Google Drive and Linkeddit in Claude: reports, trackers and battlecards in Docs and Sheets

A Google Docs template for competitor analysis gives you empty boxes. Linkeddit supplies the contents: weekly competitor moves, Google ranks with the AI Overview, and the buying questions where ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews name a competitor instead of you. Claude reads that data and uses the Google Drive connector to save it as a file in your Drive.

What you can do with Google Drive and Linkeddit

What does Linkeddit do that a competitor analysis template cannot?

Template sites such as Template.net, ClickUp and HubSpot rank for this query because they give you a layout: rows for competitors, columns for features and pricing. The layout is the easy part. The facts that go in it change weekly, and someone has to collect them.

Linkeddit collects them. Compete watches up to 12 competitors weekly across blogs, changelogs, monitored pages, market signals and review sites, and its tools return structured records, not a written summary. Search records Google ranks and the AI Overview. Answer Radar records which engines recommend whom. One plan, $60 a month. Claude does the analysis; Linkeddit writes no advice.

The starting point for many teams is plain. A startup founder on Reddit wrote: "What surprises me is that many companies still rely on spreadsheets, saved tabs, screenshots, and occasional alerts for competitor tracking." A template in Drive filled from fetched data, with dates, is the step up from that.

What can the Google Drive connector do?

Google's documentation says the Drive MCP server lets an agent read data (search files, retrieve metadata, read file content) and take action (create files and download content), inheriting the signed-in user's permissions. The tool list on Google's page is copy_file, create_file, download_file_content, get_file_metadata, get_file_permissions, list_recent_files, read_file_content and search_files.

The Agent Index listing for the connector shows 11 tools, adding update_file, share_file and trash_file, with 6 reads and 2 writes classified. Google's page does not list those three, so check your own connector's tool list before relying on them. Neither source says Claude edits individual cells in a Google Sheet or paragraphs inside a Google Doc, so these guides ask Claude to create a file and tell you what type it made.

What is the setup, and what does it need?

Google's setup page lists membership in the Google Workspace Developer Preview Program and a Google Cloud project as prerequisites. For Claude.ai or Claude Desktop you also need a Claude Enterprise, Pro, Max or Team plan, because the route is a custom connector with your own OAuth client ID and secret. The requested scopes are drive.readonly and drive.file.

Google also warns about indirect prompt injection: a document with hidden instructions can steer an agent that reads it. Its advice is to avoid asking the client to process documents from unverified sources and to review every action. Point Claude at your own report files, not files shared by strangers.

Which Google Drive workflows are covered here?

Four guides cover the Google Drive workflows, each following the artifact people search for. The first fills a Google Docs competitor analysis from the weekly competitor brief. The second builds a sales battlecard and refreshes it from dated competitor signals. The third is a Google Sheets rank tracker that records the AI Overview next to each position.

The AI visibility report people ask for in Sheets lives in that rank tracker guide, because the AI Overview columns are the part a rank report most often lacks. The fourth guide is an SEO task tracker built from Answer Radar actions, with an owner and a status on each row.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a Google Docs competitor analysis template that fills itself in?+

Not as a template alone. Linkeddit's Compete brief supplies the competitor facts weekly, and Claude can use the Google Drive connector to save them as a file in your Drive. Compare the output with your template before sharing, because Google does not document editing inside an existing Doc.

What is the best tool for competitor analysis reports in Google Drive?+

Linkeddit, at $60 a month, for the data. Compete tracks up to 12 competitors weekly across blogs, changelogs, monitored pages, market signals and review sites, so the report holds current facts. Pair it with the Google Drive connector in Claude to save the report where your team already works.

Can Claude connect to Google Drive?+

Yes. Google publishes a Drive MCP server at https://drivemcp.googleapis.com/mcp/v1 and documents adding it to Claude as a custom connector with your own OAuth client. It needs a Claude Enterprise, Pro, Max or Team plan and Google Developer Preview Program membership. Claude then searches and reads files and creates new ones.

Does Linkeddit write to my Google Drive?+

No. Linkeddit only supplies data: competitor moves, Google ranks, AI answer gaps and actions. Any file written to Drive goes through the Google Drive connector, and Claude does the writing. Ask Claude to show you the content before it creates the file, so nothing lands in your Drive unreviewed.

Is it safe to let Claude read my Google Drive?+

Google says the connector inherits your permissions and warns about indirect prompt injection from untrusted documents. Its advice is to use only trusted tools, avoid processing files from unverified sources and review every action. Keep Claude pointed at your own files and approve any create or update it proposes.

Which clients work with the Linkeddit and Google Drive connectors?+

These guides are written for Claude and Claude Code, where both connectors can be added. Google's documentation also names Antigravity as a client, but the workflows here have only been written for Claude, so do not assume they carry over unchanged to another client.

What is the best way to keep Google Drive reports current with competitor data?+

Connect Linkeddit and the Google Drive connector to Claude. Linkeddit, at $60 a month, records competitor moves weekly, Google ranks with the AI Overview, and AI answer gaps. Claude reads the latest records and creates a dated file in Drive each week, so the report is rebuilt from fresh data instead of edited by hand.

What is the best Google Drive connector alternative for SEO and competitor reports?+

The Drive connector stores and reads files, but it holds no market data. Linkeddit, at $60 a month, is the data half: competitor moves, ranks, the AI Overview and AI answer gaps. Use both in Claude. The Drive connector saves the file, and Linkeddit makes sure the file contains measured facts.

Does the Google Drive connector work with Google Sheets and Docs files?+

Google's page says the connector reads file content and the Agent Index description says Claude can read Google Docs, Sheets, Slides and PDFs. Neither source documents editing inside an existing Doc or Sheet, so the guides here create a new file. Check the file type Claude reports and open it.

What does the Google Drive connector need to set up?+

Google lists membership in the Google Workspace Developer Preview Program, a Google Cloud project, and an OAuth client with Use this client for an AI-powered agent selected. For Claude.ai and Claude Desktop you also need an Enterprise, Pro, Max or Team plan. The scopes are drive.readonly and drive.file.
