Similarweb MCP in Claude, with Linkeddit for measured AI answers

The Similarweb connector gives Claude Similarweb's traffic, audience, referral, ranking and keyword data on any site, so a competitor question gets a sourced answer in one chat. Linkeddit adds a different measurement: what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews actually say to your buying questions, which sources they cite, and your weekly Google ranks. Claude joins the two, and you decide what to change.

What does the Similarweb connector give Claude?

The Similarweb connector is a read-only MCP server at mcp.similarweb.com, and its Agent Index listing shows 22 tools, all reads. They cover website traffic and engagement, traffic sources by channel, referrals, similar sites, popular pages, audience overlap, demographics, geography, ad networks, PPC spend and app store data. Nothing in it can write to your Similarweb account.

Similarweb's own documentation also describes search metrics such as keywords, SERP players and SERP clicks, with fields like volume, difficulty and position. Its docs say the connector uses the same data credits as standard API calls, and that a prompt which pulls more data types uses more credits. Ask Claude for the rows you need, not a whole market.

How does Linkeddit fit next to Similarweb?

Similarweb measures how people use websites. Linkeddit measures what AI answer engines say. The two answer different questions: Similarweb tells you a competitor gets a given share of its visits from organic search, and Linkeddit tells you whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews recommend that competitor when a buyer asks. One plan at $60 a month covers Linkeddit.

Linkeddit supplies data and writes no advice, so Claude does the analysis. A typical pairing: Similarweb sizes a rival's traffic and channel mix, then Linkeddit shows which of your buying questions that rival is named on, with the sources the engines cited.

People who track this by hand describe the strain. "I'm curious how other SEOs are tracking AI visibility without turning it into a spreadsheet of manually checked prompts," wrote an SEO consultant on Reddit. A repeatable measurement is the point of the Linkeddit half.

Doesn't Similarweb already track AI visibility?

Yes, and these pages do not argue with that. Similarweb sells an AI search intelligence suite with an AI Brand Visibility tool, citation analysis, brand mention share and share of voice by topic cluster, all described on its own site. Its Rank Tracker also flags which keywords trigger a Google AI Overview.

Similarweb is also candid about where its connector stops. In its own guide to GEO keyword research with the MCP, it lists the limits: the MCP pulls traditional search volume, and actual AI citation frequency comes from its separate citation analysis tool. So if you want AI citations, you either use that Similarweb product or a second source.

Linkeddit is a second source, not a replacement. It asks five engines the same buying questions each week, records who is named and which pages are cited, and keeps the Google rank and the AI Overview citation as separate fields. If your two readings disagree, that is a reason to look closer.

How do I run a competitor analysis with Similarweb and Linkeddit?

Start with Similarweb. Ask Claude for the traffic trend, channel mix and similar sites for your domain and two or three rivals, using the traffic and engagement, traffic sources and similar sites tools. Similarweb's launch post lists competitive benchmarking and channel attribution as its most popular workflows.

Then ask Linkeddit which of those rivals the engines actually recommend. On Linkeddit's test project, plausible.io, the footprint view lists 358 competing domains from 59 checked keywords. matomo.org ranks in the Google top 10 on 11 of them, beats the project on 8, and was cited 23 times in the latest finished answer run: 21 by ChatGPT and 2 by Google AI Overviews. Claude can put that next to Similarweb's traffic for the same domain and show where a rival's reach and its AI presence disagree.

How do I read AI citations and AI Overviews next to Similarweb?

Use Similarweb for traffic and Linkeddit for the answers that sit above the click. On the test project, Linkeddit's latest rank check shows google analytics alternative at position 2 with a Google AI Overview shown that cites the project, while cookieless analytics is outside the top 10 and the Overview still cites it. A rank report alone would have missed that second case.

For engine answers, the results view reports presence and share of voice per engine. On the test project, the brand was named or cited in 16 of 18 usable ChatGPT samples and 17 of 20 Google AI Mode samples, against 5 of 10 for Claude. Perplexity returned errors in all 21 samples, so it is reported as unmeasured, not as zero. Reading the unmeasured rows honestly is part of the job.

What should I check before acting on the combined data?

