Motion MCP with Claude: read your ad creative, then add competitor and AI answer data
The Motion MCP is the Motion Creative Analytics connector for Claude. Motion's help article describes it as a read only MCP server with 14 tools that returns Meta ad performance, creative transcripts, saved reports and competitor ad libraries. It does not edit anything. Add Linkeddit's connector and Claude can also see what competitors changed on their pricing, blog and changelog pages and where AI answer engines name them instead of you, which is the context a creative brief needs.

Connect both
Linkeddit connector
Add https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp as a connector and sign in. Claude Code: claude mcp add --transport http linkeddit https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp.
Motion Creative Analytics connector
- Check your Motion role first. Motion says only Owners, Admins and Collaborators can use the MCP, and Guest or Partner share users cannot.
- In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, choose Add Custom Connector, and paste https://projects.motionapp.com/mcp. On a Team or Enterprise Claude plan a workspace admin adds it first, as Motion's help article describes.
- Sign in to Motion when the browser opens. Connect at least one Meta data source in Motion, because the performance tools read synced data and can return nothing for a few hours after a new connection.
- Add the Linkeddit connector at https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp.

Is the Motion MCP read only?
Yes. Motion's help article says the MCP "is read-only" and "doesn't modify your account, creatives, or settings." The Agent Index lists its permissions as Read only, with 13 of its 14 tools classed as reads. The one other tool is submit_feedback, which sends a bug report or feature request to Motion's team and changes nothing in your ads.
That matters for planning. A read only connector can tell Claude what is working, but it cannot pause an ad, change a budget or upload a creative. Any change has to be made by you in Meta or Motion. The workflow on this page is therefore research and briefing, which is where a read only connector is strongest.
Motion is also Meta only today. Its help article says TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn are not available yet. If your spend is on Google Search, see the Google Ads guidance on our ads category page rather than assuming Motion covers it.
What can Claude read through the Motion connector?
Claude can call 14 tools in six groups, according to Motion's help article. For your own ads, get_creative_insights ranks creatives by spend, ROAS, CPA, CTR, hook rate and other metrics, get_creative_summary gives a plain-language digest of one ad, get_creative_transcript returns the spoken words of a video with timed segments, and get_demographic_breakdown splits results by age and gender.
For competitors, get_workspace_competitors lists the brands you track, search_brands finds any brand by name or domain, get_inspo_creatives returns a brand's ads with format, copy, headline, call to action, launch date and days active, and get_inspo_brand_context returns positioning, voice and messaging angles. Motion notes that competitor data has creative details but no performance metrics, because spend and ROAS exist only for your own ads.
The data is cached rather than live. Motion says this is deliberate, because live calls to ad platforms have been known to get accounts flagged. One viewer of a Claude and Meta ads tutorial voiced the same worry: "Will it impact negatively on Meta Ad Manager or running ads? it's still an AI." A read only connector on cached data is the safer shape for that fear.
What does Linkeddit add that Motion does not have?
Motion shows what a competitor's ads say. It does not show what the competitor just changed on their pricing page, shipped in a changelog or published on their blog, or where ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews recommend them instead of you. Linkeddit supplies that, for one plan at $60 a month, and writes no advice of its own.
On Linkeddit's test project, plausible.io, a read only run of compete_monitors_get returned five competitor monitors, each set to weekly with the next run on 2026-11-04. compete_signals_get returned five signals dated to the week of 2026-10-26, for example Simple Analytics publishing a post on the EU plan to move cookie consent into the browser, tagged messaging and low priority, with the source link attached. answer_gaps_get returned one open gap: not represented for "Umami vs Matomo for self-hosted analytics".
Put the two together in Claude and the creative question gets sharper. A competitor that has just pushed a privacy message on its blog, and runs ads leaning on the same angle in Motion's Inspo library, is a signal worth a test. A question where an AI engine recommends a rival over you tells you which claim your ad copy needs to prove.
How do I research competitor ads and keywords with Motion and Linkeddit?
Start with Motion for the ads and Linkeddit for the surrounding moves. Ask Claude to pull your top creatives for the last 30 days with get_creative_insights, then list the competitors you track with get_workspace_competitors and read their newest ads with get_inspo_creatives. Then ask Linkeddit for the week's competitor signals with compete_signals_get, and ask Claude to match each ad angle to a documented move.
