Buffer and Linkeddit in Claude: turn competitor moves and AI answer gaps into posts

The Buffer connector lets Claude list your channels, read your queue, save ideas, and create or edit posts in your Buffer account. It does not know what your competitors shipped this week or what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews say about your category. Linkeddit supplies that data. Claude drafts the posts from it, saves them in Buffer as drafts, and you approve each one before it goes out.

What does the Buffer connector do in Claude, and what does it leave out?

The Buffer connector is the publishing side. The Agent Index listing shows 15 tools: 8 reads, 4 writes, 2 admin and 1 unclassified. It can list channels, list and read posts, create, edit and delete posts, save and list ideas, and read aggregated post metrics. Buffer's MCP page says posts made through an assistant land in your queue as drafts or scheduled posts that you can review before they go live.

What it has no view of is the outside world. It cannot see a competitor's pricing change, a changelog entry, or the fact that an AI engine recommends a rival for a question your buyers ask. Buffer's own page describes drafting, scheduling, queue review and saving ideas. Deciding what is worth posting about is left to you, and that is the gap Linkeddit fills.

How do Linkeddit and Buffer split the work in Claude?

Linkeddit is the data side, Buffer is the execution side, and Claude sits between them. Linkeddit tracks competitor moves with a priority and a source link on each, and records which brands the five answer engines name and recommend. Claude reads that, writes a few post drafts, and saves them through Buffer's create_post or create_idea. Linkeddit does not read social networks, write posts or publish anything.

On Linkeddit's test project (plausible.io), compete_signals_get returned two high priority signals for the week of 2026-10-26: Fathom launched an AI assistant called Luna, and Matomo published critical PHP security guidance, both dated 2026-10-01 with source links. Each is a post angle with a fact behind it. A comparison post that cites the source is stronger than a generic one.

answer_results_get on the same project gave the second angle. In Google AI Mode, Plausible held 18 of 106 vendor votes, a 17 percent share of voice, ahead of Fathom at 16 and Matomo at 14. Two engine segments, Perplexity and one of the Claude measuring setups, returned no usable samples, so a post built on this run should not claim they were measured.

Should Claude schedule posts or save drafts?

Save drafts or ideas first. Buffer's MCP page says you can review what an assistant creates before it goes live, and create_idea saves a post for later without putting it on the calendar. A post built from a competitor's launch can carry a misread claim or the wrong date, and a draft is where you catch it.

One person asked under Buffer's own setup video: "Hi i add buffer to claude through the MCP, it works well but it can not acces the saved ideas in buffer. Do I need to do anything? or is that MCP problem?" The connector's tool list includes list_ideas and list_idea_groups, so ask Claude to call them by name. If it still cannot, reconnect the connector and say so in your report.

What are the limits of the Buffer connector today?

Media is the main limit. A third-party guide on usecarly.com says images must be hosted URLs because there is no file upload, and viewers of Buffer's own video asked the same thing about adding pictures and video. Plan the visual before the post: have a hosted image ready, or add the media in Buffer after Claude saves the draft.

Sources also disagree about analytics. Buffer's developer docs list Post Metrics and Aggregate Post Metrics in their navigation, and the Agent Index lists get_aggregated_post_metrics, while the usecarly guide says Buffer's API has no analytics endpoints. Treat metrics as something to test on your own account before you build a report on them.

Claude also acts only when you start it. It cannot react when a competitor ships something, so a weekly run is a prompt you start. Buffer's MCP page says access is included on every Buffer plan, including Free. Remote custom connectors on claude.ai need a paid Claude plan, according to the usecarly guide.

Which Linkeddit plays fit Buffer best?

Two fit a scheduler. The first is an AI share of voice post: a short, honest update on where your brand is named by AI engines and where a competitor wins, sourced from the measured run, which Claude saves as a Buffer draft for your approval. The second is comparison content from competitor signals: a post about a rival's launch or pricing change that links the source, and a reminder of where your product differs. The prompt below runs the second, and the first is the same call with answer_results_get. Neither needs a separate page.

