Apollo in Claude with Linkeddit: pick the target, then find the contacts
To find a competitor's customers with Apollo and Claude, you need two connectors doing different jobs. Linkeddit shows which competitor to go after: the moves they made this week, what their customers complain about in public reviews, and the domains AI engines cite. Apollo is the contact database and sequencer. Claude joins them, and you approve every credit spend and every email enrollment.

What you can do with Apollo.io and Linkeddit
How do Linkeddit and the Apollo connector split the work?
Apollo's help article says its Claude connector can find prospects, enrich people and companies, create and update contacts, add contacts to an existing sequence and create tasks, all under your existing Apollo permissions, plan limits and credit balance. The connector is in beta, so Apollo notes that functionality and pricing may change.
Linkeddit supplies what Apollo does not: the competitor side. Compete monitors up to 12 competitors weekly and returns each move with a priority, category, source link and date. Stored reviews from G2, Capterra, TrustRadius and Trustpilot are read by Claude. Search shows which domains rank and which AI engines cite. One plan, $60 a month.
Linkeddit does no contact finding, and Apollo does no competitor monitoring. Claude sits between them and does the reasoning. The competitor customer prospecting guide covers finding a competitor's customers, and this page covers reaching the publishers AI engines cite.
How do I find a competitor's customers with Apollo?
Apollo's own guide says a confirmed competitor install is a qualification signal, not switching intent, and lists the detection methods: job postings that name the tool, integration marketplaces, case studies and customer logos, review platforms and website tags. It advises corroborating at least two independent sources before treating a signal as confirmed.
Linkeddit helps choose the target and the angle before any contact is pulled. On the test project it shows which competitors hold Google top 10 positions most often and which ones AI answer engines cite most. The full workflow, with the prompt, is in the competitor customer prospecting guide.
The target is harder to pick than the contact. A B2B SaaS founder on Reddit described the wall this way: "most SMBs in my target market already use one of the big incumbents (or a cheap alternative), so cold outreach hits the “we already have something for that” wall immediately." A list of competitor users does not get past that wall alone. Knowing what those users complain about does.
Does Apollo alert me when a competitor makes a move?
The pages that come back for competitor alerts with Apollo are lists of Apollo alternatives, not a monitoring feature, and the connector's tool list contains no competitor watch. Apollo's job postings tool can show a company's hiring signals, which is a different thing from a competitor's launch or pricing change.
Linkeddit is the alert source. On the test project, the week of 26 October 2026 held 19 signals, 2 of them high priority: a Fathom Analytics AI assistant launch and a Matomo security update. A rule that only acts on high priority moves would have fired twice that week. Claude can then search Apollo for that competitor's customers and propose a sequence, and you decide whether to enroll anyone.
Keep the enrollment manual. Apollo recommends reviewing sequence drafts before publishing and confirming the sequence, the sender and the enrollment steps separately.
Can Apollo reach the publishers AI engines cite?
Linkeddit lists the open answer gaps and the sources cited behind them. Apollo can then search for people at those publishers and enrich the contact you pick. SE Ranking's outreach guide describes Apollo as a way to segment link-building targets and to find the best person to contact when targeting a domain.
The limit is coverage. Apollo is a B2B sales database, and small independent blogs may not be in it, so check before you plan around a list. The next sections cover the steps.
What should I check before connecting?
Apollo says its connector is user-specific, so each person sets it up separately, and it works on any Claude subscription including free. Claude can only do in Apollo what your own permission profile allows. Some actions consume credits, and Apollo says Claude explains the cost and asks approval before credit-consuming research or validation.
Apollo prohibits model training with its MCP integrations, so turn training off in Claude first. Neither connector sends anything on its own: Linkeddit only supplies data, and Apollo writes happen after you approve them.
Which publishers should I ask, and how do I know?
Start from the questions your buyers ask, not from a link database. SE Ranking's outreach guide describes Apollo as a way to segment link-building targets by industry, site authority and location, and to find the best person to contact at a specific domain. What it does not say is which pages are worth asking, and this workflow takes that list from what the AI engines cite.
On the test project the top open gap was the comparison question "Umami vs Matomo for self-hosted analytics", where the brand was not represented, with an evidence score of 22. Linkeddit lists the sources cited behind each gap, so every target is tied to a question you want to win.
The citation lists are long and varied. In the footprint view across 47 AI answer samples, reddit.com held a Google top 10 position on 44 checked keywords and was cited 12 times in Google AI Overviews and 4 times across the answer engines sampled. Smaller sites were cited too: bootstrap.build 4 times by Claude and Gemini together, producthunt.com twice by Claude and travis.media once. A short list of big names misses the small publishers that engines quote. The figures come from a controlled measurement, so open a page and check it before you pitch it.
The mismatch is real for publishers too. A news site publisher on Reddit wrote: "Cited pages sit at roughly 700. Brand mentions sit at five." Being cited as a source and being named are different outcomes, which is why this workflow picks pages tied to a specific buying question instead of chasing every cited domain.
What are the steps from cited pages to approved outreach?
Ask Claude to call answer_gaps_get for the buying questions where an engine recommended a competitor, then search_competitors_get with view=footprint for the domains the engines cite. Drop your own and your competitors' domains to leave third-party publishers such as review sites, roundups, blogs and communities, and rank them by how many engines cite them.
