Rank Trackers That Also Track Google AI Overviews: What Each One Records (2026)

Nearly every rank tracker now says it tracks AI Overviews. The word hides three different things: whether an Overview appeared, whether it cited you, and which sources it named. Here is what each tool records, how often, for how many keywords and at what entry price, read from the vendors' own pages.

Key takeaways

  • Ask every vendor three things per keyword: did an AI Overview appear, did it cite my domain, and which sources did it cite. Most pages answer only the first or blur all three.
  • Search Console's generative AI report has no query dimension and cannot show an Overview that skipped you, so it cannot replace a tracker (Google, read 28 October 2026).
  • AI Overviews vary run to run. One check is a sample, so a daily or weekly series is worth more than any single reading.
  • Entry prices read from vendor pages on 28 October 2026 range from free (SEO PowerSuite) to $139 a month (Semrush, Advanced Web Ranking). Raven Tools mentions no AI Overview tracking at all.
  • A small SaaS needs tens of keywords on buying terms, not thousands. Keyword limits matter less than check frequency and what is recorded per check.

1What tracking AI Overviews should mean

A classic rank tracker answers one question: where does my page rank for this keyword. An AI Overview changes the page above the ten blue links, so a tracker that tracks Overviews should answer three more, per keyword and per check.

  1. Did an AI Overview appear? This is the trigger. It tells you which of your keywords now have an answer box above your result.
  2. Did it cite your domain? Ranking fourth under an Overview that cites you is a different situation from ranking fourth under one that cites two competitors.
  3. Which sources did it cite? This tells you who is winning the citation when it is not you.

Two more things decide whether the numbers are usable. Coverage of AI Mode, which is a separate Google surface from the Overview on the results page, and how the tool handles the fact that AI Overviews change between runs. Our own keyword lab, run on 28 October 2026 across 500 keywords, found an AI Overview on 130 of them and a citation of linkeddit.com on 3. Those counts are one day's sample, which is exactly the point.

For how Overviews differ from AI Mode, see Google AI Overviews vs AI Mode. For the case where you rank but are not cited, see ranking on Google but not cited by AI.

3Tool by tool notes

Semrush. Position Tracking checks daily and its page mentions mobile and desktop splits and ZIP-code level local data. It says it tracks when keywords trigger AI Overviews and whether you appear in them, and prompts in other AI engines. At 500 daily keywords on the $139 plan it is the most expensive per keyword in this list, in return for a full SEO suite.

Ahrefs. Rank Tracker covers 190+ locations from country to ZIP code on mobile and desktop and lists AI Overview among 19 SERP features. Its pricing page shows weekly updates on every plan and 750 tracked keywords on Lite at $129 a month. The AI prompt side is a separate product, Brand Radar, with its own monthly check limit.

SE Ranking. The best keyword count for the money here: 2,000 keywords checked daily on Core. AI Overview and AI Mode tracking sit in the AI Search add-on, so budget for both. Our SE Ranking AI visibility tracker review goes deeper on that add-on.

Nightwatch. Unlimited seats, priced by keywords tracked: 500 keywords and 50 AI prompts on Starter, tracked daily in any location. Its page does not say what is stored per AI Overview.

Mangools SERPWatcher. Weekly updates (daily on Agency), city level localization and a clean interface suit solo founders. We could not read its price or an AI Overview feature from the pages it serves, so we do not rate it for this job.

4If you are leaving Raven Tools, Pro Rank Tracker, Advanced Web Ranking or SEO PowerSuite

Searches for alternatives to these four tools are common, and the honest answer differs for each, because on this one feature they are not equal.

  • Raven Tools. Its site mentions no AI Overview tracking. If that is why you are looking, every other tool in the table above except Mangools gives you something to compare. Raven charges per position check (1,500 on Small Biz), so the nearest like-for-like on price is Pro Rank Tracker at $99 or Nightwatch from €79.
  • Pro Rank Tracker. It already tracks AI Overviews and AI Mode inside its plan and records links and mentions. Leave it for reasons other than this feature, such as keyword count: SE Ranking Core gives 2,000 for $129.
  • Advanced Web Ranking. It lists AI Visibility tracking with citations and mentions at $139. Its keyword units multiply by engine, device and location, so compare effective keywords, not the headline 7,000.
  • SEO PowerSuite. A desktop app with unlimited keywords and a free tier that lists AI Overview tracking. The trade-off is that checks run from your machine and it is not a hosted dashboard for a team. If that matters, SE Ranking or Pro Rank Tracker are the hosted equivalents.

6What Search Console can and cannot show

Google's generative AI performance report is in Search Console for all sites worldwide since 31 August 2026, and it counts impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode. It is free and first-party, which makes it the right baseline.

  • It groups impressions by page, country, date and device. There is no query dimension, so it cannot tell you which keywords trigger an Overview.
  • An impression means a link to your site was shown. An Overview that appeared for your keyword and skipped you produces no impression, so the report cannot show the gap.
  • The usual Search Console limits apply, including the 1,000 row cap on tables.

