Answer Radar / Claude
Claude visibility tracker: who Claude recommends, which pages it read, and how to run the check from inside Claude
Claude searches the web in most answers and discloses a source every time it does, then recommends a different shortlist from the other three engines more often than not. Answer Radar asks Claude the questions your buyers type, records every citation and search, and shows where a competitor was the recommendation. Because every tool is exposed over MCP, a connected Claude workspace can run the whole loop itself.
Measured data on this page last updated 2026-09-04.
What a Claude citation tracker is
The answer first, because this is the sentence every other definition on the page depends on.
A Claude visibility tracker records, for each question a buyer might ask, whether Claude names your brand, whether it recommends you or only lists you, and which sources it cites while answering. Claude searched in 85.1% of the completed answers in our runs and disclosed a source in every one of those, so its citation list is a fair record of what it read. Answer Radar measures Claude alongside ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini from one prompt set, and exposes every step as an MCP tool a Claude workspace can call.
What Claude actually did across 67 buyer questions
Read-only aggregate of every completed Claude answer Answer Radar has run, 14 runs, to 2026-09-04. Search behaviour counts every answer; who got recommended counts the 26 answers from customer projects only, with our own brand's runs removed. A small B2B software sample, published because nobody else in this category publishes theirs.
The domains Claude leaned on
Share of the 26 customer-project answers in which the domain was cited at least once. 54 distinct domains appeared across 92 citations.
| crm.org | 4 of 26 answers (15.4%) |
| superbcrew.com | 4 of 26 answers (15.4%) |
| sybill.ai | 4 of 26 answers (15.4%) |
| bestcrmforstartups.com | 3 of 26 answers (11.5%) |
| pipedrive.com | 3 of 26 answers (11.5%) |
Niche editorial and directory pages, not the big review platforms: 54 domains in 92 citations, none in more than 15.4% of answers, and no Reddit page at all. The top five overlap with none of ChatGPT's top five on the same prompts, which is the four-engine disagreement practitioners keep reporting, measured.
Who got recommended
- The customer was named in 13 of 26 answers and recommended in 6.
- A tracked competitor was recommended with the customer absent in 6 answers.
- Claude named neither the customer nor any tracked competitor in 4 answers.
- Of 92 citations, 7 pointed at a customer domain and 1 at a competitor domain. The rest were third parties, which is where the fight is.
Claude split evenly between the customer and a rival: recommended the customer in 6 of 26 answers and a competitor alone in 6. A poster in r/aeo summed up the pattern across all four engines: every assistant knows the brand you name, and not one of them recommends it unprompted.
| Engine | Searched the web | Citations per answer | Answers citing Reddit |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | 74.5% | 3.72 | 4.5% |
| Perplexity | 100% | 9.8 | 20% |
| Gemini | 93.5% | 5.27 | 5% |
| Claude | 85.1% | 3.93 | 0% |
Same prompt sets, same projects, completed answers only; the Reddit column counts customer-project answers. Claude is the engine with the cleanest relationship between searching and citing: every searched answer disclosed a source.
How Answer Radar tracks Claude
Four steps, and the third is the one the category skips.
Write the questions a buyer types, not your brand name
Prompt research proposes them from your site and your competitors; you approve the set. Best X for Y, alternatives to Z, is W worth it. A brand-name prompt tells you nothing you did not already know.
Run them against Claude with no steering
No system prompt, no memory, no logged-in history that has already seen your site. Each answer, its citations and its fan-out searches are stored with the run.
Read the sources that decided each answer
For every question you lost, the page shows which URLs Claude read and what they said about the competitor it chose. That is the gap, and the fix is written against that page, not against a score.
Re-run on a schedule and read the delta
Answers move between runs. Answer Radar keeps every run, so the question is never whether your number changed but whether the recommendation did, and on which prompts.
Check one question now, free
Type your brand, two competitors and a question a buyer would ask. This free check runs on Gemini and says so on the result; the paid product runs the same question on Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini and keeps every citation. A connected Claude workspace can start the paid run itself.
Enter your brand and a real buyer question to see whether an answer engine recommends you, and who it recommends instead.
Citation, mention, recommendation, fan-out
Four words this category uses interchangeably. The tracker scores them separately because buyers experience them differently.
Claude citation
A source Claude references while composing an answer, usually a link shown beside or beneath the response. A page can be cited without your brand appearing in the text at all, and your brand can appear with no citation pointing at you.
