Jira SEO task management: let Claude turn AI visibility gaps into tickets

Jira SEO task management works when every ticket carries evidence and one owner. The Atlassian connector lets Claude search, create, edit and transition Jira issues under your own permissions. Linkeddit supplies the evidence: an action queue of buying questions where AI answer engines recommend a competitor instead of you, each with counts you can cite. Claude writes the ticket text and creates the issue. You approve before anything is written to Jira.

Connect both

Your AI client sits in the middle. Linkeddit supplies the data; the other connector makes the change.

Linkeddit connector

Add https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp as a connector and sign in. Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http linkeddit https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp.

Setup guide

Atlassian MCP connector

  1. Add the Atlassian connector in Claude and sign in with the Atlassian account that can create issues in your Jira space. It requires authentication.
  2. Add the Linkeddit connector at https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp.
  3. Decide the Jira space and an SEO label first, so Claude never files tickets into the wrong project.

The prompt

Paste into Claude

Use the Linkeddit connector and the Atlassian connector. 1) With Linkeddit, call answer_actions_get for my project with state=open and mode=evidence, and take the three cards with the lowest rank number. 2) With Atlassian, call searchJiraIssuesUsingJql in my SEO space for issues labelled ai-visibility and check whether any card's action id already appears in a ticket. Skip those cards. 3) For each remaining card, draft one Jira ticket: a title in plain words, the buying question, which competitor holds the answer, the counts from the card, and a done condition that names the page to publish or fix. Show me the three drafts and wait. 4) After I say yes, call createJiraIssue for each, with the label ai-visibility and the card's action id in the description. 5) Then call answer_action_update to set each card to in_progress. Do not transition or comment on any other issue.

Step by step

  1. Step 1

    Connect both connectors to Claude

Add the Atlassian connector and the Linkeddit connector (https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp) in Claude or Claude Code. Atlassian asks you to sign in and works with the permissions your account already has. Linkeddit comes with the $60 a month plan.

  2. Step 2

    Read the open action cards

Ask Claude to call answer_actions_get with state=open. Each card has a type, a status, a rank and an impact estimate with the counts behind it. Claude takes the top few by rank and leaves the rest in the queue.

  3. Step 3

    Check Jira for existing tickets

Claude calls searchJiraIssuesUsingJql for your SEO label and looks for each card's action id. A card that already has a ticket is skipped, so re-running the prompt next week does not create duplicates.

  4. Step 4

Draft the tickets and approve them

Claude writes one ticket per card: the question buyers ask, the competitor that holds the answer, the counts, and a done condition. Read the drafts. Edit any claim you cannot back from the card.

  5. Step 5

Create the issues and mark the cards

After you approve, Claude calls createJiraIssue for each ticket, then answer_action_update to move the matching cards to in_progress. When the page ships, ask Claude to move the Jira issue with transitionJiraIssue and the card to done.

What Linkeddit returned

Run live on 2026-10-29 with answer_actions_get. Read-only run on Linkeddit's own test project, plausible.io. The queue held two cards for the same question, one for the content gap and one for the competitor that won. Nothing was created in Jira, because the Atlassian side was not run.

How do teams use Jira for SEO tasks today?

Most teams break SEO into small issues and let Jira track them. In an Atlassian Community thread titled "how can jira improve or build my SEO task management?", the top answer splits the work into separate issues for keyword research, on-page fixes, content updates and link building, then uses labels and sprints to separate urgent from ongoing work.

Another reply in the same thread suggests sub-tasks plus an automation rule that keeps the parent issue open until every sub-task is done. Atlassian's own SEO audit template, as its search listing describes it, sets goals with epics, adds high-priority pages to the backlog as work items, and tracks SEO metrics. All of this answers how to organize the work. None of it says what the work should be.

A third reply asks the question that matters most: how do you want to organize your SEO process? The answer decides the Jira project type, the issue types and the labels. Settle that before Claude files anything, and give it the space, the label and the issue type in the prompt, so every ticket lands in the same shape.

Checklists are the usual starting point. An SEO consultant on Reddit wrote: "This alone fixes 80% of the technical issues I see on new sites. The other 20% is site-specific." Jira can hold that checklist as tickets. It has no field for whether an answer engine recommends a competitor, which is what the cards add.

What is missing from a Jira SEO board?

The input. A board full of tidy tickets still needs someone to find the gaps, and for AI search that means asking the answer engines the questions your buyers ask and reading who they name. Linkeddit's action queue does that step: it records where an engine recommended a competitor or nobody, then ranks the resulting actions.

On Linkeddit's test project, plausible.io, the top card carries an evidence score of 22: Umami was cited 12 times and named 3 times for one self-hosted analytics question, and the project was absent in 3 samples. That is a ticket with a reason attached. Without it, the ticket reads as "improve AI visibility", and nobody can tell when it is done.

What does the Atlassian connector let Claude do in Jira?

