Shopify store not showing in ChatGPT: how to find the cause and fix it

A Shopify store that does not show in ChatGPT has either an eligibility problem or a product-data problem, and each needs a different fix. Check the Agentic channel and Shopify Catalog rules first. Then use Linkeddit to list the buying questions where an engine names a competitor instead of you, and let Claude read and edit the matching products through the Shopify connector.

Connect both

Your AI client sits in the middle. Linkeddit supplies the data; the other connector makes the change.

Linkeddit connector

Add https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp as a connector and sign in. Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http linkeddit https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp.

Setup guide

Shopify connector

  1. Install the Shopify connector from Claude and sign in to the store you own on a desktop browser.
  2. Approve the data access you are comfortable with. Read-only is enough for the diagnosis.
  3. Add the Linkeddit connector at https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp.

The prompt

Paste into Claude

Use the Linkeddit connector and the Shopify connector. 1) With Linkeddit, list my open Answer Radar gaps, then open the top three in full and tell me which domains the engines cited instead of mine. 2) For the cited pages that are not mine, fetch them with answer_sources_fetch so I can see what they state that my product pages do not. 3) With Shopify, use get-shop-info and then search_products and get-product to read the matching products. Tell me which product facts are missing: type, intended use, material, fit, sizes, shipping and returns. 4) Do not edit anything yet. List the checks I must do myself in my Shopify admin: the Agentic sales channel, Shopify Catalog access and my robots.txt. 5) Then propose edits for at most three products as before and after, and wait for my approval before calling update-product.

Step by step

  1. Step 1

Rule out eligibility in your Shopify admin

Open Sales channels, then Agentic, and check the ChatGPT settings and that Shopify Catalog access is still on. Confirm the store sells to customers in the United States, is not in private mode, and that each product is listed with a title, at least one image and a price above zero.

  2. Step 2

    Connect both connectors to Claude

Add the Shopify connector and the Linkeddit connector (https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp) in Claude or Claude Code. Start with read-only access to the store so that Claude can diagnose and cannot change anything.

  3. Step 3

List the questions where you are skipped

Ask Claude to call answer_gaps_get for your project, then open the top gaps in full. Each one lists what the engines said, which domains they cited and what was missing. These are the buying questions to fix first.

  4. Step 4

Read the pages the engines cited

Have Claude fetch the cited competitor pages with answer_sources_fetch and compare them with your product pages read through get-product. The difference is a list of facts the other page states and yours does not.

  5. Step 5

    Approve small edits, then re-measure

Approve changes to a few products at a time. Claude applies them with update-product only after you say so. Then re-run the same questions in Linkeddit and compare across repeated runs, not one answer.

What Linkeddit returned

Run live on 2026-10-29 with answer_gaps_get. Read-only run on Linkeddit's test project (an analytics site, not a store), so the question is not a shopping one. It shows what one gap record gives Claude: the observed facts and the domains the engines cited instead of the brand.

Why would a Shopify store be missing from ChatGPT?

Paz.ai splits the problem in two. Can the channel receive the product at all, and does the product information explain why it fits this shopper's request? An eligibility problem is not solved by adding keywords to a title, and a vague description is not fixed by a channel setting.

The eligibility list is short and checkable. Shopify says a store selling through ChatGPT must sell to customers in the United States, though the business can be based elsewhere. Catalog needs a title, at least one image, a price above zero and an identifiable product URL. The store must be on the Starter plan or higher and not in private mode, and unlisted products are not eligible. B2B-only products are not supported, and products that OpenAI's commerce policies prohibit do not display in ChatGPT product discovery. If a product fails one of these rules, no rewrite of its description will change the result.

What should I check first?

Start in your Shopify admin, because the connector cannot change store settings such as your plan, payments, taxes or domains. Open Sales channels, then Agentic, and confirm that Catalog access was not removed. Paz.ai notes that Shopify has no separate ChatGPT checkout switch, because ChatGPT shoppers buy through your online store checkout.

Then check crawler access. OpenAI separates OAI-SearchBot, used for search, from GPTBot, used for model training, and a site can allow one and block the other. WRKNG Digital says half the invisible stores it audits quietly block the bots they want to reach, so read your robots.txt yourself. Shopify also notes that removing Catalog access can still leave products discoverable through crawling.

Claude can help with the diagnosis, within limits. Shopify says a connected tool can read data but not change it unless you approve write access, and that it acts within the permissions of the staff account it signs in through. So give Claude read access for this step, and do the channel and robots.txt checks yourself.

What do the usual fix lists get wrong?

The pages that rank for this query give a checklist: schema, an llms.txt file, unblocked crawlers, answer blocks, shipping and returns on real pages, weekly tracking. In the Shopify community thread at the top of the results, participants disagreed on llms.txt, with some arguing it is not a recognized standard and that several AI providers do not use it. So treat it as optional, not as the fix.

None of them tells you which questions in your category currently skip you, so you cannot pick the first product to edit. A viewer under a video on this exact problem asked it plainly: whether to prioritize structured product data or helpful FAQ content. The honest answer from the sources is to test one change at a time against a fixed set of questions.

That is the job for Linkeddit. On its test project, three answer samples named the brand zero times and cited the competitor's own domains 12 times. A gap record like that tells Claude which cited pages to read first.

How do I know the fix worked?

Paz.ai suggests a short record for each sampled product: its URL, channel eligibility, the data gap, the change made and the shopper question used to check it. Use one specific product question and one realistic category question, and write down the date, channel, location and exact wording, since a changed prompt is a changed test.

Keep four outcomes apart: eligibility, an observed appearance in one recorded answer, a referral visit, and a sale. One missing answer does not say which field is wrong. Linkeddit repeats the same questions across engines over time, so you judge the change on presence and recommendation rates, not on one reply. WRKNG Digital says live search can surface new pages within days once crawlers can read them, while trained model memory takes months. That is a vendor claim, so measure it yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Shopify store not showing in ChatGPT?+

Usually one of two reasons. Either the store or product fails Shopify's eligibility rules, such as private mode, no US sales, an unlisted product or a missing image, or the product page does not state the facts a shopper asks about. Check eligibility in Sales channels, then Agentic. Then compare your pages with the sources engines cite.

How do I connect my Shopify store to ChatGPT?+

Shopify describes ChatGPT as a discovery channel that eligible stores have active by default. Open Sales channels, then Agentic, to check the settings and Shopify Catalog access. There is no separate checkout switch, because shoppers complete the purchase on your online store. Connecting Claude to manage the store is a different thing: that is the Shopify connector.

Does an llms.txt file get my Shopify store into ChatGPT?+

The sources do not support relying on it. Participants in a Shopify community thread argued that llms.txt is not a recognized standard and that several AI providers do not use it. It costs little to add, but check eligibility, crawler access and the facts on your product pages first, since those have documented requirements.

Should I fix structured product data or FAQ content first?+

Fix eligibility first, because no wording helps a product that Shopify Catalog cannot include. After that, change one thing at a time on a few products and re-run the same buying questions. Linkeddit shows which questions skip you and which pages the engines cite, so the test compares like with like.

What is the best tool to find which questions ChatGPT answers without my store?+

Linkeddit, at $60 a month. Answer Radar asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews your buying questions and lists the ones where a competitor is named instead of you, with the domains the engines cited. Connect it to Claude beside the Shopify connector to read those pages and edit your products.

Can Claude fix my Shopify products for me?+

Partly. The Shopify connector lists get-product and update-product, so Claude can read a product and edit it once you approve write access. Shopify says a connected tool changes items one at a time, so a large batch can stop partway, and it cannot change your plan, payments, taxes or domains. Start with a few products.
