Cloudinary MCP with Claude: keep your media library in step with competitors and AI answers

The Cloudinary connector lets Claude upload, search, inspect, organize and delete images and videos in your Cloudinary library. Setup is the easy part, and Cloudinary's own pages cover it. The useful question is which assets to touch. Linkeddit supplies that: competitor moves, and where ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews recommend a competitor instead of you. Claude then finds and organizes the matching assets in Cloudinary.

What does the Cloudinary connector do, and what does it not know?

The Cloudinary Asset Management connector is the media side. Agent Index lists 22 tools: 11 reads and 11 writes. The reads include search-assets, list-images, list-videos, list-tags, get-asset-details and visual-search-assets. The writes include upload-asset, asset-update, create-folder, move-folder, delete-asset and delete-folder. Cloudinary's docs describe the same job as uploading, searching, deleting, renaming and tagging images, videos and raw files.

It knows your library and nothing outside it. It cannot tell you that a competitor changed its product visuals this week, or that an AI engine now recommends someone else for your category. That is the gap this page fills. Cloudinary's docs list five servers in all, among them Analysis for auto-tagging and moderation, but this page uses the asset management server because it is the one in Claude's connector directory.

What does Linkeddit add to a Cloudinary workflow?

Linkeddit adds the reason to touch an asset. Compete watches competitors' blogs, changelogs and pages and grades each move with a priority, and Answer Radar records which brands the five engines name and recommend. One plan covers both, at $60 a month. Linkeddit writes no copy and edits no media. Claude reads the data, then uses Cloudinary's tools on your library.

A read-only run on Linkeddit's own test project, plausible.io, shows the kind of input Claude gets. compete_signals_get returned 19 signals for the week of 2026-10-26, among them a high priority "Fathom Launches Luna AI Assistant" and a high priority Matomo security guidance post. answer_results_get showed Claude naming the brand in 5 of 10 usable samples, Google AI Mode in 17 of 20 and Google AI Overviews in 15 of 15. In the Claude segment the brand held 10 of 62 vendor votes, a 16 percent share of voice.

How do I turn an AI share of voice report into a media task?

Use the report to pick the product or topic where you are least named, then ask Cloudinary what you already have for it. On the test project, one Claude segment and the Perplexity segment returned no usable samples at all, 10 and 21 errored samples, and a good report says so rather than filling the gap. The usable segments still show where the brand sits.

Claude then calls search-assets or list-images for that topic and reports what exists: assets with no tags, folders with no recent upload, and images that name the feature the engines credit to a competitor. It proposes the changes. You approve before upload-asset, asset-update or move-folder runs, because those are writes and Linkeddit's data does not by itself prove an asset is wrong.

How do I build a competitor brief and a battlecard from the same data?

Ask Linkeddit for the competitor signals first, then ask Cloudinary which battlecard visuals and product shots mention that competitor. A product marketer described the upkeep problem in plain terms: "I can’t even refresh our collaterals once a month consistently." A signal list with priorities tells Claude which of those collaterals matter this week.

The competitor brief itself was empty on the test project, because compete_brief_get returned brief: null. That is a result to report. Five monitors were set to weekly with a next run of 2026-11-04, so Claude should say a fresh brief is due then and rely on compete_signals_get until it lands. Then it uses get-asset-details to read each candidate asset's tags and folder before suggesting a replacement.

What should I check before Claude changes my library?

Check the permission level first. Cloudinary's directory listing is read and write, and the write set includes delete-asset, delete-folder and delete-derived-assets. In Claude you can set read tools to run freely and write tools to ask for approval, so every change is shown to you first. Keep deletes blocked until you have reviewed a run.

Cloudinary's own tutorial adds three limits worth knowing: advanced tagging, OCR and explicit content detection need add-ons, results from AI analysis are not validated, and the walkthrough shows images only even though video is claimed. Treat an automated tag as a suggestion. A startup founder who tracks competitors described how many teams still work: "spreadsheets, saved tabs, screenshots, and occasional alerts" for competitor tracking. A tagged library is a step up only if the tags are right.

