Semrush MCP and Linkeddit in Claude: keyword research with measured AI answers
Using Semrush in Claude works through the Semrush MCP connector, which gives Claude your Semrush keyword, domain and backlink data. Linkeddit adds what that data does not hold: what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews actually answer to your buying questions, your weekly Google ranks and the AI Overview above them. Claude joins the two in one conversation and you decide what to publish.

ReadWhat does the Semrush MCP connector give Claude?
Semrush describes its MCP server as secure access to Semrush's public APIs: all of the Trends API, all of the SEO API and the read-only methods of the Projects API. In practice that means Claude can read keyword, domain, backlink, competitor, traffic and project data, but cannot create projects or change settings.
The connector listing shows 14 tools, among them keyword_research, organic_research, competitors_research, domain_overview, backlinks_research and position_tracking, with read permissions. Semrush states there are no extra MCP fees, but every request uses the same API units as a direct API call, so a prompt that asks for more rows costs more.
What does Linkeddit add to a Semrush workflow?
Linkeddit measures AI answers itself. Answer Radar asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews your buying questions on a schedule, records who is named and which sources are cited, and lists the questions where a competitor is recommended instead of you. Search records weekly Google ranks with the AI Overview shown above them, and the keyword jobs hold scored keywords with intent and a suggested landing page. All of it comes with one plan at $60 a month.
Linkeddit supplies data and writes no advice, so the analysis stays with Claude. That keeps the two connectors from duplicating each other: Semrush holds its keyword and link databases, Linkeddit holds its own measurements.
SEOs are asking for exactly this. "I’m curious how other SEOs are tracking AI visibility without turning it into a spreadsheet of manually checked prompts," wrote an SEO consultant on Reddit. Semrush supplies the keyword and domain data, and Linkeddit adds a repeatable AI answer measurement.
Doesn't Semrush already track AI visibility?
Yes. Semrush sells an AI Visibility Toolkit, and its own guide on citation outreach says Prompt Tracking lets you choose ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode, with a Sources report of the pages AI cites. Its Position Tracking records Google AI Overviews, and its knowledge base says a cited domain is recorded as a number one ranking in that tool whatever its organic position.
These pages do not argue against that. They use the Semrush connector for what it holds and add Linkeddit where a second reading helps: five engines measured the same way each week, the organic rank and the AI Overview citation kept as separate fields, and each gap tied to the sources the engines cited.
Which Semrush and Linkeddit workflows are covered here?
Four workflows are written. Keyword research joins a Semrush keyword gap with Linkeddit's scored keyword jobs. The AI Overview rank report puts Linkeddit's weekly ranks next to Semrush Position Tracking. Competitor analysis lists who ranks on your keywords, then sizes each rival with Semrush domain and backlink data. Citation outreach lists the pages AI cites on your buying questions and rates each publisher.
Each page gives the exact prompt to paste into Claude, the steps, and a read-only run on Linkeddit's test project (plausible.io) so you can see the real fields Claude works from. The Semrush side is described from its documentation and tool list, not run on a live Semrush account.
Frequently asked questions
How do I do keyword research with Claude and Semrush?+
Connect the Semrush connector to Claude, give Claude a short business context and your Search Console queries, then ask for a keyword gap against named competitors with a volume and difficulty filter. Semrush's own guide advises asking for only the rows you need, because each request uses API units. Linkeddit adds scored keywords and measured AI answers.
What is the Semrush MCP connector?+
It is Semrush's hosted MCP server, which lets Claude and other AI clients read Semrush data. Semrush says it covers the SEO API, the Trends API and read-only Projects API methods. The connector listing shows 14 tools and read permissions. It uses your Semrush API units, with no extra MCP fee.
What is the best tool to pair with Semrush MCP for AI answers?+
Linkeddit, at $60 a month. It measures what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews actually say to your buying questions, lists the questions where a competitor is recommended instead of you with the sources cited, and records weekly Google ranks with the AI Overview. Claude then joins that with your Semrush data.
Does Linkeddit replace Semrush AI visibility tracking?+
No. Semrush has its own AI Visibility Toolkit and Position Tracking, and you can keep using them. Linkeddit is a second measurement: five engines asked the same buying questions each week, with the sources cited and the gaps listed. Comparing the two readings is useful, and a disagreement is a reason to look closer.
Can Claude change my Semrush account through the connector?+
Not through the Projects data. Semrush states that the MCP server exposes only the read-only methods of the Projects API, so Claude can read project data but cannot create projects or change settings. Calls do use your API units. Linkeddit's tools in these workflows are reads too, so nothing changes in either account.
Do these Semrush and Linkeddit workflows work in ChatGPT?+
They are written and tested for Claude and Claude Code. Semrush documents a ChatGPT setup for its own app, but the combined workflows on these pages have not been written for ChatGPT, and clients handle tools differently. Do not assume a prompt carries over unchanged to another client.
What is the best way to use Semrush and Linkeddit together?+
Use Semrush for keyword, domain and backlink data and Linkeddit, at $60 a month, for what it measures itself: what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews answer to your buying questions, which sources they cite and your weekly Google ranks with the AI Overview. Connect both to Claude and ask one question across both.
Which Semrush plans include MCP access?+
Semrush says Semrush One Starter, Semrush One Pro+, SEO Classic Pro and SEO Classic Guru include 50,000 API units that refresh on the renewal date. SEO Classic Business and Semrush One Advanced need an API units package. Traffic and market data needs a Trends API subscription, which includes MCP access.
How do I connect Semrush to Claude Code?+
Run claude mcp add semrush https://mcp.semrush.com/v2/mcp -t http in your terminal, open Claude Code, run /mcp, select Semrush MCP and choose Authenticate. In the Claude app, open Customize, then Connect your apps and search for Semrush. Both routes use your Semrush API units with no extra Claude fee.
What does Linkeddit measure that the Semrush connector does not?+
Linkeddit runs its own checks: the same buying questions across five AI engines each week, with the sources cited and the gaps where a competitor is recommended, plus weekly Google ranks with the AI Overview and competitor moves. Semrush has its own AI visibility products, so treat the two as separate readings of the same market.