For keyword research, Motion has no keyword tool, and Meta ads are not built on search terms. The Linkeddit side supplies keyword_research_get for scored keyword jobs, plus keyword_autocomplete and keyword_serp for live Google lookups. On the test project, keyword_research_get listed two completed jobs, one with 60 scored keywords. Claude can turn the winners into ad copy themes or a landing page brief. For a Google Ads view of competitors, see the ads category page, which compares tools that read auction data.
Keep the output as a brief. Ask for a table of angle, evidence, source link and a proposed test, and keep the writing of the creative itself with your team.
What should I check before acting on the brief?
Check dates and sources first. Linkeddit signals carry a week_of date and a source URL, and Motion's competitor ads carry a launch date and days active. A rival ad that has run for 90 days tells you more than one launched yesterday, and a signal from last month is not this week's move.
Then check the gaps in the data. Motion's performance tools can return a waiting status while a report builds, and a freshly connected account may need a few hours to sync. On the test project, the page_changes view returned three snapshots with content hashes, which is how Claude can say a page changed rather than guess. Say in your prompt that Claude must report empty results as empty, never fill them in.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Motion MCP read only?+
Yes. Motion's help article says the MCP is read only and does not modify your account, creatives or settings. The Agent Index agrees, listing 13 of its 14 tools as reads. The remaining tool, submit_feedback, sends a report to Motion's team. Claude can analyze your ads but cannot change them.
Can I connect Claude to Motion?+
Yes. In Claude, go to Settings, then Connectors, add a custom connector with the URL https://projects.motionapp.com/mcp, and sign in to Motion. On Team and Enterprise Claude plans a workspace admin adds it first. You need an Owner, Admin or Collaborator role in Motion, because Guest users cannot connect.
What can the Motion MCP do?+
It lets Claude read Meta ad performance, creative summaries, video transcripts, demographic splits, saved reports and your AI tags, plus competitor ad libraries and brand context. Motion lists 14 tools in six groups. It cannot edit ads, and competitor data shows creative details without spend or ROAS.
Does the Motion MCP work with Google Ads or TikTok?+
Not today. Motion's help article says its MCP supports Meta only, and that TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn are not available yet. If your spend is on Google Search, use a Google Ads connector for that data, and keep Motion for Meta creative analysis.
What is the best tool to research competitor ads and moves with Claude?+
Pair two connectors. Motion supplies competitor Meta ad libraries and brand context through get_inspo_creatives and get_inspo_brand_context. Linkeddit, at $60 a month, supplies what Motion lacks: competitor pricing, blog and changelog moves with a priority on each, plus where five AI engines name a rival instead of you.
What is the best way to turn competitor research into a creative brief in Claude?+
Connect Linkeddit and Motion, then ask Claude for a table of competitor angle, evidence, source link and proposed test. Linkeddit, at $60 a month, gives dated competitor signals and AI answer gaps with source links. Motion gives the competitor's actual ad copy and launch dates. Your team still writes the creative.
Does Linkeddit replace Motion?+
No. Linkeddit has no Meta ad data and does not analyze your creative. It supplies competitor moves, AI answer gaps, cited sources and Google ranks. Motion supplies your own ad performance and competitor ad libraries. They answer different questions, and Claude reads both in one conversation.
Who can use the Motion MCP?+
Motion says only Owners, Admins and Collaborators can authenticate. Guest access and Partner share access do not work. Each person signs in individually and sees only the data their Motion role allows. Motion also offers a 14-day trial if you sign up during the connection flow.
Why does the Motion MCP return nothing right after I connect?+
Motion's tools read cached, tagged data rather than calling ad platforms live, so a new account needs a few hours to sync. Motion says the Inspo tools for competitor and brand research work straight away. Some analytics tools also return a waiting status while a report builds, and Claude retries.
Does connecting Claude to my ad account risk getting it flagged?+
Motion states its MCP uses cached data instead of live ad platform calls, and that live calls have been known to get accounts flagged. The connector is read only. That is Motion's description of its own design, so check Meta's current rules for third party access before you connect an account you depend on.
Does Linkeddit send email or change my ads?+
No. Linkeddit supplies data only: competitor moves, AI answer gaps, cited sources and Google ranks. It does not write ads, edit campaigns or send messages. Claude reads the data and drafts the brief for your team, and any ad change is made by you in Meta or Motion.
Which clients work with Motion and Linkeddit together?+
This guide is written for Claude and Claude Code, where you can add both connectors and let Claude work across them. Motion's own help article also covers other MCP clients, but the workflow here has only been written for Claude, so do not assume it carries over unchanged elsewhere.
