but they seem to be built for enterprise sales teams, not for startups (both in pricing and complexity).” The most useful reply was not about tools: “early stage teams usually dont need more data they need better interpretation, most of the edge comes from spotting what competitors are not saying or cannot prove.” A vendor in the same thread summarised the incumbents as built “for teams with dedicated CI analysts and $20K+ budgets”.
“There's basically nothing between free change alerts with no interpretation and $15K+/year enterprise CI platforms. If you're a 5 to 50 person SaaS team, your options are: get raw change alerts and spend 30+ minutes every week figuring out what changed, pay $15K+ for Crayon or Klue and get way more than you need, or do it manually.”
07Measured: what four AI engines say about Crayon and Klue
This section is ours and is labelled as such. On 4 September 2026 we ran our own Answer Radar project for linkeddit.com, 21 approved buying questions about competitive intelligence and AI visibility tools, through ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity via their official APIs with grounded search. Two of the questions were “What are the best Crayon alternatives?” and “What are the best Klue alternatives?”, and several others asked for the best competitive intelligence tools for B2B SaaS, for product marketers, and for tracking pricing changes. Everything below is per engine, over admissible samples only, with the counts stated, because the methodology forbids averaging across engines.
| Engine (admissible samples) | Crayon | Klue | Read |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT (7) | 8.1% share of voice, 3 of 37 vendor votes; first product named in all 3 answers naming it | Not in the top five vendors | Crayon led every CI vendor on ChatGPT |
| Claude (10) | 3.8% share of voice, 4 of 104 votes; mean position 1.0 over 4 samples | Mean position 2.0 over 3 samples | Both named; Crayon first, Klue second |
| Gemini (15) | 4.5% share of voice, 7 of 156 votes | 4.5% share of voice, 7 of 156 votes | Tied on Gemini |
| Perplexity (3) | Not in the top five vendors | Not in the top five vendors | Three admissible samples; too few to read |
Two further measurements from the same run. Asked “What are the best Crayon alternatives?”, the four admissible answers cited g2.com three times and alpha-sense.com twice, then a long tail of software directories, sourceforge.net, slashdot.org, softwaresuggest.com, cuspera.com, and small vendor blogs. Crayon’s own domain was cited zero times, and so was ours. The fan-out shows what the engines searched before answering: Claude ran “best Crayon alternatives”, Gemini ran “Crayon alternative software” and “best Crayon competitors AI market intelligence”, and on the broader B2B SaaS question ChatGPT searched “Crayon competitive intelligence platform pricing features” by name.
Across our full population of 220 completed answers about this category, crayon.co was cited once, by ChatGPT, and klue.com four times, once by each engine. Contify’s domain was cited six times, all by Perplexity, and Kompyte’s twice. Engines cite review sites and directories about these tools far more than the tools.

09Verdict, and when to pick neither
Pick Klue if you sell through a large team that needs deal-specific answers, you want win-loss run for you with human and AI interviews, you work in Claude and want the intel there under your existing roles, and you can live with per-user pricing that grows with the sales floor.
Pick Crayon if your programme is monitoring many competitors across functions with a small curator team, you need battlecards to land in Salesforce, Slack or Highspot, you run on Salesforce so the win-loss and Impact views work, and per-competitor pricing fits your shape better than per-seat.
Pick neither if you are the team Reddit describes: five to fifty people, twenty competitors, no CI analyst, no five-figure line. Both platforms assume the analyst exists. We sell Compete into that gap at $99 a month, a weekly graded brief per tracked competitor mined from review sites, Reddit and blogs, with switching-intent signals and every capability callable over MCP. It does not interview your buyers and it does not push cards into Salesforce. If those are the job, buy Klue or Crayon and budget the median.
What we could not verify: any first-party price from either vendor, Crayon’s headquarters and founding date, whether Crayon offers an MCP server behind a login, and Klue’s 250,000-user claim. We have said so where each comes up.
The weekly brief on any competitor, for $99, callable from Claude
Compete grades each tracked competitor’s moves and complaints weekly across review sites, Reddit and blogs, surfaces the buyers ready to switch, and ships every tool over MCP. Answer Radar, which produced the measured section above, is included.
10Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
How much do Crayon and Klue cost?+
Neither publishes a price. Crayon's pricing page is an inquiry form; Klue's pricing link resolves to its homepage. Vendr's marketplace pages, read on 4 September 2026, put the median contract at $30,000 a year for both: Crayon on 93 purchases with a $12,700 to $46,000 range, Klue on 106 purchases with a $16,000 to $60,000 range. Vendr also records the value metric: Crayon prices on the number of competitors tracked plus seats and tier, Klue prices per user with volume discounts. Reddit buyers quote $15,000 to $20,000 a year as the entry conversation for either.
What is the real difference between Crayon and Klue?+
Crayon is competitor monitoring first: it aggregates changes across pricing pages, news, jobs and social, scores their importance with AI, and delivers battlecards into Salesforce, Slack and Highspot, with win-loss read from CRM data. Klue is competitive enablement plus win-loss first: its Compete Agent collects and curates intel, Deal Tips go to sellers on live deals, and its win-loss suite includes human expert interviews, an AI interviewer that runs voice conversations with buyers, and blindspot interviews from deals you were not in. Klue also ships an MCP server listed in the Claude Connector Directory; Crayon's pages describe embedding intel into ChatGPT, Glean and Copilot but no MCP server.
Which has better reviews?+
Both are rated highly on G2 as of the day: Klue 4.7 out of 5 on 444 reviews with 88 percent five-star, Crayon 4.6 on 385 with 75 percent five-star. The complaints differ. Klue reviewers ask for deeper competitor detail, simpler alert rules and less battlecard overload. Crayon reviewers ask for a mobile app, broader integrations, and one recent reviewer calls its AI features too little too late and its battlecard maintenance very manual.
Which one do AI answer engines recommend?+
When we asked ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity our own 21 buying questions about competitive intelligence tools on 4 September 2026, Crayon carried the largest share of voice of any CI vendor on ChatGPT, 8.1 percent, and was the first product named in every Claude answer that named it. Klue appeared on Gemini at 4.5 percent share and at position two on Claude. Asked for Crayon alternatives, the engines cited g2.com three times and alpha-sense.com twice, and never cited crayon.co. Those are our measurements on our prompts; the methodology page explains what they can and cannot say.
Is Klue worth three times Kompyte?+
That comparison is on its own page. Against Crayon the gap is different: the medians are identical at $30,000, and the choice turns on the value metric and the job. If your bottleneck is delivering intel to a large sales team and running win-loss, Klue's per-user model and interview suite fit. If it is watching many competitors across functions with a small team of users, Crayon's per-competitor model fits worse the more rivals you track and better the fewer users you have.
What do small teams do instead?+
Reddit's answer, in several threads this year, is spreadsheets and manual checks, because the gap between free page-change alerts and five-figure enterprise platforms is real. Linkeddit Compete sits in that gap at $99 a month: a weekly graded brief per tracked competitor mined from review sites, Reddit and blogs, with every capability callable over MCP. It does not run buyer interviews and it does not deliver battlecards into Salesforce; the closing section says when to pick Crayon or Klue instead.
