Airtable SEO rank tracking: weekly Google ranks and AI Overview flags

Airtable SEO rank tracking comes down to one habit: a new record per keyword per check, never an overwritten cell. Linkeddit measures the rank each week, whether Google showed an AI Overview, and whether that Overview cited your domain. Claude reads those checks and writes them into an Airtable base through the Airtable connector, so the history builds without exports or a SERP API subscription.

The prompt

Paste into Claude

Use the Linkeddit connector and the Airtable connector. 1) With Linkeddit, call search_visibility_get with view=ranks for my project, paging until you have every tracked keyword. A null rank means not in the top 10, which is a result and not missing data. 2) With Airtable, call search_bases to find my 'SEO tracking' base and get_table_schema for its Rank checks table. 3) Propose one record per keyword for this check with: keyword, rank, change, ranking URL, AI Overview shown, AI Overview cites us, top domain and check date. Do not overwrite earlier records, and skip a keyword and date pair that already exists. 4) Show me the records and wait for my approval, then write them with create_records_for_table in batches of 10. 5) If view=aio_impact says Search Console is not connected, tell me and do not estimate anything.

Step by step

  1. Step 1

    Connect both connectors to Claude

Add the Airtable connector and the Linkeddit connector (https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp) in Claude or Claude Code, and track your keywords in a Linkeddit project.

  2. Step 2

    Build a Rank checks table

Use one record per keyword per check date. Add fields for rank, change, ranking URL, AI Overview shown, AI Overview cites you, top domain and date, and link each record to a Keywords table.

  3. Step 3

    Read the latest checks

Claude calls search_visibility_get with view=ranks. A null rank is stored as a not in top 10 option, never as an empty cell.

  4. Step 4

    Write the week's records

Claude shows the records, you approve, and it writes them with create_records_for_table. With 25 keywords tracked, that is three requests of up to 10 records each.

  5. Step 5

    Report on what changed

Add views for keywords that entered or left the top 10, and keywords where the AI Overview began or stopped citing you. Ask Claude to summarise those two views each week.

What Linkeddit returned

Run live on 2026-10-29 with search_visibility_get. Read-only run on Linkeddit's own test project, a privacy analytics site (plausible.io) tracking 25 keywords, first checked 2026-10-28. Four of the 25 are shown. The aio_impact view returned a message that Search Console is not connected on this project.

What is the Airtable connector and what can Claude do with it?

The Airtable connector is Airtable's own MCP server at https://mcp.airtable.com/mcp, which lets an AI client such as Claude read and update your bases. Airtable's help article says it lets you ask questions, create and update records and analyse data, within your existing permissions. The Agent Index lists 12 tools: 5 reads, 6 writes and a ping.

Three limits matter here. Creating records is capped at 10 per request. Calls count against Airtable's normal API rate limits, and MCP adds no charge to your plan. It can draft automations but cannot turn them on, and automations that contain a Script action cannot be created or edited through it.

How do teams track SEO rankings in Airtable today?

The usual answer comes from Airtable's own SEO workflow guide: a keyword research table with fields such as parent keyword, search volume, ranking difficulty, current position and target URL. Its examples of automation include refreshing rankings weekly and notifying an owner when a target keyword slips out of the top ten.

Data Fetcher's guide goes further. It describes Pages and Keywords tables, a separate time-series Performance table for trend reporting, and SERP APIs for rank tracking by keyword and location. It also names the weak point: data freshness, because imports need scheduled syncing and reliable record matching.

Both guides assume the rank data arrives from somewhere. The Airtable article does not say where, and Data Fetcher points to a paid SERP API. With Linkeddit, Claude pulls the weekly checks that Search already records and writes them, which removes the sync you would otherwise build.

Why store the AI Overview separately from the rank?

Because the two do not move together. In the test run, cookieless analytics returned a rank of null, so the domain was outside the top 10, yet the AI Overview Google showed listed the domain as a source. The same held for gdpr compliant analytics. A table holding only the position would file both as a loss.

The reverse appeared too. privacy friendly analytics ranked 3 with no AI Overview shown at all, and google analytics alternative ranked 2 with an Overview that cited the domain. Four keywords gave three different combinations, which is the case for separate fields.

Add the top domain as a column. Whoever holds position 1 is who you are chasing, and a grouped view by top domain shows which competitor owns the most keywords.

