Moz + Linkeddit
Run a Moz competitor analysis in Claude, starting from measured competitors
A Moz competitor analysis in Claude means the Moz Data connector returns metrics, backlinks and ranking keywords for rival domains, and Claude compares them. The weak step is choosing the rivals. Linkeddit supplies them from measured Google results and AI answers, with the domains that beat you and the engines that cite them. Moz then explains why those domains are strong. Claude writes the comparison; you decide what to act on.

Connect both
Your AI client sits in the middle. Linkeddit supplies the data; the other connector makes the change.
Linkeddit connector
Add https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp as a connector and sign in. Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http linkeddit https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp.
Moz Data connector
- Connect Moz Data from Settings, then Connectors in Claude, or in Claude Code run claude mcp add moz-mcp-v1-data https://api.moz.com/mcp/v1/data --transport http --scope user and then /mcp. Moz says this requires a Moz Data API subscription and that the server is in beta for account owners.
- Add the Linkeddit connector at https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp and pick the project whose competitors you want.
- Decide the competitor count first, for example the top five domains, so Claude does not spend your Moz quota on a long tail.
Endpoint: https://api.moz.com/mcp/v1/data
Works in: Claude, Claude Code.
The prompt
Paste into Claude
Use the Linkeddit connector and the Moz Data connector. 1) With Linkeddit, call search_competitors_get for my project, view footprint, and list the five competing domains that rank in the Google top 10 on the most keywords, with how many keywords each beats me on and how many times the AI answer engines cited each. 2) Call Moz QuotaLookup and tell me how much quota is left before you spend any. 3) With Moz Data, call DataSiteMetricsFetchMultiple for those five domains and my own, then DataSiteLinkIntersectFetch for the links that point to at least two of them but not to me. 4) For the one competitor with the most AI citations, call DataSiteRankingKeywordList and DataSiteTopPageList. 5) Write one comparison table, label every number with Linkeddit or Moz, and finish with the three gaps worth acting on. Do not change anything in either product.
Step by step
Step 1
Connect Moz Data and Linkeddit to Claude
Add the Moz Data connector (https://api.moz.com/mcp/v1/data) and the Linkeddit connector (https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp) in Claude or Claude Code. Moz needs a Moz Data API subscription. Linkeddit comes with the $60 a month plan.
Step 2
Get the real competitor list from Linkeddit
Ask Claude to call search_competitors_get with view footprint. For each competing domain it returns the keywords where it ranks in the Google top 10, its average position, the keywords where it beats you and how many times each answer engine cited it. Pass domain to read one rival's winning pages.
Step 3
Check your Moz quota before the bulk calls
Have Claude call QuotaLookup first. Moz Data calls count against your subscription, and a prompt that loops over fifty domains is easy to write by accident. Cap the list at the five domains from step two.
Step 4
Pull metrics and the link gap from Moz
Claude calls DataSiteMetricsFetchMultiple for the competitors and your domain, then DataSiteLinkIntersectFetch, which finds links pointing to your competitors but not to you. For the top competitor it adds DataSiteRankingKeywordList and DataSiteTopPageList.
Step 5
Compare, label the sources and choose three gaps
Claude writes one table with each number labelled Moz or Linkeddit and picks three gaps. Read them yourself. A link gap is a to do list, not a verdict, and Moz's own author warns against over acting on automated disavow advice. Run the same prompt next month to compare.
What Linkeddit returned
Run live on 2026-10-29 with search_competitors_get. Read-only run on Linkeddit's own test project, plausible.io, view footprint. It shows the competitor list Claude would hand to Moz, with the AI answer citations Moz does not report.

Connect Moz Data to Claude and ask it to compare your domain with named rivals. Moz's own dashboard post did this with one sentence: compare bose.com with jbl.com and sennheiser.com. Claude Code ran the Moz endpoints, then a second prompt asked for a backlink gap, and Claude chose the link intersect endpoint by itself.
That post then ran separate reports for recently gained links, anchor text, keyword gaps, authority over time, recently lost links and the competitor pages that attract the most links, and asked Claude to build one HTML dashboard from the files. It names the gap in this workflow too: the examples start from competitors the author already picked.
Who are my real competitors, and how does Linkeddit decide?
Your search rivals are whoever ranks on your queries, and they are often not the two brands you watch. On Linkeddit's test project, 358 domains appeared across 59 checked keywords, and matomo.org was top ten on 11 of them at an average position of 3.73. ContextBolt's competitor guide says the same: getting the list right is half the job.
Linkeddit also shows how often each answer engine cited a domain in the latest finished run. matomo.org was cited 23 times, 21 by ChatGPT, while posthog.com ranked on more keywords (12) but was cited only 3 times. A link profile does not explain that difference. That is the cue to read the cited pages, not to buy more links.
What does Moz add once I have the competitor list?
