Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit Review (2026): $99 a Domain, 25 Prompts, and Who It Fits

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is the AI visibility product most SEO teams will see first, because it is a $99 line inside a suite they already pay for. Almost every review of it is written by a competitor or an affiliate. This one reads Semrush's two pricing pages and four Knowledge Base articles as they rendered on the day, separates the 317-million-prompt index from the 25-prompt tracker, and reads what Semrush customers say on G2 and what practitioners say on Reddit.

Key takeaways

  • Verified 4 September 2026: $99 a month per domain, billed annually on the pricing page, for 25 tracked prompts, one Brand Performance domain, 300 AI Analysis reports a day and an AI crawler audit on 100 pages. 50 more prompts cost $60 a month, another domain $99, another seat from $45. Semrush One bundles it: Starter $199 with 50 prompts, Pro+ $299 with 100, Advanced $549 with 200.
  • It is two data layers. The AI Analysis reports run on a 317-million-prompt index built from AI search clickstream data and Google's AI Overviews keyword set across 117 regional databases. Prompt Tracking runs your own prompts daily through Position Tracking. The first is unique to Semrush and Ahrefs; the second is what every dedicated tracker sells.
  • No Claude on any tier. Daily Prompt Tracking covers ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Gemini; Perplexity appears only in the weekly Brand Performance reports. Desktop only. Estimated Traffic is not available for AI engines.
  • Semrush's own Knowledge Base says no platform can provide exact numbers on AI visibility and that its metrics are reliable directional signals. That is the most honest disclosure in the category, and it is also the limit of what the $99 buys.
  • G2 rates Semrush 4.4 on 4,035 reviews as a suite, now listed as an Adobe company. The AI-specific dislikes are seat cost, AI features sold separately from the main platform, and AI features that are very restricted. Reddit's complaint is sharper: the score is based on Semrush's own generated prompts, and the prompt databases skew B2C.
  • Semrush MCP is read-only and lists keyword, traffic, competitive and backlink data, not AI visibility. Kompyte, the competitive intelligence tool Semrush owns, sits in the same Knowledge Base.
  • It measures and shows cited pages with per-page recommendations. It does not draft the fix against the cited evidence or re-measure to show the fix moved.

01What the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is: six reports on two data layers

The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit is a $99 add-on to Semrush, or a bundled component of the Semrush One plans, that shows how brands appear in AI-generated answers. Knowledge Base article 1493, read on 4 September 2026, lists six reports: Visibility Overview, Competitor Research, Prompt Research, Brand Performance, Prompt Tracking and an AI Search Site Audit. The useful way to understand them is by the data underneath, because there are two very different sources.

The prompt database powers Visibility Overview, Competitor Research and Prompt Research. Article 1607 puts it at over 317 million prompts and responses on ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, across 117 regional databases, updated daily on a rolling basis, with responses “captured from real requests and not via any APIs of LLMs”. The prompts come from AI search clickstream data and Google’s keyword dataset for AI Overviews, grouped into topics. This is the layer that lets you type any brand and see a score, and it is the closest thing in the category to Ahrefs Brand Radar’s index.

Prompt Tracking is the other layer. Article 1503 describes it as Position Tracking pointed at AI engines: you add the prompts you care about, choose ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode or Gemini, a location and a language, and Semrush queries them daily, records mentions, positions and the cited sources, and stores an answer snapshot you can open. This is the product every dedicated AI visibility tracker sells, and it is capped at 25 prompts on the $99 plan.

Brand Performance sits between them: a separate weekly database of branded and non-branded queries that reference your domain, run through Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, and analysed for sentiment, share of voice and the attributes engines attach to you. It is the only report where Perplexity appears.

One more fact worth having before the pricing. The G2 listing we fetched on 4 September 2026 reads “Semrush By Adobe” and describes “Semrush, an Adobe Company”. Whatever you buy here, you are buying it from Adobe.

02Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit pricing in September 2026, read on the day

We fetched semrush.com/pricing/ai/, semrush.com/pricing/ and Knowledge Base article 1493 on 4 September 2026 through the free fetcher. Two pages describe the same $99: the pricing page says “per domain, billed annually”, the Knowledge Base says “$99 per month” and explains that adding it to an existing annual plan is prorated to your renewal date. Read both before you commit.

Two things the table hides. The toolkit bought alone has no free trial; article 1493 says so in its own FAQ, while Semrush One carries a seven-day trial. And in a corporate account the toolkit cannot be shared through pooled limits: each teammate who wants it needs their own $99 licence, on top of the $45 seat. A three-person team on the standalone toolkit is $297 for the toolkit plus seats before a second domain.

