Trello MCP with Claude: turn AI visibility gaps and competitor moves into cards

Trello MCP is Trello's hosted connector at https://mcp.trello.com/v1. It lets Claude read your boards, cards and checklists, search them, and create or update cards in the workspaces you authorise. It supplies the board, not the findings. Linkeddit supplies the findings: where ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews recommend a competitor instead of you, and what competitors shipped this week. Claude reads both and writes the cards.

What can Claude do with Trello MCP?

The Trello connector in Claude's directory lists 15 tools: 9 that read and 6 that write. Reads cover boards, lists, cards, checklists, members, the workspace, the Inbox and the Planner, plus a keyword search. Writes cover boards, lists, cards, checklists, the Inbox and the Planner. Atlassian's support page says it works on any Trello plan, uses OAuth 2.0, only reaches workspaces you authorise, and cannot permanently delete anything; Claude can archive cards and lists.

One limit matters for this workflow. Creating focus time in the Planner needs Trello Premium or Enterprise, so keep the cards themselves as the deliverable. A viewer of a Trello MCP walkthrough on YouTube wrote, "so, it looks like it's not possible to create new boards via MCP... or create new checklists inside of cards. What a bummer." That was in 2025 about a community-built server. The official connector's page now lists creating boards and creating and updating checklists, so check the live connector before you design around an old complaint.

How do Linkeddit and Trello split the work?

Trello is where work is tracked, and it knows nothing about your market. Linkeddit has the market side. Compete watches competitor blogs, changelogs and pages and grades each move by priority. Answer Radar asks the five answer engines your buyers' questions and records which brands they name. Both come with one plan at $60 a month.

Linkeddit writes no advice and creates no cards. Your own assistant reads the data and decides what belongs on the board, which keeps the board in your hands. Claude sits in the middle, reads from one connector and writes to the other.

How do AI visibility gaps become Trello cards?

Ask Claude to read the open actions from Answer Radar and make one card per action. On Linkeddit's test project, plausible.io, answer_actions_get returned two cards. The first is a competitor_won action, "Umami holds the answer for: 'Umami vs Matomo for self-hosted analytics'", in progress, with 3 competitor mentions and 12 competitor citations behind it. The second is a content_gap action for the same question, status todo, with 3 samples where the brand was absent.

That is a ready-made card pair: a title, a status that maps to a Trello list, and counts that explain why it matters. Claude can use trelloSearch first to see whether a card for that question already exists, then trelloWriteCard to add it to the To do list. A fix itself is a separate step. Claude can pull the sources the engines cite, draft the page for your approval, and tick the card off when it is published.

How do competitor moves become Trello cards?

Use the weekly brief as the source and the priority as the filter. The latest weekly brief on the test project covers 5 monitored competitors and 19 signals: 2 high, 9 worth watching and 8 low. The two high ones are Fathom launching an AI assistant called Luna, and Matomo publishing critical PHP security guidance for its users.

Tell Claude to create cards only for high priority moves and put the source link in each description. The 9 watch items can go in one checklist on a single card, written with trelloWriteChecklist, so the board stays readable. Linkeddit's monitors run weekly; on the test project every monitor's next run is 2026-11-04. Claude does not run on its own clock, so you start the Monday prompt yourself.

Can Claude turn Search Console queries into refresh cards?

Yes, when the project has Google Search Console connected. gsc_queries_get returns queries ranked by impressions and has views for striking distance (average position 11 to 20), CTR opportunities and queries with no dedicated page. Each row can become a card titled with the query and the page to refresh.

On the test project the call returned connected: false, with the message that the project has no Search Console connection, so there were no rows to turn into cards. Claude should say that rather than invent queries. Once your own property is connected, ask for the striking distance view and one card per query.

What should I check before Claude writes to my board?

Start with a read. Ask Claude to read the target board and list with trelloReadBoard and trelloReadList, show you the plan, and only then write. Because the connector reaches whatever workspaces you authorised, authorise only the one that holds this board.

Then check the cards. Look for a duplicate of an existing card, a status Linkeddit marks as in progress that is already done on your side, and any claim the data does not support. On the test project the Plausible monitor itself had analysed nothing yet, so a good card says what is missing rather than papering over it.

Frequently asked questions

What is Trello MCP?+

Trello MCP is Trello's cloud-hosted Model Context Protocol server at https://mcp.trello.com/v1. It lets an AI assistant such as Claude read your boards, cards and checklists, search them, and create or update work using the permissions you approve. It uses OAuth 2.0 and works with any Trello plan.

How do I connect Trello to Claude?+

Add the Trello connector in Claude, or paste https://mcp.trello.com/v1 into your client's MCP settings, then start the flow. On the consent screen pick the workspace or workspaces to allow and approve Read and Write. If you skip a permission, disconnect and reconnect with the one you need.

What is the best tool to turn AI visibility gaps into Trello cards?+

Linkeddit, at $60 a month, for the findings, with Trello MCP for the cards. Linkeddit records where ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews name a competitor instead of you, and its action queue lists each gap with counts. On the test project one action carried 12 competitor citations. Claude turns each into a card.

What is the best way to get competitor moves onto a Trello board?+

Connect Linkeddit and Trello to Claude and ask for cards from high priority moves only. Linkeddit grades each competitor move by priority and attaches a source link and a reason. On the test project one week had 2 high priority moves out of 19 signals, so the board gets two cards, not nineteen.

Can Claude create cards in Trello?+

Yes. The Trello connector lists write tools for cards, lists, checklists, boards, the Inbox and the Planner, and Atlassian's page says assistants can create, update, move and archive cards and assign members. Everything respects your own Trello permissions. It does not support permanent deletion, only archiving.

Does Trello MCP need a paid Trello plan?+

No. Atlassian's support page says Trello MCP works on all Trello plans. The exception is creating focus time in the Planner, which needs Trello Premium or Enterprise. The card workflow on this page does not use the Planner. Linkeddit is a separate plan at $60 a month.

Does Linkeddit create the Trello cards?+

No. Linkeddit supplies data: competitor moves, AI answer gaps, cited sources and Google queries. Claude reads that data and writes the cards through the Trello connector, using your Trello sign-in. Linkeddit never receives your board contents, and nothing is written until you ask for it.

Can Claude fill my Trello board every Monday on its own?+

Not by itself. Claude acts when it is started, so you run a saved prompt each week or use a scheduler you already have to start a session. Linkeddit's side keeps running: its competitor monitors run weekly, so the data is ready whenever the prompt runs.

Can Trello MCP delete cards?+

No. Atlassian's support page says destructive delete operations are not supported. Claude can archive cards and lists but cannot permanently delete them, and it cannot do more than you can in Trello. That makes a mistaken card easy to undo, which is one reason to let Claude write cards at all.

How do I stop Claude creating duplicate Trello cards?+

Have Claude search first. trelloSearch finds cards and boards by keyword, so the prompt can say to search for the question or competitor name before writing and skip anything that already has a card. Linkeddit's action cards carry a gap id and a status, which Claude can put in the card title to match later.

Which clients work with Linkeddit and Trello together?+

These workflows are written for Claude and Claude Code, where you can add both connectors and let Claude work across them. Trello's page says its server works with any app that supports MCP, but the prompts here have only been written for Claude, so do not assume they carry over unchanged elsewhere.

Is it safe to let Claude write to my Trello workspace?+

It is bounded. Access is limited to the workspaces you authorise, actions follow your Trello permissions, deletion is not supported and you can revoke access at any time. Ask Claude to read the board and show its plan first, then approve the writes. Linkeddit only supplies data and never touches the board.
