AI search visibility monitoring for Microsoft 365 teams, with Claude

AI search visibility monitoring means tracking which brands ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews name when buyers ask. Microsoft's own tools watch AI use inside your tenant, which is a different job. The Microsoft 365 connector lets Claude search your SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook and Teams. Linkeddit supplies the public side: where the engines recommend a competitor instead of you, and what competitors shipped this week.

What is AI search visibility monitoring, and is Microsoft 365 the tool for it?

AI search visibility monitoring is measuring how often AI answer engines mention or recommend your brand for the questions your buyers ask. Microsoft 365 is not built for that. The pages that rank for this phrase, such as Microsoft Purview and the Microsoft security blog on AI observability, cover monitoring AI systems and AI activity inside an organization.

That is internal governance. Public visibility is the opposite question: what does ChatGPT say about you to someone outside your company. Linkeddit measures that across five engines. The Microsoft 365 connector then gives Claude access to your internal documents, mail, calendar and chats, so the findings can be set against what your team already knows.

What can the Microsoft 365 connector do, and is it read only?

By default it only reads. The Agent Index listing shows 7 tools, all reads: sharepoint_search, sharepoint_folder_search, outlook_email_search, outlook_calendar_search, chat_message_search, find_meeting_availability and read_resource. Claude's help article adds that admins can enable write tools that send email, manage calendar events, create and update files and send Teams messages.

Plan for read only. The workflows below end with Claude giving you a brief in the chat, which you paste or save yourself. Turning on write tools is an organization decision made by an administrator, and these pages do not depend on it. Linkeddit sends nothing into your tenant either way.

Viewers ask what the connector can build. A viewer commenting on a YouTube tutorial about connecting Claude to Microsoft 365, which has 43,000+ views, asked: "Can you build Power Automate flows with this connector?" The question shows why the read and write limits above matter.

How do I brief my team on competitors with Microsoft 365 and Claude?

Ask Claude to read the latest weekly brief from Linkeddit, then search your tenant for what the team has already said about those competitors. Linkeddit's compete_brief_get returns the weekly brief with the signals behind it. outlook_email_search, chat_message_search and sharepoint_search then show internal threads, chats and documents on the same names.

On Linkeddit's test project, plausible.io, the weekly brief for the week of 2026-10-26 covered 5 competitors with 2 high priority signals, 9 worth watching and 8 low signal moves. The high priority items were a Matomo security update and Fathom launching an AI assistant called Luna. Claude can compare those with internal notes and mark what is new, what the team already knew and what contradicts a sales claim.

Remember that Linkeddit cannot see your tenant and Claude only reads it. The brief is a draft in the chat. You decide what moves into a Word document or a Teams post.

Can I get competitor alerts through Microsoft 365?

Not as an automatic feed. Claude reads compete_signals_get for the high priority signals when you ask, and with the default read only connector it can only show them in the chat. If your administrator has enabled write tools, Claude can post to Teams or email the result, but it still acts only when you start it.

Linkeddit's side runs without you. All five competitor monitors on the test project run weekly, each with its next run on 2026-11-04. Use outlook_calendar_search to see when the team's next planning meeting is, and ask Claude to prepare the signals for that date. For instant alerts when a page changes, use a page monitoring tool. For a weekly decision, this fits.

How do I check that a change we shipped moved AI answers?

Find the change in your own records first, then ask Linkeddit to measure it. Claude can use sharepoint_search or outlook_email_search to find the date a page or document went live. Linkeddit's answer_verify_start then re-checks the targeted buying questions across the five engines, and answer_verify_get returns the outcome.

Starting a check spends credits, so Linkeddit returns an estimate first and Claude waits for your yes. The result is about movement only: improved, declined, mixed, no significant change or not comparable. Not measured yet does not mean no change.

On the test project, all three recent audit runs finished with status partial, so a review has to report that plainly. If Claude rounds a partial run up to a win, correct it before the result reaches a slide.

Is it safe to connect Claude to Microsoft 365?

