Answer Radar / Citation tracking

See which sources AI answers cite, and whether any of them name you

AI citation tracking records the pages an answer engine actually read before it recommended someone. Answer Radar captures every cited source across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude, shows which ones support you and which support a rival, and names what the citing pages had that yours did not.

Track the sources, not just the mentions

A visibility score tells you that you lost. The sources tell you where the answer came from, which is the only part you can do anything about.

Every URL the answer leaned on

Each time a question runs, Answer Radar records not only who got recommended but every source the answer cited, per engine. The cited pages are fetched and stored, so a claim about your visibility can always be traced back to the page that caused it.

  • Every cited URL captured per engine, per run
  • Cited pages stored as evidence, not just linked
  • See at a glance which of them mention you at all

The searches the engine ran on its own

Before an engine answers it usually searches, and what it searches is rarely what your buyer typed. Answer Radar records that fan-out per run, which is the difference between guessing why a source was cited and knowing the query that surfaced it.

  • The web searches each engine issued while answering
  • Per engine and per run, so you can compare them
  • Nothing a keyword rank tracker can show you

What the citing pages had that yours did not

Answer Radar scores your own pages against what the engines' answers actually contained, keeps only the requirements two or more engines independently agreed on, and names the ones your page misses. It names them and stops there, because writing the page is your call.

  • Requirements two or more engines agreed on, not one model's opinion
  • Per page coverage, with the misses named
  • Re-measured after you publish, with the delta reported honestly

Citation, mention, recommendation

Three things this category routinely uses interchangeably, which is why so many visibility numbers are not comparable.

Citation

A source an answer engine references while composing an answer, usually a link shown beside or beneath the response. It is not the same as a mention: a page can be cited without your brand appearing in the answer at all.

Mention

Your brand name appearing in the answer text. Useful, but it does not tell you which page put it there, which is why mention-only tracking leaves you with nothing to act on.

Recommendation

The engine actually putting you forward as the answer, rather than listing you among others. This is the one that correlates with a buyer choosing you, and it is the level Answer Radar scores against.

Query fan-out

The searches an engine runs by itself before answering. One buyer question routinely becomes several searches, and those searches decide which sources get read.

What it can see, and what it cannot

The second list matters more than the first when you are choosing a tool, and almost nobody in this category publishes one.

Directly observed

  • Every URL cited in an answer we ran, recorded per engine and per run, with the page fetched and stored so the evidence outlives the answer.
  • The searches an engine issued on its own before answering, which is usually not what your buyer typed.
  • Which competitors were named alongside each citation, so a source can be attributed rather than just counted.
  • How all of it changed since the last run, on questions you approved rather than a sample someone else chose.

Not knowable, by us or anyone

  • How often real users asked that question. No engine publishes prompt volume, and anyone quoting one for a private assistant is estimating.
  • Whether a citation sent you a visit. Assistants pass little or no referrer, so attribution claims in this category deserve suspicion.
  • Why an engine chose a source. We record what it cited and what it searched, and treat the reason as a hypothesis rather than a finding.
  • That your change caused a change. A re-measurement reports the observed delta and labels it as such, never as proof.

Frequently asked questions

What is AI citation tracking?+

AI citation tracking is the practice of recording which sources an AI answer engine references when it answers a question, and whether those sources support you or a competitor. It differs from brand mention tracking in what it measures: a mention tells you that you appeared, while a citation tells you which page the engine actually read. Answer Radar records every cited URL per engine per run, stores the cited page, and connects it to whether the answer recommended you, merely mentioned you, or left you out entirely.

How is a citation different from a mention?+

A mention is your brand name appearing in the answer text. A citation is a source the engine referenced to compose that answer. The two often do not overlap: a review-site page can be cited heavily while never naming you, and you can be mentioned in an answer whose citations are all competitor-owned. Tracking mentions alone tells you your score changed. Tracking citations tells you which page to go and change.

Can you track citations across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude?+

Yes, all four are measured from one project so the results are comparable across engines rather than being four separate tools with four definitions of visibility. Each run records the answer text, the sources cited, and the searches the engine issued on its own before answering, per engine.

Can a citation tracker tell me how much traffic AI answers sent me?+

Not reliably, and you should be careful with any tool that says otherwise. AI assistants pass little or no referrer information, so click attribution from an answer to a visit is mostly inference. Answer Radar measures visibility and citation, which are directly observable, and reports change over time rather than claiming a traffic number it cannot see.

How often are citations re-checked?+

On the cadence you set per project, and on demand whenever you want a run. Answers are not stable, so a single snapshot is close to worthless: the same question asked twice can return different sources. Tracking value comes from a series, which is why every run is stored with its evidence rather than overwriting the last number.

What does AI citation tracking cost with Linkeddit?+

It is part of Answer Radar, included with the Compete plan at $99 a month, with no separate charge per tracked citation. That plan also carries the weekly competitor intelligence brief and demand intelligence.