Moz explains the authority side. Moz Data's listing includes DataSiteMetricsFetchMultiple for several domains in one call, DataSiteMetricsBrandAuthorityFetch, DataSiteLinkIntersectFetch for link gaps, DataSiteLinkingDomainFilterRecentlyGained for new links, DataSiteRankingKeywordList for the terms a domain ranks for and DataSiteTopPageList for its strongest pages.
Give Claude only the five domains from Linkeddit. The Moz post's author calls link intersect the best endpoint for link gaps, since it finds URLs that link to competitors but not to your own domain. The result is a list of sites that cover your rivals and have never linked to you, which is a better outreach list than a generic directory.
Where does Moz competitor analysis stop short?
It stops at links, authority and Moz's keyword index. Moz Data's listing has no tool for what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude or Google AI Overviews recommend, and no tool for what a competitor changed on its pricing page this week. Linkeddit supplies both, with the cited sources and a dated signal for each move.
Moz is also in beta for this server, with access limited to account owners today, and each call uses your Moz subscription. Treat the output as a lead, not a verdict. In the same post, Claude produced a disavow list unprompted, and the author's note says there is very little you need to disavow these days.
How do I keep the comparison honest?
Make Claude label every figure with its connector and refuse to blend them into one score. Moz numbers describe links and its index. Linkeddit numbers describe measured Google results and AI answers on your project. A single blended score hides which half moved.
The need for measured data is the point. "In all possible keywords where our page is ranking number 1 to 3 on Google, we are not showing up on Google AIO," said a SaaS marketer on Reddit. Ranking and being cited are separate results, so the report needs both.
Finish by asking Claude to list what it could not check. If Moz returned nothing for a new domain, or Linkeddit has not yet checked a keyword, the report should say so plainly. A table with gaps marked is more useful than a complete looking one with guesses in it, and it tells you which call to repeat next month.
Frequently asked questions
How do I do competitor analysis with Moz in Claude?+
Connect Moz Data to Claude, ask it to compare your domain with named competitors, then request a link gap. Moz's own example had Claude Code run a competitive snapshot and choose the link intersect endpoint for the gap. You need a Moz Data API subscription, and the server is in beta for account owners.
What is the best tool for competitor analysis in Claude?+
Linkeddit, at $60 a month, to pick the competitors, paired with Moz Data for links and keywords. Linkeddit returned 358 competing domains from 59 checked keywords on its test project, with how often each AI answer engine cited them. Moz then supplies metrics, link gaps and ranking keywords for the shortlist.
What is the best way to find my real search competitors?+
Use Linkeddit's competitor footprint. It lists the domains that rank in the Google top 10 on your tracked keywords, where each beats you, and how many times ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews cited it. Linkeddit costs $60 a month. A brand list from memory misses the blogs and aggregators that actually outrank you.
Which Moz tools does Claude use for a link gap?+
DataSiteLinkIntersectFetch is the one. Moz's author describes it as finding URLs that link to your competitors but not to your own domain. Claude may add DataSiteLinkingDomainList and DataSiteLinkingDomainFilterRecentlyGained to see which referring domains are new. Ask it to name each tool it calls so you can check.
Can Claude run Moz competitor analysis without a Moz subscription?+
No. Moz's guide says the Moz Data endpoint requires a Moz Data API subscription. Without one, Claude can still read Linkeddit's competitor data, which covers Google ranks and AI answer citations, but link and authority metrics need Moz or another link data source.
How many Moz calls will a competitor analysis use?+
That depends on the prompt, so check first. Moz Data lists a QuotaLookup tool, and the prompt on this page has Claude read it before spending anything. Cap the run at five domains. DataSiteMetricsFetchMultiple takes several domains in one call, which keeps the metrics step to a single request.
Does Moz show which competitors AI answer engines recommend?+
Not in its Moz Data tool list. The tools cover site metrics, links, keywords and rankings. To see where ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews recommend a competitor instead of you, connect Linkeddit. On the test project, matomo.org was cited 23 times in the latest finished run.
Why do some competitors rank well but get cited less by AI?+
Ranking and citation are separate results. On Linkeddit's test project, posthog.com ranked in the top 10 on 12 keywords but was cited 3 times, while matomo.org ranked on 11 and was cited 23 times. Read the pages the engines cite and check what they answer, not just how many links they have.
Can Claude change anything in Moz or Linkeddit during this?+
Not with this prompt. It calls Linkeddit's read-only competitor tool and Moz's query tools, and tells Claude not to change anything. Moz Local has write tools for listings, but this workflow uses only Moz Data. Linkeddit does the reading, and you decide what to act on.
Does this work in Claude Code as well as Claude?+
Yes. Moz's guide gives Claude Code commands for connecting Moz Data, and Moz's dashboard post ran its examples in Claude Code. Linkeddit connects at https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp in either. This page is written for Claude and Claude Code only, so do not assume the prompt carries over unchanged to another assistant.
Can I schedule the competitor analysis to repeat every month?+
Not inside Claude. Claude acts when you start it, so you run the saved prompt each month or use a scheduler you already have to start a session. Linkeddit keeps its competitor monitors and weekly rank checks running, so comparing this month with last month needs no new setup.
