ShipBob MCP with Claude: fulfillment data plus AI answer visibility

The ShipBob connector gives Claude live access to your orders, inventory, products and shipments, and it can act on them with your approval. It cannot tell you why a shopper never reached your store. Linkeddit supplies that side: where ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews recommend a competitor instead of you, and what competitors changed. Claude holds both and joins fulfillment facts to demand.

Setup guide

ShipBob connector

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, add ShipBob and paste the production URL, or use the sandbox URL first to test without touching real data. Claude Code registers it with claude mcp add.
  2. Sign in to ShipBob in the browser window and approve the consent screen. ShipBob asks you to create a channel for the AI client, and writes stay inside it.
  3. Ask your ShipBob account administrator to grant the MCP Read permission, and MCP Write only if Claude should act. Then add the Linkeddit connector at https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp.

What does the ShipBob connector do in Claude, and what does Linkeddit add?

The ShipBob connector is a hosted MCP server at https://api.shipbob.com/developer-api/mcp that lets Claude query and change a merchant's fulfillment data. Its Agent Index listing shows 72 tools: 45 reads, 12 writes and 6 transactional, with names such as ask-analytics, find-stalled-shipments, inventory-get-inventory-level and lookup-order. ShipBob's own post describes 70 plus read and write actions across 10 areas, and its docs say every call hits the live Developer API.

That is the supply side. It knows what you stocked and shipped. It does not know which buyers asked an answer engine for a recommendation and heard a competitor's name. Linkeddit measures that: Answer Radar records which brands the five engines name for your buying questions, and Compete tracks competitor moves. Both come with one plan at $60 a month, and Linkeddit changes nothing in ShipBob or in your store.

ShipBob frames its own pitch as an action layer. Its announcement says an AI without one is a smarter dashboard, and its post says usage grew 8.5 times in just over ten weeks, past 130,000 tool calls. Those are ShipBob's figures. The practical point for a merchant is that the connector can read and act, so the guardrails below matter.

What can Claude change in ShipBob, and what keeps it safe?

ShipBob's docs say MCP permissions are set by your account administrator in User Management, as MCP Read and MCP Write, and that the tools you see depend on them. Order, shipment, receiving and return writes only apply to records on the channel created at the consent screen, and calls against other channels return 403 or sometimes 404. Product and variant writes work at catalog level instead.

Claude on claude.ai, Claude Desktop and VS Code asks for confirmation before write operations, and Claude Code follows its own per-tool permission rules, according to ShipBob's setup page. Keep the Linkeddit prompts read-only and let any ShipBob write be a separate, approved step. Truto's ShipBob guide adds a technical warning worth keeping: bulk endpoints can return HTTP 200 while individual items fail, so ask Claude to read the per-item success flags and report any failure.

Can Claude fix an AI visibility gap through ShipBob?

No, and a page that pretended otherwise would mislead you. ShipBob fulfills orders. It does not publish product pages, blog posts or comparison pages, so there is nothing to publish through it. Its products-update-product-by-productid tool edits ShipBob's catalog record for a product, which is a fulfillment record rather than your storefront page.

Linkeddit still does the finding. On its test project, the latest measured runs put ChatGPT's presence rate at 16 of 18 admissible samples, with 15 recommending the brand, while Perplexity returned errors on all 21 samples and was reported as unmeasured rather than as zero. A merchant would read the same fields for their own brand: where an engine names a rival, which domains it cites, and which engine could not be measured. The fix then belongs in your storefront or content tool, and Claude can draft it for you to approve.

Can Claude track competitor pricing and shipping promises with ShipBob and Linkeddit?

Partly. Searches around ShipBob are mostly for alternatives and comparisons, and those pages are owned by competing fulfillment providers, review sites and forum threads, not by a merchant tracking a rival's change. For a merchant selling products, Linkeddit watches the competitors that matter: their pricing pages, changelogs and blogs, each signal with a priority and a reason. The latest week on the test project, 2026-10-26, held 4 signals, all low priority.

ShipBob supplies your own side of the comparison. billing-get-transaction-fees and billing-get-invoices show what you paid to fulfill, and orders-estimate-order and orders-estimatedeliverydate-order show the cost and delivery promise ShipBob quotes. A seller on Reddit described why the manual version fails: "Sometimes the price looks fine but it’s actually a different variant or the page hasn’t been updated properly." Linkeddit does not track a rival's carrier rates or run a repricing engine.

Can Claude use demand data to decide what to reorder in ShipBob?

Claude can lay the two side by side and you decide. inventory-get-inventory-level returns what is on hand and find-stalled-shipments and find-shipments-with-exception-or-hold return what is stuck. Linkeddit adds Google search and Search Console data for your own project, so a SKU whose search interest is rising and whose stock is low shows up in one table.

Keep the claim modest. Search interest is a signal, not a sales forecast, and a reorder is a purchasing decision with lead times and cash. Ask Claude to list candidates and its reasoning, then place any receiving order yourself or approve it. ShipBob's tutorial repository shows a scheduled inbound report that flagged 167 under-received units without anyone looking, which is the kind of exception check worth running before you reorder.

