Compete
Getting Started With Compete
Compete watches the competitors you name and turns what it finds into one weekly brief. You add a competitor, choose which sources to read, and optionally point Compete at the exact pages you care about. This guide covers the form, the limits on the Compete plan, how refreshing works, and when the first brief shows up.
Quick Answer
Open Compete, press Track competitor, enter a name or domain, tick the sources you want and add any blog, changelog or pricing URLs. Compete refreshes each competitor weekly on its own, and you can refresh by hand within daily and monthly limits. Results land in your weekly brief and on the Signals tab.
- The Compete plan tracks up to 12 competitors, with up to 6 sources and 3 monitored URLs each.
- A manual refresh has a 3 hour wait per competitor, plus 10 a day and 40 a month across your account.
- Review sites are stored as the sites show them. See the customer reviews guide.

Adding a competitor
Compete lives at /compete. The page has five tabs: Latest Brief, Competitors, Signals, Dashboard and Past Briefs. Press Track competitor at the top right and the Competitors tab opens with the form.
The form asks for a Competitor, which can be a name or a domain such as monday.com, and an optional Display name. You can leave the display name empty and the competitor name is used. Pick a Priority of Low, Medium or High. After you save, the competitor appears as a card with its sources, its priority and when it was last refreshed.
Entering a domain matters for two sources. The blog and page sources can guess common pages from a domain, such as /pricing and /changelog. A plain product name gives the page source nothing to derive pages from, so add monitored URLs yourself in that case.
Sources and monitored URLs
The form lists seven sources: Blog / changelog, Page monitor, Market signals, G2, Capterra, TrustRadius and Trustpilot. You must pick at least one. A new competitor starts with Trustpilot ticked.
Blog / changelog and Page monitor read pages, so when either is ticked a box appears for Monitored URLs, one per line. Use your competitor's blog, changelog or pricing pages. Only http and https addresses are accepted, and addresses on private or local networks are refused. The same list serves both page sources.
Market signals needs no URLs. G2, Capterra, TrustRadius and Trustpilot are review sources: they collect the reviews those sites show for the competitor and store them on the competitor's own page.
- Up to 6 sources per competitor.
- Up to 3 monitored URLs per competitor.
- A competitor can be edited later with the pencil icon, and removed with the bin icon.
Plan limits
On the Compete plan you can track up to 12 competitors at once. The refresh schedule is weekly. If you try to add a thirteenth, the form tells you to remove one to add another. The limit is checked on the server, so it holds however you add a competitor.
Refresh by hand with the refresh icon on a card. Each competitor has a wait of 180 minutes between manual refreshes. Across your account you get 10 manual refreshes a day and 40 a month, counted in UTC. The page shows how many are left today. A refresh already running for a competitor blocks a second one until it finishes.
Manual refreshes do not use up the automatic ones. Automatic refreshes have their own monthly allowance, which for the Compete plan is set high enough to cover every competitor weekly.
When refreshes and briefs happen
A scheduled job runs every hour and picks up competitors that are due. A competitor you just added has no schedule yet, so it is picked up on the next hourly run, then again about a week later. A card shows Queued while it waits, Refreshing while it works and Failed if the last run failed. After five failures in a row the automatic refresh skips that competitor until a refresh succeeds.
Each refresh updates your weekly brief for the current week, Monday to Sunday. There is one brief per week for your whole account, and it is rebuilt as each competitor finishes. Read how to interpret it in the weekly brief guide.
Your product knowledge base feeds the analysis, so keep it current. The Compete page links to it.
FAQ
Why does my new competitor say Not refreshed yet?
Competitors are refreshed by an hourly job. A new one is picked up on the next run. You can also press the refresh icon on its card, within your daily and monthly limits.
Why was my manual refresh refused?
One of four limits applies: a refresh is already running for that competitor, the 180 minute wait has not passed, you used your 10 for today, or you used your 40 for the month. The message names which one.
Do I need to add URLs?
Only for the blog, changelog and page sources, and only if you want exact pages. With a domain as the competitor, common pages are tried by default. Review and market sources need no URLs.
Can I read this data from Claude or ChatGPT?
Yes. The connector has compete_monitors_get, compete_brief_get and compete_signals_get, so your assistant can read your competitors, briefs and signals. Setup is in the connect MCP guide.
