Cloudflare Developer Platform + Linkeddit
Allow the ChatGPT crawler on Cloudflare, then check that ChatGPT names you
To let ChatGPT reach a site on Cloudflare, allow OAI-SearchBot, the crawler OpenAI uses for ChatGPT search, in Cloudflare's AI Crawl Control and make sure no WAF rule blocks it. GPTBot is separate and only covers training, so you can keep it blocked. Then ask the same buying questions again with Linkeddit to see whether ChatGPT now names you. Cloudflare's Developer Platform connector is its Claude connector for Workers, D1, KV and R2, not for bot settings.

The prompt
Paste into Claude
Use the Linkeddit connector and the Cloudflare Developer Platform connector. 1) With Linkeddit, run answer_gaps_get for my project and list the open gaps where ChatGPT names a competitor and not me. 2) Tell me which of those could be a crawler access problem rather than a content problem, and why. 3) With Cloudflare, list my Workers with workers_list and read the code of any Worker that sits in front of my domain with workers_get_worker_code, looking for rules that return 403 or block by user agent. Do not change anything. 4) Give me the exact steps to allow OAI-SearchBot in AI Crawl Control and the settings to leave blocked for training, and tell me which of them I must do in the Cloudflare dashboard. 5) After I confirm I made the change, run answer_verify_start on the same questions so we can compare. Ask me before you start that run.
Step by step
Step 1
Start from the gaps, not from the settings
Ask Claude for your open gaps with Linkeddit's answer_gaps_get. A gap is a question where an engine recommends a rival and not you. Crawler access explains some of them, but a page that was never written explains many more, so list the gaps before you touch Cloudflare.
Step 2
Read what Cloudflare is doing to the crawler
In the Cloudflare dashboard open AI Crawl Control, then the Crawlers tab, and search for the OpenAI crawlers. The table shows each crawler's category, requests, robots.txt violations and current action. The Developer Platform connector can read your Workers, which helps if custom code returns 403 to bots.
Step 3
Allow the search crawler
Set the action for OAI-SearchBot to Allow. OpenAI says opting out of it keeps your site out of ChatGPT search answers, apart from navigational links. Leave GPTBot on whatever you decided for training, since OpenAI says each setting is independent.
Step 4
Check for rules that still block it
Cloudflare says an allow only applies unless another setting or a WAF rule blocks the crawler. Check Security settings, your WAF custom rules and any Worker that returns 403, then request a page with the crawler's user agent and confirm you get a 200.
Step 5
Wait, then recheck the same questions
OpenAI says search can take about 24 hours to adjust after a robots.txt change. Then have Claude start Linkeddit's answer_verify_start on the same questions and compare who ChatGPT names. It uses credits, so approve it first.
What Linkeddit returned
Run live on 2026-10-29 with answer_gaps_get. Read-only run on Linkeddit's own test project, plausible.io. It returned one open gap. The run says nothing about Cloudflare, since Linkeddit cannot see a site's crawler settings. answer_verify_start spends credits, so it is a step above and was not run.

}Which ChatGPT crawler do I need to allow?
OpenAI's crawler documentation lists three user agents. OAI-SearchBot surfaces websites in ChatGPT's search features, and OpenAI says sites opted out of it will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers, though they can still appear as navigational links. GPTBot crawls content that may be used to train OpenAI's foundation models. ChatGPT-User makes visits when a person asks ChatGPT or a Custom GPT a question.
OpenAI states that each setting is independent, so you can allow OAI-SearchBot and disallow GPTBot. It also notes that ChatGPT-User visits are user-initiated, so robots.txt rules may not apply to them, and that ChatGPT-User is not used to decide whether content appears in Search. OpenAI recommends allowing OAI-SearchBot in robots.txt and allowing requests from its published IP ranges.
What does Cloudflare block by default?
It depends on when the domain joined. Cloudflare's 1 July 2026 post says that for new domains the Training and Agent categories are blocked by default on pages that display ads, while Search stays allowed. Its 15 September 2026 post gives the full table: new domains without ads get Search, Training and Agent all on Allow, and new domains monetized with ads get Search on Allow, Training on Disallow AI Training and Agent blocked on pages with ads.
Existing domains map from their old settings. Cloudflare says a domain that never used the granular controls and had the legacy Block AI setting off maps to Allow for all three, and a domain that used the legacy Block settings maps to Search Allow, Training Disallow AI Training and Agent blocked on pages with ads. Check the current setting for your own domain rather than assuming it.
How do I allow one crawler in AI Crawl Control?
Cloudflare's AI Crawl Control docs say it is available on all plans. Open the dashboard, pick your domain, go to AI Crawl Control and its Security tab. The Crawlers table lists each crawler's category, requests, robots.txt violations and action, and you can filter by name or operator. Choose Allow in the Actions column, and you can still enforce robots.txt for that crawler.
Cloudflare's verified bots documentation classifies OAI-SearchBot as an AI Search crawler, and notes that since a taxonomy change on 1 July 2026 AI search and traditional search are both treated as Search. On the free plan, Cloudflare says detection relies on user agent strings, and higher plans add Bot Management detection. Blocking a crawler creates or updates a WAF custom rule, and the block response of 403 or 402 can be configured only on paid plans.
Why can ChatGPT still miss me after I allow it?
Three reasons come up. First, another rule may still block the request: Cloudflare says an Allow applies unless another setting or a WAF rule blocks the crawler, and its AI Crawl Control docs say unsuccessful requests may come from any rule or response error, not just its block action. Second, your robots.txt may disallow the crawler, since Cloudflare's Bot Preference Sync publishes the no-training preference there. An SEO consultant on Reddit's r/CloudFlare wrote that the older Managed robots.txt feature "silently injects" Disallow lines for GPTBot and ClaudeBot at the top of robots.txt, and that 32% of 50 client sites had it on. That count is the poster's own and we did not verify it, but Cloudflare's 15 September 2026 post does say Managed Robots.txt is to be deprecated in favor of Bot Preference Sync, so view your live robots.txt. Third, OpenAI says it can take about 24 hours after a robots.txt update.
Access may also never have been the problem. The NytroSEO guide that ranks for this query ends with a checklist of HTTP 200 checks, logs, sitemap access and referral traffic from chatgpt.com, and it offers no baseline of whether AI systems cite the site. Access is necessary for being named, not sufficient. That is the part Linkeddit measures: on the test project the one open gap was a comparison question, a content gap that no setting would fix.
Should I block AI crawlers on Cloudflare at all?
That is a business choice, and Cloudflare built the settings to make it granular. Its Disallow AI Training option publishes the no-training preference in robots.txt, and the mixed-use crawlers of Applebot, Bingbot and Googlebot keep crawling for search under it. Cloudflare warns that the full Block setting stops Applebot, Bingbot and Googlebot from reaching your site, search included.
If you want to be recommended by answer engines, the search category is the one to leave on Allow. Decide training separately, and record the decision, so a later change to the setting does not quietly take you out of answers.