How do fulfillment facts help products show up in ChatGPT shopping answers?

Shipping, returns and availability are facts a shopping answer can use, and ShipBob holds the real ones. WorkDuo's ChatGPT shopping guide recommends accurate availability across site and feeds, a visible returns and shipping policy in plain language, and consistent details everywhere, and says mismatches reduce trust. Precis, an agency, reports that ChatGPT's carousels are built from the top 40 organic Google Shopping results, so feed accuracy comes first. Both are vendor views.

The workflow is a check, not a rewrite. Linkeddit lists the buying questions where an engine recommends someone else. Claude reads your delivery promise from ShipBob with orders-estimatedeliverydate-order and compares it with what the product page states. For the full product page workflow, see the Helium 10 hub at /integrations/helium-10, and for the Shopify version see /integrations/shopify/product-pages-chatgpt-shopping. ShipBob does not edit those pages.

An ecommerce SEO on Reddit asked: "How are you all tracking AI citations for ecommerce without paying for a black-box tool?" Linkeddit's answer is measured samples with the cited domains shown, not a score you cannot inspect.

Frequently asked questions

Does ShipBob have an MCP for Claude?+

Yes. ShipBob hosts an MCP server at https://api.shipbob.com/developer-api/mcp and lists a connector for Claude. You add it under Customize, Connectors, sign in to ShipBob and approve the consent screen. Its docs also cover Claude Code, and a sandbox URL lets you test without touching real data.

What can Claude do with the ShipBob connector?+

Claude can look up orders, check inventory levels, find stalled or held shipments, read billing and fees, and, with MCP Write permission, create or change records such as orders and receiving orders. The Agent Index lists 72 tools, 45 of them reads. Writes on orders and shipments stay inside the channel created at consent.

Is the ShipBob MCP free?+

The connector listing says it is included for every ShipBob merchant. The ShipBob pages read for this guide state no separate fee, so confirm the terms with ShipBob directly. Linkeddit is one plan at $60 a month and covers Answer Radar, Search, Compete and the connector, with no extra fee for pairing it with ShipBob.

Is it safe to let Claude change my ShipBob account?+

It is safer than it sounds, if you set it up carefully. ShipBob has an admin-controlled MCP Read and MCP Write permission, and order and shipment writes only apply to the channel created at consent. Claude also asks before write operations. Start with read-only access and add write for specific tasks.

What is the best tool to see whether AI engines recommend my ecommerce brand?+

Linkeddit, at $60 a month, measures it directly. It asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews your buying questions and lists where an engine names a competitor instead of you, with the domains cited. ShipBob does not measure answer engines, so use Linkeddit for visibility and ShipBob for fulfillment.

What is the best way to optimize product pages for ChatGPT shopping?+

Linkeddit shows which buying questions skip your products and which pages the engines cite, so you fix the right pages first. Then state attributes, delivery, returns and availability plainly, keep them consistent across feed and page, and re-measure the same questions. ShipBob can supply the delivery and stock facts for the check.

Can ShipBob or Claude edit my product pages?+

No. ShipBob edits its own catalog and fulfillment records, not your storefront pages. products-update-product-by-productid changes ShipBob's product record. To edit a Shopify product page from Claude you need the Shopify connector, and Linkeddit has a separate guide for that workflow at /integrations/shopify/product-pages-chatgpt-shopping.

Can Claude compare ShipBob with other 3PLs?+

It can compare what is published, but ShipBob's connector only holds your own data, such as invoices and quoted delivery dates. Linkeddit can watch other providers' pricing pages and blogs and grade the changes. Treat the output as research inputs, and ask each provider for a quote before you decide.

Does Linkeddit read my ShipBob data?+

No. Claude calls ShipBob with your sign-in and calls Linkeddit with yours, and joins the results in the conversation. Linkeddit supplies answer-engine, competitor and Google data about your brand and market, and never receives your orders, inventory or shipments from ShipBob.

Which clients work with the Linkeddit and ShipBob connectors?+

These guides are written for Claude and Claude Code. ShipBob's docs also describe other clients, but the Linkeddit workflows on these pages have only been written for Claude, so do not assume they carry over unchanged elsewhere. Use the sandbox URL first if you are testing write prompts.

How do I connect ShipBob to Claude Code?+

ShipBob's docs say to register the server from the terminal with claude mcp add using the HTTP transport and the ShipBob URL, then make a first tool call, which opens a browser for ShipBob sign-in and consent. Write tools need approval under Claude Code's permission rules. Add Linkeddit at https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp the same way.

Can Claude decide what to reorder from ShipBob automatically?+

Claude can list low-stock SKUs and compare them with demand signals, but it should not place the order unprompted. Ask for candidates with reasons, check lead times and cash, then approve any receiving order. Search interest from Linkeddit is a signal, not a sales forecast.