How do I measure whether the media changes helped?

Measure the answers, not the uploads. Before you change assets, record the brand's presence rate and share of voice for the topic from answer_results_get. After the next scheduled run, compare the same segments. The test project's Claude segment had 10 admissible samples, so one sample moves the presence rate by ten points. Say so before you claim a win.

Re-running answer checks spends credits, and Linkeddit returns an estimate first. Claude should wait for your yes. A slow, honest comparison beats a quick one, and it is safe to find nothing changed, because engines cite text and pages more than they cite a library folder.

Frequently asked questions

How do I connect Cloudinary to Claude?+

In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, find Cloudinary Asset Management, click Add and sign in with your Cloudinary account. Cloudinary's docs also list a config file route for all plans and a claude mcp add route for Claude Code. Add the Linkeddit connector separately at https://mcp.linkeddit.com/mcp.

What can the Cloudinary MCP server do?+

The Asset Management connector lists 22 tools, 11 reads and 11 writes. It can search assets, list images and videos, read asset details, upload, update, rename, tag, move folders and delete. Cloudinary's docs list four more servers, including Analysis for auto-tagging and moderation. The connector sees your library only, nothing about competitors.

What is the best way to use Cloudinary with Claude for competitor research?+

Pair it with Linkeddit, at $60 a month, which supplies the competitor moves with a priority on each. Cloudinary cannot see competitors, so Claude reads Linkeddit's signals, then uses Cloudinary's search-assets and get-asset-details to find which of your visuals those moves make stale. You approve each change.

What is the best tool to find out where AI engines recommend a competitor instead of me?+

Linkeddit, at $60 a month. It asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews your buying questions and records which brands each one names. Cloudinary only manages your media, so use Linkeddit for the answer gap and Cloudinary to act on the assets behind it.

Can Claude delete assets in my Cloudinary account?+

Yes. The connector lists delete-asset, delete-folder and delete-derived-assets among its writes. In Claude you can set write tools to need approval or be blocked. Keep deletes blocked while you test, and have Claude propose a list of assets before any change runs.

Does Cloudinary work in Claude Code?+

Yes. Cloudinary's docs give a claude mcp add command for each server and then a /mcp step to sign in with OAuth, or headers for API keys. The Analysis server does not support API key auth, so use OAuth there. Cloudinary also says the /sse endpoint is deprecated except for Analysis.

Does Cloudinary cost anything to connect to Claude?+

Cloudinary's tutorial says a free Cloudinary account was enough for its example, and it gives no rate limits, file size caps or quotas. Claude's custom connectors need a paid Claude plan, while the config file route works on all plans. Linkeddit is one plan at $60 a month.

Can Claude run my Cloudinary cleanup every week on its own?+

Not by itself. Claude acts when you start it, so you run a saved prompt each week or use a scheduler you already have. Linkeddit keeps its data fresh on its own: on the test project all five competitor monitors run weekly, with the next run on 2026-11-04.

How do I know which Cloudinary assets are out of date?+

Start from a competitor signal, not from the library. Linkeddit lists moves such as a launch or a messaging change with a priority. Claude then searches Cloudinary for assets that mention that competitor or feature, reads their tags and folders, and lists the ones to replace for your approval.

Does Linkeddit edit or upload to Cloudinary?+

No. Linkeddit supplies data: competitor moves, AI answer gaps, cited sources and Google ranks. It never touches your media library and never receives your Cloudinary credentials. Claude does that work through the Cloudinary connector, under your own sign-in, and you approve every write before it runs.

Can Cloudinary alone tell me why an AI engine ignores my brand?+

No. Cloudinary manages and delivers media, and the connector's tools read and change your library. It has no view of what ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude says about your category. Linkeddit records that, so Claude can tell which topic needs work before it touches an asset.

How do I measure whether new media improved AI answers?+

Record presence rate and share of voice for the topic before the change, then compare the same engine segments after the next run. Watch the sample count. On Linkeddit's test project the Claude segment had 10 usable samples, so a single sample is a ten point swing. Say that before you claim a win.