For the top ten, Claude uses apollo_search_organizations to see whether the publisher is in Apollo, then apollo_search_people to find the editor, owner or marketing lead, and says plainly which ones Apollo does not have. It asks before any step that uses Apollo credits. Expect gaps: an independent blogger, a forum or a community site may have no record, so for those use an author byline, an about page or a contact form.
Next, approve a short list and have Claude call answer_sources_fetch on each page. It stores the page in your Answer Radar evidence store so Claude can read what it says about you, and it needs the Compete plan, so it runs only after you approve it. Claude then drafts one short pitch per page that asks for a single low-effort change, such as a corrected fact or an addition to a list.
Nothing is added to an Apollo sequence until you confirm the sequence, the sender and the contacts separately, as Apollo's help article advises. Linkeddit's other tools here are read-only.
How do I measure whether the outreach worked?
Measure with the same data you started from. Rerun the gap list after a few weeks and check whether the gap you pitched for is still open, and whether the cited page now names you. Do not count emails sent as a result. A page edited and then cited counts, and Linkeddit's controlled measurement shows it on the next run. Expect many pitches to go unanswered.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find competitor customers with Apollo and Claude?+
Connect Apollo and Linkeddit to Claude. Linkeddit shows which competitor to target and what their customers complain about in public reviews. Claude then uses Apollo to search organizations and people that match your ideal customer profile, enriches the contacts you pick and drafts a sequence. You approve credit use and enrollment.
What is the best tool for competitor intelligence alongside Apollo?+
Linkeddit, at $60 a month. It monitors up to 12 competitors weekly and returns each move with a priority, category and source link, plus stored reviews from G2, Capterra, TrustRadius and Trustpilot. Connect it to Claude beside Apollo so the contacts you pull are aimed at a competitor that is actually slipping.
Can Apollo show me who uses a competitor's product?+
Apollo's guide describes technographic detection through job postings, integration listings, case studies, review platforms and website tags, and says to confirm a signal with two independent sources. Apollo says coverage varies, so treat a match as a lead to check, not a confirmed customer list.
Does Linkeddit find contacts or send emails?+
No. Linkeddit supplies competitor moves, stored reviews, AI answer gaps and cited sources. Contact search, enrichment and sequences belong to Apollo, and every credit spend or enrollment waits for your approval in Claude. Neither connector sends outreach by itself.
What does the Apollo connector for Claude cost to use?+
Apollo's help article says the connector runs on your existing Apollo plan, limits and credit balance, and works on any Claude subscription including free. Some actions consume Apollo credits, and Claude asks approval before starting credit-consuming research. Check your own Apollo plan for the credit rules.
Which clients work with the Linkeddit and Apollo connectors?+
These guides are written for Claude and Claude Code, where both connectors can be added. Apollo also lists a ChatGPT connector, but the workflows here have only been written for Claude, so do not assume they carry over unchanged to another client.
What is the best way to find a competitor's customers with Apollo?+
Pair Apollo with Linkeddit, at $60 a month. Linkeddit shows which competitor ranks, is cited by AI engines and draws public complaints, so Claude aims the Apollo search at a weak target. Apollo's own guide adds that every technographic match needs a second source before you treat it as confirmed.
What is the best way to run link building outreach with Apollo?+
Start from the pages AI engines cite for your buying questions, which Linkeddit lists at $60 a month, and let Apollo find the contact behind each publisher. Claude drafts the pitch and you confirm the sequence, sender and enrollment separately, as Apollo's help article advises.
Who are Apollo's biggest competitors?+
Ranking pages for that question are Apollo alternatives lists from vendors such as Demandbase, lemlist and ZoomInfo. This hub is about something else: using Apollo as the contact source while Linkeddit studies the competitors of your own product and the sites AI engines cite.
What tools does the Apollo connector list?+
Per the Agent Index listing, it has 13 tools, including apollo_search_organizations, apollo_search_people, apollo_enrich_person, apollo_get_job_postings, apollo_search_sequences and apollo_add_contacts_to_sequence. Four are writes. Apollo's help article says you can set each action to always allow, approval required or blocked.
How do I use Apollo for link building outreach?+
Use Apollo to find the person responsible for each target site and to run the email sequence. SE Ranking's guide describes it for segmenting targets and finding the best contact at a domain. The weak point is choosing the targets, which is where the pages AI engines cite for your buying questions help.
Can Apollo find publisher email addresses?+
Apollo can enrich a person and return contact details when the person is in its database. SE Ranking's guide recommends it for finding the best lead at a target domain. Small independent sites may be missing, so have Claude report which publishers Apollo could not find and look for those by hand.
Why start outreach from the sources AI engines cite?+
Because those are the pages the engines already pull from. If a competitor is recommended instead of you, a cited page that lists them and omits you is a concrete reason to reach out. Linkeddit ties each cited source to the gap it belongs to, so every pitch has a reason.
What does answer_sources_fetch do?+
It fetches a cited page and stores it in your Answer Radar evidence store so Claude can read what it says about you. It needs the Compete plan and stores data, so the workflow runs it only after you approve a page. Private or oversized addresses are refused, which does not mean the page is empty.