03Prompts, priced out

Semrush meters Prompt Tracking in prompts, not checks, and the allowance is per account: 25 on the standalone toolkit, 50, 100 and 200 on the three Semrush One plans, plus $60 for every 50 more. Article 1503 describes a campaign as one engine, one location and one language, with the tracked engine chosen when you set it up. Whether a prompt tracked on ChatGPT, AI Mode and Gemini consumes one prompt or three is not stated on any page we read. EchoWi’s arithmetic assumes 25 prompts on four engines is 100 pairs for $99; we could not confirm that the allowance works that way, so ask before you assume it.

On prompts per dollar the toolkit sits mid-table: Peec AI’s $80 annual plan carries 50 prompts on three models, Ahrefs sells 2,500 checks for $50, Otterly starts at $29 for 15. What the toolkit sells at $99 that none of those do is the index, the Google-versus-AI comparison in one campaign, and the crawler audit, inside the suite you already open.

04What the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit does well

The index, with real demand behind it. The 317-million-prompt database is derived from AI search clickstream data and Google’s AI Overviews keyword set, which means Prompt Research can show topic-level AI volume, difficulty and intent the way Keyword Magic does for Google. Semrush is careful about what that volume is: article 1607 calls it a topic-level estimate combining third-party data on real AI interactions with its own models. It is still the only demand estimate in the category besides Ahrefs’ that starts from measured behaviour rather than a vendor’s guess.

Google and AI side by side. Prompt Tracking is built on Position Tracking, so the same campaign can hold Google, Bing or Baidu next to ChatGPT Search, AI Mode or Gemini. The 64-upvote thread in r/DigitalMarketing is the use case: a marketer ranked top ten on Google for 50 queries, was cited in six AI answers, rewrote pages with specific stats and standalone sentences, and went to 19 of 50 in a few weeks, tracking it in Semrush after two weeks of doing it by hand. Nothing else puts that comparison in one table.

The Sources report. Article 1503 describes every cited domain and URL for your tracked prompts, categorised as yours, competitor, social, knowledge base or other, with a “Get mentions” panel per cited page that suggests an action tailored to the source type, for example structuring forum insights into FAQs when the source is a thread. That is further than a score, and closer to the work than most trackers get.

An AI crawler audit. Site Audit checks your site against eight AI crawlers, including OAI-SearchBot, and flags blocked bots, missing llms.txt and non-descriptive anchors as AI Search Health issues. GetMint, a competitor, calls it “ahead of the curve”, and a FounderPass review that is otherwise lukewarm says the audit surfaced missing FAQ structured data and internal linking issues on its own site.

Unlinked mentions count. The AI Visibility Score counts both linked citations and bare brand mentions. Honeyb, another competitor, gives Semrush credit for that choice because a large share of AI exposure is a name with no link attached, and a link-only tracker would undercount you.

The free checker. Semrush publishes a free AI Visibility Checker that reads a brand’s presence in AI answers with no account and no demo call. EchoWi calls it the cheapest honest starting point in the category, and we agree.

Customers like the perception reports. A G2 reviewer running a small print business wrote that the Perception and Narrative Drivers reports let them create “really useful new FAQs and content that LLMs can pick up on”; another called the Visibility Overview “a welcome addition to the platform”.

05Where the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit falls short

No Claude, and Perplexity only weekly. Prompt Tracking covers ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Gemini. Perplexity appears in the weekly Brand Performance reports and the Base plan’s mention list, not in daily tracking. Claude is on no page we read. In our own runs Claude recommends a brand in a different pattern from the other three engines, and a tracker that cannot see it cannot tell you that.

25 prompts is a sample. Honeyb’s framing is the right one: if the brand named first changes in 28 to 44 percent of identical reruns, 25 prompts refreshed daily is a directional gauge with a wide error bar, and Semrush sells more prompts precisely because more is better. Widening the sample costs $60 per 50, or a Semrush One plan.

Per domain, per seat, no shared limits. Brand Performance is $99 per extra domain, each teammate needs a $99 licence plus a $45 seat, and the toolkit cannot be pooled in a corporate account. A G2 reviewer’s dislike: “we wish it were easier and less costly to add team members”. Another: “they have their AEO abilities and AI searches separate from their main platform, but it goes back to pricing”.

Desktop only, no traffic. Article 1503’s limits section: only desktop searches are supported for AI engines, Estimated Traffic is not included, and topic volumes are available in 15 countries. GetMint noticed the Estimated Traffic column sitting at zero and called the answer snapshots “a wall of text”.