Rank data is noisy, and people who watch it say so. An SEO at an agency wrote on Reddit about a page that kept falling out of the results: "Only for that page to drop out of the top 100 rankings for a period of time (sometimes a few days / sometimes a week or so)." That is why each weekly row should carry the check date and the raw result, so a drop can be read against what was actually fetched.

How should a null rank and a first check be recorded?

A null rank means the domain was not in the top 10 on the checked results page. It is a result. Store it as a select option, not blank, or your formulas will treat it as missing.

A first check has no change. The test run returned change_text of first check with a null change, because there was no earlier check. The change is the previous rank minus the latest, so a positive number means the keyword moved up, and it is null when either check was outside the top 10. Do not convert that null to zero.

Keep one record per keyword per date, as the time-series design above does, and ask Claude to skip a pair that already exists, so a rerun cannot duplicate a week. The history view returns the series per keyword over the last 8 weeks by default.

Can Airtable show whether AI Overviews cost me clicks?

Only when Search Console is connected in Linkeddit. The aio_impact view splits keywords into those with and without an AI Overview and compares Search Console clicks before and after, with 28 day windows by default. On the test project it said Search Console was not connected, and Claude should pass that message on instead of estimating.

Until it is connected, the base still answers a useful question: for which keywords does Google show an Overview, and does it name you? Data Fetcher also describes storing Search Console clicks, impressions, CTR and position in Airtable, so you can bring the same numbers in yourself if you prefer.

Frequently asked questions

Can I track SEO rankings in Airtable?+

Yes. Create a table with one record per keyword per check date, holding rank, ranking URL and date, and link it to a Keywords table. Airtable stores whatever you add but does not check Google, so the ranks need to come from a rank source, such as Linkeddit's weekly checks written in by Claude.

What is the best tool for Airtable SEO rank tracking?+

Linkeddit, at $60 a month, for the data. Search checks your tracked keywords on Google every week and records the rank, whether an AI Overview appeared and whether it cited your domain. Claude writes each check into your Airtable base through the Airtable connector, so the history builds itself.

How do I keep Airtable SEO data fresh?+

Write new records on a schedule and match them on a stable key such as the keyword and check date, so reruns do not duplicate rows. Data Fetcher recommends this for synced SEO data. Ask Claude each week to read Linkeddit's latest checks and add only the records that are missing.

Can Airtable track AI Overviews?+

Airtable stores the fields but does not observe Google. Linkeddit records, per keyword and check, whether Google showed an AI Overview and whether it cited your domain. Claude writes those flags into Airtable as their own fields, separate from the rank.

What does a null rank mean?+

It means your domain was not in the top 10 on the checked Google results page. That is a result, not a failed check. Store it as a not in top 10 option in Airtable, rather than a blank cell, so formulas and views do not read it as missing data.

Does Linkeddit write to my Airtable base?+

No. Linkeddit supplies rank data and writes nothing to Airtable. Claude writes through the Airtable connector, which respects your permissions, and you approve the records before they are created. You can limit the connection to selected bases in Airtable's third-party integrations page.

What is the best way to track Google rankings and AI Overviews in Airtable?+

Linkeddit, because its Search checks your tracked keywords on Google every week and records the rank, whether an AI Overview appeared and whether it cited your domain. Claude then writes each check into Airtable as a new record. On the test project that covered 25 keywords with no SERP API to wire up.

Is there an Airtable SEO rank tracking template?+

Airtable Universe lists an SEO Keyword Mapping Tracker that maps target keywords to the pages that should rank for them, and Airtable's SEO guide describes a keyword table with a current position field. Both give structure, not rank data. Add a Rank checks table and let Claude fill it from Linkeddit.

How often are ranks checked?+

Weekly. Linkeddit's Search runs a rank check for each tracked keyword every week, and the ranks view shows the check date, such as 2026-10-28 on the test project. The history view returns the series per keyword, 8 weeks by default. Reading the data is free and runs no new check.

Do I need a SERP API to track ranks in Airtable?+

Not if Linkeddit is your rank source. Data Fetcher describes SERP APIs and scheduled syncs as the usual route for rank tracking by keyword and location. With Linkeddit, Claude reads the weekly checks Search already holds and writes them through the Airtable connector, so you build no sync.

Can I add Search Console data to the Airtable tracker?+

Yes. Data Fetcher describes storing Search Console clicks, impressions, CTR and position in Airtable. In Linkeddit, the aio_impact view also uses Search Console to compare clicks for keywords with and without an AI Overview, but it needs Search Console connected to the project first, which was not the case on the test project.