Claude's help article says the connector works with a Microsoft Entra tenant tied to a Microsoft Business plan, and the Agent Index listing says it respects existing permissions and security controls. Setup needs an administrator: a Claude Owner on Team and Enterprise plans, and a Microsoft Entra Global Administrator for tenant consent.

Keep the prompt narrow. Tell Claude which sites, mailboxes or channels it may search, and never ask it to open more than the task needs. Linkeddit does not receive anything from your tenant. It only sends competitor and answer data to Claude, so the exposure question is about the Microsoft connector and your own policy.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to connect Claude to Microsoft 365?+

Setup needs administrators, and the Agent Index listing says the connector respects existing permissions and security controls. Claude's help article says a Microsoft Entra Global Administrator grants one time tenant consent, and on Team and Enterprise plans a Claude Owner enables the connector. Limit each prompt to the sites and mailboxes the task needs.

Is the Claude Microsoft 365 connector read only?+

By default, yes. The Agent Index listing shows 7 tools, all reads, covering SharePoint, Outlook mail and calendar, Teams chat, meeting availability and resource reading. Claude's help article says administrators can enable write tools for email, calendar, files and Teams messages, which is an organization decision.

Does Claude have a connector for Microsoft Outlook?+

Yes, through the Microsoft 365 connector. It includes outlook_email_search and outlook_calendar_search, alongside SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams search. It requires a work or school account. Claude's help article says personal outlook.com and hotmail.com accounts cannot connect, so check the account type first.

What is the best tool for AI search visibility monitoring?+

Linkeddit, at $60 a month, for public AI answers. It records which brands ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews name for your buying questions and shows the sources they cite. Microsoft 365 tools such as Purview cover AI activity inside your tenant, which is a separate job.

How is AI search visibility different from Microsoft Purview AI monitoring?+

Purview and similar Microsoft tools govern how your own people and systems use AI inside the tenant. AI search visibility looks outward: what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews say about your brand to buyers. Linkeddit covers the outward side, and Microsoft 365 holds the internal context.

What is the best way to brief my team on competitors from Microsoft 365?+

Connect Linkeddit and Microsoft 365 to Claude and run one saved prompt each week. Linkeddit, at $60 a month, supplies the graded competitor moves with a priority on each, and Claude searches your SharePoint, Outlook and Teams for what the team already knows. You then decide what to publish internally.

Can Claude post the competitor brief to Teams?+

Only if your administrator has enabled the connector's write tools, which Claude's help article says can send Teams messages. Out of the box the connector reads and does not write, so Claude gives you the brief in the chat and you post it yourself.

Can Claude run the weekly review automatically?+

Not by itself. Claude acts when it is started, so you run a saved prompt each week or start a session from a scheduler you already use. Linkeddit keeps competitor data current without you, with weekly monitors that run on their own clock.

Does Linkeddit read my Microsoft 365 data?+

No. Linkeddit supplies competitor moves, AI answer gaps, cited sources and Google ranks. Claude reads your tenant through the Microsoft 365 connector under your own sign in. Nothing from SharePoint, Outlook or Teams is sent to Linkeddit, so the only exposure question is the Microsoft connector and your own policy.

Which Microsoft accounts work with the connector?+

Work or school accounts on a Microsoft Entra tenant tied to a Microsoft Business plan. Claude's help article says personal accounts such as outlook.com and hotmail.com cannot connect. The connector is available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise Claude plans.

Can Claude check whether my change improved AI answers?+

Yes. Claude asks Linkeddit to re-check the questions the change targeted across the five engines and reads the outcome later. Linkeddit shows a credit estimate first, and the result is improved, declined, mixed or no significant change. A check that has not finished is reported as not measured yet.

Which clients work with the Linkeddit and Microsoft 365 connectors?+

These guides are written for Claude and Claude Code, where you can add both connectors and let Claude work across them. They have only been written for Claude, so do not assume the prompts carry over unchanged to other assistants.