Recommendations read generic. FounderPass, an affiliate who recommends the toolkit, still writes that its action-plan suggestions “often feel broad and could apply to many businesses”, and that methodology transparency is weak on which prompts were measured and how many. GetMint’s summary is that the toolkit is “read-only”: it tells you that you are losing and offers limited workflows to change it.

B2C skew in the index. A B2B SaaS marketer in r/aeo demoed Semrush, Ahrefs and Similarweb and found the prompt databases “heavily skewed toward B2C (especially e-commerce)”, with vague answers on niche B2B coverage. That is a property of clickstream-derived indexes generally, and it is why the tracker layer exists.

It shows cited pages; it does not draft against them. The Sources report and the Get mentions panel name the page and suggest a category of action. They do not draft the change against what that page actually said, and they do not re-run the prompt to show whether the change moved it.

SEMRush's visibility tracking is based on its own generated prompts. If you reverse engineer the QFO's for those, and rank in Google, your visibility will go up.

06What G2 and Reddit say about the toolkit

The toolkit has no listing of its own. Semrush is rated as a suite: 4.4 out of 5 on 4,035 G2 reviews as fetched on 4 September 2026, with 69 percent five-star and 25 percent four-star. We filtered the listing to reviews mentioning AI visibility and read the like and dislike answers. The likes are about Perception and Narrative Drivers, the Visibility Overview, and having AI Overview tracking next to Position Tracking and Site Audit. The AI-specific dislikes, in reviewers’ words: “less costly to add team members”; a wish for “a monthly report of suggested pages to optimize for SEO and AI visibility”; “paying for some products we don’t ever use” because the AEO tools are sold separately; and one flat “AI features very restricted, considering the current SEO ecosystem”. GetMint adds that Trustpilot tells a different story at 2.4 on 1,095 reviews, mostly about cancellation and billing rather than the software; we did not fetch Trustpilot ourselves.

Reddit is where the accuracy argument happens. Three threads asked the same question in three subreddits within eight months.

“Just a simulation.” In r/seogrowth, a marketer who runs Semrush, Ahrefs and Similarweb wrote that “they all have different data” and that “everyone asks AI chatbots different questions, so this is just a simulation of queries and responses”; they built their own automation to control the prompts. A second reply: “SEMrush is still very keyword-driven at its core, so when it tries to model AI interactions, the data naturally gets a bit shaky.”

“Not 100% convinced.” In r/DigitalMarketing, a team using Semrush to report AI citations to stakeholders said they were “not 100% convinced by the accuracy of their AI tracking data” and asked for alternatives. The replies recommended prompt-running trackers and called the Semrush number “more of a proxy than a direct measurement”.

“Its own generated prompts.” In r/SEO, someone asked how to raise their Semrush AI Visibility Score. The top reply, quoted above, is the whole critique in two sentences. A follow-up: “at the end of the day, they’re just generating and storing prompts”.

And the counter-evidence. The most upvoted Semrush AI thread we found, 64 points in r/DigitalMarketing, is a marketer who used the tracker to prove a rewrite worked, from 6 to 19 of 50 queries. The complaint was not about Semrush; it was that tracking by hand for two weeks first was miserable. That is the product working as sold.

Their prompt databases seem massive but heavily skewed toward B2C (especially e-commerce). They only demo-ed their LLM visibility feature on B2C queries even tho they know I'm in B2B.

07The accuracy question, in Semrush's own words

Semrush answers the accuracy question more directly than any vendor we have reviewed. Article 1607 closes with: “AI search and LLM responses are fast-changing and highly personalized, which means no platform can provide exact numbers on visibility”, and describes its metrics as built to give “reliable directional signals”. Take that at face value. It is true of Semrush, of Ahrefs, of every dedicated tracker, and of us.

What the disclosure also tells you is what the index measures. The prompts are expansions of AI search clickstream and AI Overviews keyword data, deduplicated and simplified into topics; ChatGPT is monitored through “the latest model of ChatGPT in search mode”; the AI Visibility Score is a 0 to 100 blend of topic coverage, how many topics include your brand, and mention consistency, how often you are named within them, benchmarked against competitors Semrush picks for you. The r/SEO reply is a fair reading of that: the score reflects Semrush’s prompt set, so ranking for the Google questions behind that set raises it. That is not the score being wrong. It is the score measuring a corpus that is not your buyers’ questions.