Mention
Your brand name in the answer text. It tells you that you exist to the model. It does not tell you which page put you there or whether the buyer would pick you.
Recommendation
Claude putting you forward as the answer rather than listing you among options. This is what Answer Radar scores against, because it is the outcome that correlates with a buyer choosing you.
Query fan-out
The searches Claude runs by itself before answering. One buyer question routinely becomes several searches, and those searches, not the original prompt, decide which pages get read.
What it records, and what nobody can see
A practitioner in r/GEO_optimization who ran identical brand queries through all four engines concluded that the ranking signals are not shared: the same question returned four different shortlists. Everything below is recorded per engine, per run, so that disagreement is a table you can read rather than a rumour.
Recorded on every run
- The full answer text, stored per run, so a change in what Claude says is a diff you can read, not a score that moved.
- Every URL Claude cited, with its domain and its position in the answer, and whether it belongs to you, to a competitor you track, or to a third party.
- The searches Claude issued on its own before answering, which are rarely the words your buyer typed.
- Each brand named in the answer, in order, and whether it was recommended or only listed. Being named eighth in a list is a mention; being the answer is a recommendation, and the two are scored separately.
Not knowable, by us or by anyone
- How many people asked Claude that question. Anthropic publishes no prompt volume. Any tool quoting one is estimating.
- Whether a Claude answer sent you a visit. Assistants pass little or no referrer, so traffic attribution from an answer is inference, and we do not report it as measurement.
- Why Claude chose a source. We record what it searched and what it cited. The reason is a hypothesis, and the page marks it as one.
- That your fix caused the change. Re-measurement reports the observed delta, labelled as observed.
Frequently asked questions
What is a Claude visibility tracker?+
A Claude visibility tracker records, for each question a buyer might ask, whether Claude names your brand, whether it recommends you or only lists you, and which web sources it cites while answering. Claude searched the web in 85.1% of the completed answers in our runs and cited a source in every answer it searched, so its citation list is a fair record of what it read. Answer Radar stores the answer text, every cited URL with its owner and position, and the searches Claude ran, and measures the same prompts on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini so the four engines are comparable.
How do I get my brand recommended by Claude?+
By appearing on the third-party pages Claude reads for your category, because it rarely reads yours. In 26 customer-project answers, 7 of 92 citations pointed at the customer's own domain and the rest at editorial and directory pages such as crm.org (15.4%), superbcrew.com (15.4%) and sybill.ai (15.4%). A thread in r/SEO asking exactly this question drew fifty replies and one consistent answer: be described accurately on the pages the engine already trusts. The tracker tells you which pages those are for your prompts.
Does Claude recommend different brands than ChatGPT?+
Often, yes. A practitioner in r/GEO_optimization ran the same brand queries through ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini and got four different top-three lists in most verticals, with one widely used SMB tool recommended by Claude alone. Our customer runs show the same divergence in the citation layer: Claude drew on 54 domains in 26 answers with no overlap in the top five with ChatGPT's. Tracking one engine and assuming the rest is the most common mistake in this category.
Does Claude cite Reddit?+
Not in our data. Across 92 citations in customer-project Claude answers, 0 were Reddit pages, against 20% of Perplexity answers citing one. Claude leaned on niche editorial sites and vendor comparison pages instead. If your visibility strategy is Reddit-first, Perplexity is where it will show; Claude will need the editorial and directory layer.
How often does Claude search before answering?+
In 85.1% of 67 completed answers, citing 3.93 sources on average. That puts it between ChatGPT (74.5%) and Gemini (93.5%), and unlike Gemini it disclosed a source every time it searched. When Claude does not search, it answers from training, and the answer will not move until the model does.
Can Claude itself run this tracker?+
Yes. Every Answer Radar capability is an MCP tool, so a Claude workspace connected to Linkeddit can start an audit, read the gaps, draft a fix and check the re-measurement without opening the web app. That makes Claude the one engine you can measure from inside the engine. The connector runs against your own account and entitlements; the setup is one URL.
What does Claude tracking cost with Linkeddit?+
It is part of Answer Radar, included with the Compete plan at $99 a month, with no per-engine or per-citation charge. Runs draw on a monthly credit allowance shown in the app, and the same plan carries the weekly competitor brief, demand intelligence and the MCP connector.
