Get your WordPress site cited by ChatGPT: find the gap, fix the post, re-check

To get a WordPress site cited by ChatGPT, first find the buying questions where an answer names a competitor and not you, then fix only the posts those questions point to. Linkeddit lists the gaps and the sources engines cite. Claude edits the matching posts through the WordPress.com connector, with your approval, and Linkeddit then re-measures the same questions.

The prompt

Paste into Claude

Use the Linkeddit connector and the WordPress.com connector. 1) With Linkeddit, list my open Answer Radar gaps and show the five with the highest intent, then use answer_sources_fetch on the sources the engines cited for the top one so I can see what those pages say that mine does not. 2) With WordPress.com, use the content authoring tool to search my site for the posts that cover that question and read them with posts.get. 3) Propose edits to at most three posts: open with the plain answer, add the facts the cited pages carry, and keep the URL and slug. Show each change as before and after. Do not call posts.update or post-sections.replace until I approve each one. 4) Tell me which questions to re-run in Linkeddit once the edits are live.

Step by step

  1. Step 1

Connect both connectors and pick the access level

Add the WordPress.com connector and the Linkeddit connector (https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp) in Claude or Claude Code. WordPress.com asks you to choose an access level when you sign in. Read only turns off every write tool, which is a fine way to run the first audit.

  2. Step 2

    List the gaps in Linkeddit

Ask Claude to call answer_gaps_get for your project. It returns the buying questions where an engine recommended somebody else or nobody, ranked by intent, evidence and confidence. Open one gap in full to see what the engines said and which sources they cited.

  3. Step 3

Read the sources the engines cited

Claude calls answer_sources_fetch on the cited URLs, so you can see what those pages answer in their first lines and which facts they carry. This step is a fetch of public pages, not a guess about what the engine wants.

  4. Step 4

Read your matching posts in WordPress

With the WordPress.com content authoring tool, Claude searches your content and reads the candidates with posts.get. It can list a post's top-level blocks with post-sections.list, so a fix can target one block and leave the rest alone.

  5. Step 5

    Approve each edit, then re-measure

Claude shows a before and after for each post and waits. Once you approve, it writes with posts.update or post-sections.replace. A few weeks later, run the same questions again in Linkeddit and compare presence and recommendation rates, not one answer.

What Linkeddit returned

Run live on 2026-10-29 with answer_gaps_get. Read-only run on Linkeddit's own test project (an analytics site, not a WordPress site), so the gap itself is about analytics tools. It shows the record Claude would work from. The sources step (answer_sources_fetch) is not shown: it is not a read-only _get call, so it is listed as a step instead of being run.

Why does ChatGPT skip some WordPress sites?

ChatGPT's search side relies on crawlers it runs itself. ThePlusAddons describes three OpenAI bots: OAI-SearchBot builds the search index, ChatGPT-User fetches a page when a question needs live data, and GPTBot crawls for training. You can allow the first two and block GPTBot, so a training opt-out does not have to cost you citations.

Windsor.ai joined 30 days of server logs with 90 days of Search Console data across 238 pages. Claude fetched every page with 1,000 or more Google clicks, but only 19% of pages with 1 to 9 clicks. ChatGPT showed the same pattern at larger volume, 6,415 citation fetches against Claude's 860. Their first finding is that pages that get cited are mostly pages that already rank.

A skipped post therefore has a short list of causes: it is blocked from the search crawlers, it does not rank, or it ranks but does not open with the answer a question needs.

What do the ranking WordPress guides miss?

The pages that rank for this query agree on a checklist: allow AI crawlers in robots.txt, add FAQ and Article schema, generate an llms.txt file, use an SEO plugin such as Rank Math to fill in schema, and write server-rendered, extractable answers. These are sound hygiene items and worth doing once for the whole site.

What none of them gives you is the list of questions where an answer currently names a competitor. Without it, you apply the checklist to every post, including posts that no buyer question points to. Windsor.ai's advice to open with the sentence you want quoted only pays off on the pages that match a question you actually lose.

That is the part Linkeddit supplies. answer_gaps_get returns the open gaps ranked by intent, evidence and confidence, and each gap carries the observations, the cited sources and the actions kept separate. Claude can then choose the three posts worth editing this week.

How do I edit the post without breaking it?

WordPress.com's tools reference lists posts.get, posts.update and block-level operations. post-sections.list returns a post's top-level blocks with an index and a block hash, and post-sections.replace swaps one block while leaving the rest untouched. A change to the opening block, which is the one a quotable answer lives in, does not need a rewrite of the post.

Every write goes through a confirmation step: the vendor says the agent must describe what it plans to do, ask for explicit approval and pass user_confirmed as true. It also warns that posts.update with a status of publish goes live immediately. Keep Claude on show-before-after, one post at a time.

Keep the URL and slug as they are. A backlink points at an address, and Unstale notes that WordPress adds a redirect for a published post's old slug but not for pages or drafts.

How do I know it worked, and what are the limits?

Re-run the same questions in Linkeddit after the edit and compare presence and recommendation rates across repeated samples. On Linkeddit's test project, ChatGPT named the brand in 16 of 18 admissible samples, while Perplexity returned no usable samples because all 21 errored. Linkeddit reports that as unmeasured, not as zero, and you should read an unmeasured engine the same way.

Measurement runs through official provider APIs with grounded web search, so it is a controlled proxy and not an exact copy of what a consumer sees. Windsor.ai also cautions that a fetch by a user-agent bot is a potential citation, not proof the answer used the page.

This connector is WordPress.com's. The vendor documentation says Jetpack-connected self-hosted sites use the same server and tool catalog, and does not describe a route for a self-hosted site with no Jetpack connection.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get my WordPress site cited by ChatGPT?+

Let the OpenAI search crawlers in robots.txt, make sure the post ranks in Google, and open it with the plain answer to the question. Add schema and a visible FAQ. Then check which buying questions still name a competitor. Linkeddit lists those gaps, so you edit the posts that matter first.

What is the best tool to find where ChatGPT skips my WordPress site?+

Linkeddit, at $60 a month. Answer Radar asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews your buying questions and lists the ones where a competitor is named instead of you, with the sources cited. Connect it to Claude beside the WordPress.com connector and Claude can edit the matching posts.

Can ChatGPT help with WordPress?+

Yes. WordPress.com documents a ChatGPT plugin for its MCP server as well as Claude, Codex and Cursor setups. The workflow on this page is written and tested for Claude and Claude Code, so do not assume it carries over unchanged to another client without checking each step.

Can Claude edit my WordPress.com posts?+

Yes, if you grant full access. WordPress.com's tools reference lists posts.update and block-level operations such as post-sections.replace, each needing your confirmation. Choosing Read only at sign-in turns off every write tool. Claude can still read posts, which is enough for an audit before you allow edits.

Does this work with a self-hosted WordPress site?+

Only if the site is connected through Jetpack. WordPress.com's documentation says Jetpack-connected self-hosted sites use the same MCP server and tool catalog, with no separate Jetpack endpoint. The documentation does not describe a connection for a self-hosted site without Jetpack, so check the tool list your account shows.

How do I know whether ChatGPT cited my site?+

Two views help. Your server logs show fetches by ChatGPT-User, which Windsor.ai counts as a potential citation. Linkeddit shows the other side: whether your brand was named or cited across repeated samples of your buying questions. Judge a change across several runs, because one answer proves nothing.