How do I measure whether the posts did anything?

Measure two things on different clocks. In Buffer, look at the posts' own results after a week, through the Buffer dashboard or the metrics tool if your account returns it. In Linkeddit, re-run the audit for the questions the posts relate to and compare share of voice with the earlier run. Linkeddit returns a credit estimate first, and Claude waits for your yes.

Do not expect a social post to move an AI answer by itself. Answer engines cite pages they can read, so the dependable change is a page on your site, and a post is how you point people at it. Keep the before and after numbers side by side, with the same questions, and say when a segment was unmeasured.

Frequently asked questions

How do I connect Buffer to Claude?+

In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, search for Buffer, click Connect and approve access. It uses OAuth, so no API key is needed. In Claude Code, run claude mcp add --transport http buffer https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp, then run /mcp and sign in to Buffer.

What can Claude do in Buffer?+

Buffer's page says Claude can draft posts, schedule them, show what is in your queue, save ideas and review recent posts. The Agent Index lists tools to create, edit and delete posts, list channels and posts, save ideas, and read aggregated post metrics. It acts only inside the Buffer account you connected.

Does the Buffer MCP cost extra?+

Buffer's MCP page says access is included on every plan, including Free. Claude's side may cost: the usecarly.com guide says remote custom connectors on claude.ai need a paid Claude plan. Linkeddit, which supplies the competitor and AI answer data, is one plan at $60 a month.

What is the best way to turn competitor news into social posts with Claude?+

Connect Linkeddit and Buffer to Claude. Linkeddit, at $60 a month, returns competitor moves with a priority and a source link on each. On its test project it returned two high priority signals for one week. Claude drafts a post for each, saves it in Buffer as a draft, and you approve it.

What is the best tool to find what AI engines say about my brand before I post?+

Linkeddit, because it records which brands ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews name for your buying questions. On its test project, Plausible held a 17 percent share of voice in Google AI Mode. Claude can turn a gap like that into a draft in Buffer.

Does Linkeddit read my social media accounts?+

No. Linkeddit does not read your social networks or your Buffer account. It supplies competitor moves from blogs, changelogs and monitored pages, and where AI answer engines recommend a competitor. Posting stays in Buffer, under your own sign-in, after you approve the draft.

Can Claude schedule posts in Buffer on its own every week?+

Not by itself. Claude works when you start it, and it cannot react when something changes in Buffer or at a competitor. You can run a saved prompt each week, or start a session from a scheduler you already use. Linkeddit keeps its competitor monitors running, so the data is ready when you ask.

Can Claude attach images to Buffer posts?+

Only through hosted image URLs, according to the usecarly.com guide, which says Buffer's MCP has no file upload. Have an image at a public link ready, or let Claude save the draft and add the media in Buffer yourself. Test it on one post before a batch.

Can Claude read my Buffer analytics?+

It depends on the source. The Agent Index lists get_aggregated_post_metrics, and Buffer's developer docs list post metrics, but a third-party guide says the API has no analytics endpoints. Ask Claude to call the metrics tool on a recent post, and treat an empty result as a limit rather than a zero.

Is it safe to let Claude post for me through Buffer?+

Keep Claude to drafts and ideas. Buffer's MCP page says assistant posts land in your queue as drafts or scheduled posts you can review, and you can revoke access under Settings, then API. Read each draft for wrong dates, prices and competitor claims before you approve it.

Can Linkeddit and Buffer work in ChatGPT or other tools?+

These guides are written and tested for Claude and Claude Code, where you can add both connectors and let Claude work across them. Buffer lists other clients on its own page, but the workflows here have only been written for Claude, so do not assume they carry over unchanged.

Why does Claude say it cannot find my saved Buffer ideas?+

Buffer's tool list includes list_ideas and list_idea_groups, so name them in your prompt. One viewer of Buffer's setup video reported that saved ideas were not reachable even though posts worked. If it still fails after reconnecting, save the idea as a draft post instead.