The gap that competitors raise, and that we raise about ourselves too, is sampling. Article 1607 does not say how many times each prompt is run or how often a topic is refreshed beyond “daily on a rolling basis”. EchoWi’s point stands: a number from one run and a number from a hundred look identical in a dashboard. For your own prompts, Prompt Tracking runs daily and stores the answer snapshot, which is the most honest evidence in the toolkit. Open it.

08API and MCP, checked against the Knowledge Base

Semrush has an MCP server, and article 1618, read on 4 September 2026, is specific about it. It is read-only, connects over OAuth or an API key, and is available as an official app in ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, plus Cursor, VS Code and Claude Code. Semrush One Starter and Pro+ and SEO Classic Pro and Guru include 50,000 MCP API units a cycle; Advanced and Business add unit packages of 2 to 20 million. Every query spends units, and the article coaches you to be specific to conserve them.

What it lists as available: keyword data, organic and paid metrics, competitive intelligence, traffic and market data, and domain and backlink analysis. What it does not list: any AI Visibility Toolkit report. The standalone $99 toolkit is not among the plans that include MCP at all. If pulling your AI visibility data into Claude or Cursor is the point, the pages we read do not promise it; ask.

One adjacent fact for buyers who came here from competitive intelligence: Kompyte, the CI platform Semrush acquired in 2022, sits in the same Knowledge Base navigation as the AI Visibility Toolkit. A Semrush customer can, in principle, hold CI and AI visibility under one vendor. Our Kompyte alternatives guide covers what that CI product is today. For comparison, every Linkeddit capability, including the fix draft and the re-measurement, is an MCP tool over one URL on the $99 plan; the connector page lists them.

09What the toolkit measures, and what no tracker can

The two layers measure two things. The index measures how often a brand is named in engine answers to a fixed corpus of clickstream-derived prompts, which makes it comparable across brands and less specific to any one brand’s buyers. Prompt Tracking measures your own prompts on your chosen engines daily, comparable with itself over time and with no other vendor’s, like every tracker. A review that ranks vendors by visibility scores is ranking prompt sets, and Semrush, like Ahrefs, is a vendor whose default prompt set is not yours.

Three things no tracker can see. How many people asked: Semrush’s topic-level AI volume is one of two estimates in the category grounded in measured behaviour, and it is still an estimate, restricted to 15 countries. Whether an answer sent a visit: Estimated Traffic is not available for AI engines in Prompt Tracking, and a referrer is a floor everywhere. Why the engine chose a source: the Sources report names the page; the reason is a hypothesis. We have written up the same limits for our own product in AI citation tracking.

One test we run on every vendor we review: is the vendor’s own domain in the answers about its own category? Across 220 completed answers in our Answer Radar runs, which include prompts about AI visibility tools, semrush.com was cited twice: once by Gemini, once by ChatGPT, the latter pointing at a Semrush news release about its enterprise AI optimization product rather than at the toolkit. For the largest marketing data company in the category, that is the citation layer in one line: engines cite roundups about tools, not the tools.

10Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit vs Linkeddit Answer Radar

We sell a product in this category, so read this as a vendor’s comparison and check both pricing pages. The short version: Semrush has the index, the Google-versus-AI comparison, the crawler audit and the suite, at $99 a domain for 25 prompts on three daily engines without Claude. Answer Radar is your prompts on four engines including Claude at a fixed $99, with MCP on every tool, and it finishes the job the Sources report hands back to you, with weekly competitor intelligence included.

Pick Semrush if you already pay for Semrush and want AI visibility as one more panel beside your rankings, if you need to see any brand’s presence across the market without configuring prompts, if the Google-versus-AI gap in one table is the report you will actually use, or if you want the AI crawler audit and the free checker before spending anything.

Pick Answer Radar if you want your own buyers’ prompts on four engines including Claude at a fixed $99 with no per-domain or per-seat multiplier, the data and the actions reachable from Claude or Cursor over MCP, the measurement to end in a drafted fix built from what the engines actually read and a re-measurement that says whether it moved, and weekly competitor intelligence on the same bill. Our AI visibility tools guide covers the wider field.

11Verdict: is the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit worth it?

For a Semrush customer, yes, and quickly: $99 puts the index, daily tracking, the Sources report and the AI crawler audit in the dashboard you already open, and the free checker lets you look before you pay. For an SEO team whose stakeholders want AI visibility as a line next to rankings, the Google-versus-AI comparison is the report nobody else has in one place, and it is worth the price on its own.