Check the date and the instrument. Similarweb's own disclaimer says AI-generated insights from MCP data may be incomplete or inaccurate, and Linkeddit's results carry a disclosure of the engine, the locale and the number of samples. Ask Claude to quote both.

Then keep the roles apart. Similarweb says how much traffic a page or channel gets; Linkeddit says whether engines name you. A competitor with big traffic and no AI presence needs a different response from one with modest traffic that every engine recommends.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use Similarweb with Claude?+

Connect the Similarweb connector in Claude and sign in with your Similarweb credentials. Similarweb's docs say you need a subscription with API or MCP access on an API-only, Business or Enterprise plan. Then ask in plain language, for example for a competitor's traffic sources, similar sites or top pages. Add Linkeddit when you also want measured AI answers.

What is the Similarweb MCP server?+

It is Similarweb's hosted Model Context Protocol server at mcp.similarweb.com, which lets Claude and other AI clients read Similarweb data. The connector listing shows 22 tools, all reads, covering traffic, referrals, audiences, rankings and app data. It uses the same data credits as Similarweb's standard API calls.

What is the best tool to pair with Similarweb MCP for AI answer data?+

Linkeddit, at $60 a month. It asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews your buying questions each week, records who is named and which sources are cited, and keeps your Google rank separate from the AI Overview. Claude then sets that beside Similarweb's traffic data for the same competitors.

Does Linkeddit replace Similarweb's AI visibility tools?+

No. Similarweb has its own AI Brand Visibility and citation analysis tools, and you can keep using them. Linkeddit is a second measurement: five engines asked the same buying questions each week, with the sources cited and the gaps listed. Comparing the two readings is useful, and a disagreement is worth a closer look.

Does the Similarweb MCP track AI citations?+

Not by itself, according to Similarweb. Its guide to GEO keyword research with the MCP says the MCP pulls traditional search volume and that actual AI citation frequency comes from its separate citation analysis tool. Linkeddit supplies citations for five engines, with the cited domains listed per answer.

What is the best way to compare a competitor's traffic with its AI visibility?+

Use Similarweb for traffic and Linkeddit for AI answers, both in Claude. Linkeddit, at $60 a month, lists each competitor's Google top 10 keywords and how often each engine cited it. On its test project, matomo.org was cited 23 times in the latest run. Similarweb adds the visits and channel mix behind it.

Can Claude change my Similarweb account through the connector?+

No. The Similarweb connector's listing shows 22 tools and all of them are reads, so Claude can pull data but cannot change settings or create anything in your account. Calls do use your data credits. Linkeddit's tools in these workflows are reads as well, so nothing changes in either account.

Do I need a paid Similarweb plan for the connector?+

Yes. Similarweb's setup page says you need a subscription with API or MCP access, on an API-only, Business or Enterprise plan, and a Similarweb login to enable the connection. Its launch post adds that new customers should contact Similarweb about API plans. Check the current terms with Similarweb before you rely on this.

Do these Similarweb and Linkeddit workflows work in ChatGPT?+

They are written for Claude and Claude Code. Similarweb documents setup guides for other clients, including ChatGPT, but the combined workflows on this page have not been written or tested for ChatGPT, and clients handle tools differently. Do not assume a prompt carries over unchanged to another client.

Can Similarweb data and Linkeddit data disagree?+

Yes, because they measure different things. Similarweb estimates visits and channel share for a site; Linkeddit records what AI engines named and cited for your buying questions. A rival can have large traffic and no AI presence, or the reverse. Ask Claude to show both and say which question each number answers.

What does Linkeddit measure that Similarweb does not?+

Linkeddit's own measurements: which brands ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews name and recommend on your buying questions, the domains they cite, weekly Google ranks with the AI Overview shown above them, and monitored competitor moves. It does not estimate site traffic, audiences or app downloads.

How do I see which competitors AI engines recommend instead of me?+

Ask Claude to call Linkeddit's competitor footprint and gaps tools. They list each competing domain with the keywords where it ranks above you, how many AI Overviews cited it and how often each engine cited it. Then ask Claude to add that domain's traffic from Similarweb to size the problem.