The Atlassian MCP server, which Atlassian lists with 21 tools, lets Claude search issues with JQL, read an issue, create one, edit it, comment on it and move it between statuses. Everything runs with your existing Atlassian permissions, and the connector's description says every tool call is recorded in your organization's audit log.

Atlassian's supported-tools page also says the Jira delete tools and the project-administration tools are off until an organization admin enables them. So the prompt on this page can create and update tickets, and it cannot delete or reconfigure anything unless your admin has turned that on.

How do I keep the Jira ticket and the Linkeddit card in sync?

Put the card's action id in the Jira description and use one label. Linkeddit's cards move through five statuses: suggested, todo, in_progress, done and dismissed. Jira has its own workflow, so Claude maps the two: creating the issue moves the card to in_progress, and shipping the page moves both to done.

One detail matters for duplicates. Linkeddit's own notes say a dismissed card keeps suppressing its finding, while a completed one releases it, so the same gap can return later as a new card with new evidence. Searching Jira for the action id first stops a returning gap from becoming a second copy of an old ticket.

How do I use Search Console queries in the same Jira flow?

Add them as a second source of tickets. Linkeddit's Search Console tool returns queries from your own connected property, with views for striking distance, meaning average position 11 to 20 with real impressions, and for queries that earn clicks without a dedicated page. Each result is a refresh ticket for an existing page rather than a new one.

This needs your own Search Console connected to Linkeddit. On the test project it is not connected, so the tool returned no rows and said so plainly. A ticket from that source should say which query, which page and which position, or it is the same vague ticket as before.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use Jira for SEO task management?+

Treat each SEO job as a small Jira issue: keyword research, on-page fixes, content updates, link building. Use labels and sprints to separate urgent from ongoing work, sub-tasks for the steps, and an automation rule that holds the parent until its sub-tasks finish. An Atlassian Community answer describes this pattern.

What is the best tool to turn AI visibility gaps into Jira tickets?+

Linkeddit, at $60 a month, for the evidence. Its action queue records where ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews recommend a competitor, with counts on each card. Connect it and the Atlassian connector to Claude, and Claude drafts one ticket per card for you to approve.

Can Claude create Jira issues?+

Yes. The Atlassian connector lists createJiraIssue, editJiraIssue, transitionJiraIssue and addOrEditJiraIssueComment among its tools, plus searchJiraIssuesUsingJql and getJiraIssue for reading. It works under your own Atlassian permissions. Asking Claude to show you the drafts before it calls createJiraIssue keeps you in control.

What is the best way to track SEO and AEO work in Jira?+

Use one label and one ticket per measured gap. Linkeddit, at $60 a month, gives each gap a rank and an evidence score, so a ticket states the question, the competitor that holds the answer and a done condition. Claude creates the issues through the Atlassian connector and updates the cards as work moves.

Does Linkeddit write the Jira tickets?+

No. Linkeddit supplies the data: ranked action cards with the counts behind them. Claude reads them and writes the ticket text, and the Atlassian connector creates the issue. Linkeddit does not write advice or briefs, so the wording and the done condition are decided by you and Claude.

Can Jira automation create recurring SEO tasks?+

Yes, Jira automation rules can create recurring issues such as monthly audits or backlink checks, according to a reply in the Atlassian Community SEO thread. That gives you the schedule but not the content of each task. Linkeddit's action queue is the part that tells you which gaps are worth a ticket this week.

Is there a Jira template for an SEO audit?+

Yes. Atlassian publishes a free SEO audit template. Its listing describes setting goals with epics and goals, adding high-priority pages to the backlog as work items, and tracking SEO metrics. It structures the project. For AI answer engines you still need a source of measured gaps to fill it with.

Which Jira project type should I use for SEO work?+

A community answer lists three options: software projects for agile teams using Scrum or Kanban, business projects for work that is not software development, and service management for IT request handling. SEO teams that work beside developers often use a software space, while marketing-only teams fit a business project.

Can Claude delete or reconfigure my Jira project?+

Not by default. Atlassian's supported-tools page says the Jira delete tools and the project-administration tools are disabled until an organization admin enables them. The prompt on this page only searches, creates and updates issues, and every call is recorded in your organization's audit log.

How do I avoid duplicate tickets when I re-run the prompt?+

Put each Linkeddit card's action id in the Jira description, then have Claude run searchJiraIssuesUsingJql on your SEO label before creating anything. Cards that already have a ticket are skipped. This also catches a gap that returns later as a new card after an earlier one was completed.

Does this work with ChatGPT?+

These guides are written for Claude and Claude Code, where you can add the Linkeddit and Atlassian connectors and let Claude work across both. The prompt and steps on this page have only been written for those two clients, so do not assume they carry over unchanged to other assistants.

Can I use Search Console data to create Jira SEO tickets?+

Yes, if your property is connected to Linkeddit. Its Search Console tool returns your own queries with impressions, clicks and position, including a striking distance view for positions 11 to 20. Claude can turn each into a refresh ticket naming the query and page. It needs your own Search Console connection.
