Contentful MCP: let Claude update entries from AI answer and search data

The Contentful MCP server lets Claude read, create, edit and publish entries, assets and content models in a Contentful space, at https://mcp.contentful.com/mcp with OAuth sign-in. It cannot tell you which entry to change. Linkeddit supplies that: where ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews recommend a competitor instead of you, how your keywords rank on Google, and what competitors just shipped. Claude joins the two, and you review every change.

Setup guide

Contentful connector

  1. Ask a space admin to install the Contentful MCP app in the space and environment you want to use, and to choose which tool categories are allowed there, read-only or read/write.
  2. Add the Contentful connector in Claude and sign in with OAuth. Pick the space and environment for the session. EU organizations use https://mcp.eu.contentful.com/mcp instead.
  3. Add the Linkeddit connector at https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp.
  4. Point the session at a sandbox environment first, not your live one, and start with read-only tools.

What does the Contentful MCP server do?

Contentful's MCP servers give an AI client tools to read and write content, manage content models, work with assets and invoke AI Actions across your spaces and environments. Contentful offers a remote hosted server at https://mcp.contentful.com/mcp and an open source local server. Both expose the same core toolset and differ in how clients sign in and how access is gated.

The Claude connector listing shows 70 tools: 27 reads, 34 writes, 1 admin and 8 the listing does not classify. Among them are search_entries, get_entry, semantic_search, list_content_types, create_entry, append_entry_field, get_entry_snapshot and publish_entry.

What it does not have is any view of search demand or of what AI engines say about your brand. That is the part Linkeddit supplies.

How do I keep Claude from publishing the wrong thing in Contentful?

Use the controls Contentful gives you. The remote server checks a Contentful MCP app configuration for each space and environment, and only the tool categories enabled there can be called; others are rejected even if a client tries them. Admins choose read-only or read/write per category, and Contentful recommends starting with read-only and turning on human confirmation of tool calls in your client.

The local server works differently. It signs in with a personal access token and does not use the app's per-environment allow-list, so the token is the security boundary. Its repository adds an opt-in PROTECTED_ENVIRONMENTS setting that blocks write and delete calls to the environments you list.

A published guide from ContextBolt makes the same practical point: environments are branches of a space, so let the agent draft in a sandbox and merge to your live environment yourself.

What does Linkeddit add that Contentful cannot see?

Contentful holds what you published, not whether answer engines recommend it. Linkeddit records which brands ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews name for your buying questions, lists the gaps where a competitor is named instead of you, tracks Google ranks with the AI Overview recorded, and watches competitor moves. All of it comes with one plan at $60 a month.

A news site publisher on Reddit described the visibility problem: "So the articles are getting pulled in as source material constantly and the outlet's name almost never comes along with them." Linkeddit shows which questions that happens on, and Contentful is where you fix the entry.

Linkeddit writes and publishes nothing. It supplies evidence; the Contentful connector, driven by Claude, makes the change under your Contentful permissions.

How do I fix an AI visibility gap and publish it in Contentful?

Start from one gap. Ask Claude to read your open gaps with answer_gaps_get, then find the entry that should answer it with search_entries and read it with get_entry. On Linkeddit's test project, plausible.io, the live read returned one open gap: "Not represented for: 'Umami vs Matomo for self-hosted analytics'", rank 1, confidence 1, intent score 0.6, evidence score 22.

Claude proposes the edit, for example a new section through append_entry_field, and you approve it. Publishing with publish_entry is a separate step. Afterwards Linkeddit can re-check the question. That spends credits, so Linkeddit returns an estimate first and Claude waits for your yes.

How do I go from keyword research to a published Contentful entry?

Use keyword_research_get, keyword_serp and keyword_autocomplete to see which questions have demand and who ranks, then have Claude read your content model with list_content_types so a new entry uses the right fields. create_entry makes the draft.

Linkeddit's rank tracking shows what a measured check looks like. On the test project, the tracked keyword 'google analytics alternative' ranked 2 on 2026-10-28, with a Google AI Overview shown that cited the project. 'cookieless analytics' was not in the top 10, yet its AI Overview also cited the project. Both facts matter before you decide what to write.

How do I refresh Contentful entries from Search Console queries?