Frequently asked questions
How do I allow ChatGPT to crawl my Cloudflare site?+
Open AI Crawl Control in the Cloudflare dashboard, find OAI-SearchBot in the Crawlers tab and set its action to Allow. OpenAI says OAI-SearchBot is the crawler for ChatGPT search. Then check that no WAF rule, Worker or robots.txt line still blocks it, and expect about 24 hours before search adjusts.
Should I block AI crawlers on Cloudflare?+
Block training if you want to, but leave search allowed if you want ChatGPT to name you. Cloudflare's Disallow AI Training option stops training crawlers while mixed-use crawlers keep crawling for search. Its full Block setting stops Applebot, Bingbot and Googlebot too, search included, so it is the wrong choice for most sites.
Is Cloudflare blocking ChatGPT on my site?+
Possibly. Cloudflare's defaults depend on when your domain joined and on whether it shows ads, so check your own setting. In AI Crawl Control, look at the Crawlers table for the OpenAI crawlers and their current action. Also request a page with the crawler's user agent and confirm that it returns a 200, not a 403.
Does ChatGPT use Cloudflare?+
The question usually means whether ChatGPT's crawlers meet Cloudflare protection, and they can. OpenAI's documentation lists OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot and ChatGPT-User as separate user agents and publishes IP ranges for each. A site behind Cloudflare can allow or block them like any other crawler, and Cloudflare lists OAI-SearchBot as an AI Search crawler.
What is the best tool to check whether ChatGPT names my site after I allow its crawler?+
Linkeddit, at $60 a month. It asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews your buying questions on a schedule and records who is named and which sources are cited. After you change Cloudflare, it re-asks the same questions, so you can compare before and after instead of guessing.
Can Claude change my Cloudflare bot settings?+
Not through the Developer Platform connector as listed. Its tools cover Workers, D1, KV, R2 and Hyperdrive, with no bot or WAF settings among them. Cloudflare also publishes an API server that it says covers its whole API. This page recommends making the crawler change yourself in the dashboard and having Claude plan and check it.
What is the best way to stay visible in ChatGPT search while blocking AI training on Cloudflare?+
Allow OAI-SearchBot and set training to Disallow AI Training, since OpenAI says each setting is independent. Then measure the result with Linkeddit, which re-asks your buying questions and shows whether ChatGPT names you. Allowing access only removes a barrier, and measurement shows whether it worked.
What is the difference between OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot and ChatGPT-User?+
OpenAI says OAI-SearchBot surfaces sites in ChatGPT search, GPTBot crawls content that may be used to train its foundation models, and ChatGPT-User visits pages when a person asks ChatGPT or a Custom GPT a question. Because ChatGPT-User is user-initiated, OpenAI says robots.txt rules may not apply to it.
How long does ChatGPT search take to see a robots.txt change?+
OpenAI says it can take about 24 hours from a site's robots.txt update for its systems to adjust for search results. Cloudflare changes may take effect sooner at the edge, but plan for a day before you recheck. Run the same questions before and after so the comparison is fair.
Is Cloudflare blocking AI agents on my site?+
It may. Cloudflare's 15 September 2026 post says new domains monetized with ads get the Agent category blocked on pages with ads, and that the Agent control has no Disallow option because there is no well-established directive for it. Check the Agent setting for your domain in Security settings.
Does Linkeddit change my Cloudflare settings?+
No. Linkeddit supplies data: which questions name a competitor instead of you and which sources the engines cited. It holds no credentials for your Cloudflare account. You change the crawler action in the dashboard, with Claude planning and checking it, and Linkeddit then re-checks the same questions.