Source: Google Search Console Help, Generative AI performance report, read 28 October 2026. That is the reason to add a tracker that records the Overview per keyword. It is also the reason to treat any one reading as a sample: Google does not show the same Overview every time, and may show none on a repeat of the same search. For turning the report into a workflow, see tracking AI Overview visibility in Search Console.

7How to choose

Start from the job, then let the price follow.

  • Count the keywords you will actually act on. A small SaaS gets more from 50 to 150 buying, comparison and alternative terms than from 2,000 it never reads. That puts Linkeddit Search, Pro Rank Tracker Starter, Nightwatch Starter and Semrush Starter all in range.
  • Decide whether daily matters. Daily checks help when you ship changes often and want to see movement within days, or when you want to average out Overview volatility. Weekly is enough for a monthly review.
  • Decide whether you need cited sources. If you want to see who wins the citation when it is not you, look at Pro Rank Tracker (compares your URL with other cited sources), SE Ranking (its checker shows sources) and AccuRanker (sources listed on its home page), and confirm the plan you buy includes it.
  • Check locations and devices. Semrush and Ahrefs publish ZIP-code level local tracking. Linkeddit Search is US only.
  • Run a trial on your own keywords. Track the same twenty keywords in two tools for two weeks and compare the Overview column. Differences between tools are normal because the Overview varies, so judge the tool by how stable and explainable its record is.

Try the weekly Overview and citation record

Linkeddit Search records rank, AI Overview shown, whether it cites you and the position one domain for each keyword, weekly on Google US. It is included in the $60 a month Compete plan.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best rank tracker that also tracks AI Overviews?+

It depends on the job. For daily checks across many keywords with AI Overview and AI Mode tracking, Semrush, SE Ranking, Pro Rank Tracker and Advanced Web Ranking all list it, from $99 to $139 a month at entry (checked 28 October 2026). For a small weekly watchlist that records per keyword whether an Overview appeared and cited you, Linkeddit Search (we make it) is included in the $60 Compete plan.

What is the best rank tracker tool for a small SaaS company?+

A small SaaS usually needs 50 to 200 keywords on its buying and comparison terms, not thousands. SE Ranking Core ($129 a month, 2,000 keywords checked daily) and Pro Rank Tracker Starter ($99, 1,000 terms daily) give daily data. Linkeddit Search (we make it) checks 50 keywords per site weekly on Google US and is included in the $60 Compete plan. Prices checked 28 October 2026.

What is the best rank checker tool?+

A rank checker looks up where a page ranks right now, and a rank tracker repeats that on a schedule so you can see movement. For one-off checks, Ahrefs and SE Ranking offer free checkers with limited daily use. For ongoing tracking, pick on location coverage, check frequency, keyword limit and whether AI Overviews are recorded per keyword.

How can I check the ranking of my website?+

Search Console is the free first-party source: its Performance report shows average position by query and page, from real searches. A rank tracker adds what Search Console cannot: a fixed location and device, results for keywords you do not yet get impressions for, and the domain in position one. Use both, because they answer different questions.

How do I track whether my site appears in Google AI Overviews?+

Use two sources. Search Console's generative AI performance report counts impressions of your links in AI Overviews and AI Mode by page, country, date and device. A rank tracker that records the Overview on each check tells you, per keyword, whether one appeared and whether it cited you. Neither alone is complete.

Does Google Search Console show which keywords trigger an AI Overview?+

No. The generative AI performance report has no query dimension: it groups impressions by page, country, date and device only, and it counts an impression only when a link to your site was shown. An Overview that appeared on your keyword without citing you leaves no trace in it. Source: Google's help page, read 28 October 2026.

Why do AI Overviews show up on one check and not the next?+

Google does not return the same AI Overview every time, and may show none on a repeat of the same search. That makes a single check a sample, not a fact. Read the Overview columns across several weekly or daily checks before concluding that a keyword has an Overview or that it cites you.

Which is better, SE Ranking or Semrush?+

On entry plans read 28 October 2026: SE Ranking Core is $129 a month for 2,000 keywords checked daily, with AI Overviews and AI Mode tracking in a separate AI Search add-on from $89. Semrush SEO Starter is $139 for 500 keywords checked daily and lists AI Overview tracking inside Position Tracking. SE Ranking gives more keywords for the money. Semrush gives a bigger suite.

Is there a free rank tracker that tracks AI Overviews?+

SEO PowerSuite's Rank Tracker is a desktop app with a free tier, and its pricing page lists Google AI Overviews tracking on every plan including Free, with one project and no saving of results. SE Ranking's free AI Overviews checker looks up 5 keywords a day and shows the sources. What each records over time is not verified here.

Why are AI Overviews not showing up for my keyword?+

Google decides per search whether to show one, and it varies by query, location, device and run. A tracker reporting no Overview on one check may simply have drawn a search without one. Check the same keyword across several weeks, and treat a keyword as Overview-free only after repeated checks agree.