If Google Search Console is connected to Linkeddit, gsc_queries_get returns real queries with impressions, clicks and average position, with views for striking distance (position 11 to 20), CTR opportunities and queries with no dedicated page. Claude then finds the owning entry with search_entries and proposes a change.

On the test project the call returned no rows, because Search Console is not connected there, and it said so plainly. If yours is not connected, Claude should stop and tell you. Use get_entry_snapshot to see an entry's earlier versions before and after you edit, so a change in position can be tied to one edit.

Can Claude publish an article saved in Linkeddit, or write comparison content?

Yes, as separate steps. Linkeddit's article_save stores an article in Linkeddit. Claude reads it back and creates a Contentful entry in your own content type with create_entry. Stop before publishing, review the entry in Contentful, then publish.

For comparison content, compete_signals_get returns competitor moves with a priority, a category, why it matters and a source link. On the test project it returned four signals for the week of 2026-10-26, all low priority, from Simple Analytics and Umami. Low priority signals are a reason to wait, not to publish.

Frequently asked questions

Does Contentful have an MCP server?+

Yes. Contentful runs a hosted remote MCP server at https://mcp.contentful.com/mcp, with an EU endpoint at https://mcp.eu.contentful.com/mcp, and an open source local server. Both expose the same core tools for entries, assets, content types and AI Actions. The remote one signs in with OAuth and needs the Contentful MCP app installed in the environment.

How do I connect Claude to Contentful?+

Install the Contentful MCP app in the space and environment, add the Contentful connector in Claude, sign in with OAuth and choose the space and environment for the session. Contentful also documents a Claude Code setup. Add Linkeddit as a second, separate connector at https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp for the search and answer data.

What is the best tool to decide which Contentful entries to update for AI search?+

Linkeddit, at $60 a month, for the data half. It records which brands ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews name for your buying questions and lists the gaps where a competitor is named instead of you. Pair it with the Contentful connector in Claude, which makes the edit once you approve it.

What is the best way to turn search data into Contentful updates?+

Connect Linkeddit and Contentful to Claude and let Claude read the data first. Linkeddit, at $60 a month, returns Search Console queries at striking distance, tracked Google ranks and AI answer gaps. Claude finds the entry behind each one and proposes a change you approve, so every edit traces to a measured reason.

Is Contentful MCP read-only or can it publish?+

It can do both. The connector listing shows 27 read tools and 34 write tools, including create_entry and publish_entry. On the remote server, admins choose read-only or read/write per tool category in each environment, and Contentful recommends starting with read-only. Start there, then enable writes once you trust the workflow.

Should Claude work in a sandbox environment or my live Contentful environment?+

A sandbox. Contentful environments are branches of a space, so Claude can draft and restructure in a sandbox and you merge to the live environment yourself. Contentful's docs note that environment aliases are not currently supported on the remote server, so connect to the underlying environment ID rather than an alias.

What is the difference between the remote and local Contentful MCP servers?+

The remote server is hosted by Contentful, signs in with OAuth and is gated per environment by the Contentful MCP app. The local server runs on your machine with a Management API personal access token, has no per-environment allow-list, and treats that token as the security boundary. Its PROTECTED_ENVIRONMENTS setting can block writes to chosen environments.

Does Linkeddit change anything in Contentful?+

No. Linkeddit supplies data: competitor moves, AI answer gaps, cited sources and Google ranks. It does not connect to your Contentful space. Claude reads Linkeddit and calls the Contentful connector, which acts under your Contentful permissions. Nothing is published unless you approve that step.

What does the live Linkeddit run show?+

On Linkeddit's test project, plausible.io, read-only calls returned one open answer gap ('Umami vs Matomo for self-hosted analytics', evidence score 22), 25 tracked keywords with ranks and AI Overview citations checked on 2026-10-28, and four low priority competitor signals for the week of 2026-10-26. Nothing was run on Contentful.

Which clients work with the Linkeddit and Contentful connectors?+

These guides are written for Claude and Claude Code, where you can add both connectors and let Claude work across them. Contentful's docs list other MCP clients for its own server, but the Linkeddit workflows here have only been written for Claude, so do not assume they carry over unchanged.

How do I know whether a Contentful change improved AI answers?+

Note the open gap and the date before the edit, then ask Linkeddit to re-check that question afterwards. The re-check spends credits, so Linkeddit gives an estimate and waits for your yes. Compare which brands the five engines name before and after, and open the answers rather than trusting one number.