Be careful as a dedicated AI visibility tracker. No Claude on any tier, Perplexity only weekly, 25 prompts at the entry price, a per-domain and per-seat bill, desktop only, no traffic estimate, and Semrush’s own statement that the numbers are directional. Practitioners on Reddit describe the score as a simulation of Semrush’s own prompts, and the index as B2C-skewed, and Semrush’s Knowledge Base does not contradict either. If your job is watching your own buyers’ questions and changing pages in response, dedicated tools do that more directly, including ours.

What we could not verify: whether a prompt on three engines uses one or three of the 25, what the $139 SEO plan’s new AI rows include, the Trustpilot figures GetMint quotes, and whether Semrush MCP will ever carry toolkit data. We have said so where each comes up.

Your own prompts, four engines including Claude, MCP on every tool, the fix drafted and re-measured, for $99

Answer Radar asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude your buyers’ questions, stores every cited page and every fan-out search, ranks the gaps by evidence, drafts the fix from what the engines actually read, and re-measures. It is included with Compete at $99 a month alongside the weekly competitor brief.

12Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit cost?+

As read off semrush.com/pricing/ai/ and Knowledge Base article 1493 on 4 September 2026: $99 a month per domain, billed annually on the pricing page, for 25 tracked prompts, one domain for Brand Performance, 300 AI Analysis reports a day, 1,000 Prompt Research queries a day, AI Search checks on 100 pages and 10 CSV exports a day. Add-ons: 50 more prompts for $60 a month, another Brand Performance domain for $99, another user from $45, reporting at $10 or $20. Semrush One bundles it with the SEO toolkit: Starter $199 a month or $165.17 annual with 50 prompts, Pro+ $299 or $248.17 with 100 prompts, Advanced $549 or $455.67 with 200 prompts. There is no free trial of the toolkit on its own.

Is the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit worth it?+

If your team already lives in Semrush, yes: $99 buys the 317-million-prompt index, daily prompt tracking on ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Gemini, a Sources report with per-page recommendations, and an AI crawler audit, in the dashboard you already open. If you are choosing an AI visibility tool from scratch, weigh three things first: no Claude on any tier, 25 prompts at the entry price with a per-domain and per-seat bill, and Semrush's own statement that its metrics are directional signals rather than exact numbers. Several dedicated tools give you more prompts and more engines for the same money, and none of them give you the Semrush index.

Which AI engines does the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit track?+

It depends on the report. The Base plan page lists mentions from ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity. Knowledge Base article 1607 says the prompt database covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Brand Performance covers Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, and Prompt Tracking covers ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Gemini, with Perplexity absent from daily tracking. Claude does not appear on any page we read. Semrush says it monitors the latest ChatGPT model in search mode.

How accurate is the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit?+

Semrush's own Knowledge Base answers this more honestly than most vendors: AI answers are fast-changing and personalised, so no platform can provide exact numbers, and its metrics are built to give reliable directional signals. The index is built from AI search clickstream data and Google's AI Overviews keyword set, not from your prompts, and the AI Visibility Score is a 0 to 100 blend of topic coverage and mention consistency against automatically chosen competitors. Practitioners in r/SEO put it bluntly: the score is based on Semrush's own generated prompts, so ranking in Google for the questions behind them raises it. For your own buyers' questions, use Prompt Tracking and read the stored answer snapshots.

Does the Semrush MCP include AI visibility data?+

Not on the pages we read. Knowledge Base article 1618, read on 4 September 2026, describes Semrush MCP as read-only access to keyword, organic and paid, competitive, traffic and backlink data, available as an official app in ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, with 50,000 API units on Semrush One Starter and Pro+ and on SEO Classic Pro and Guru. AI visibility reports are not in its data list. If you want AI visibility data inside Claude or Cursor, ask Semrush before you assume the MCP carries it.

Is there a free version of the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit?+

There is a free AI Visibility Checker on semrush.com that gives a one-off read of a brand's presence in AI answers with no account, and Semrush One has a seven-day trial. The toolkit bought on its own has no trial: Knowledge Base article 1493 says a paid subscription is required.

What is the best alternative to the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit?+

For more prompts per dollar on a clean tracker, Peec AI at $80 a month annual for 50 prompts on three models, or Otterly from $29. For the biggest search-derived index, Ahrefs Brand Radar at $199. For your own prompts on four engines including Claude at a fixed $99, every capability callable over MCP, and the fix drafted from the recorded citations and re-measured, with weekly competitor intelligence on the same bill, Linkeddit Answer Radar. Nothing else gives you Semrush's index next to your Google rankings; if that pairing is the point, buy Semrush.
