Ahrefs Brand Radar Alternatives: Suite Add-On vs Standalone Tool
Brand Radar covers six AI platforms and rides on a suite you may or may not already pay for. That, not feature parity, is what decides whether an alternative makes sense — so this comparison starts with the add-on economics.
Key takeaways
- Ahrefs states Brand Radar maps your AI funnel across 6 AI platforms, combining tracked prompts for breadth with custom prompts for depth.
- Ahrefs does not attach a clear standalone price to Brand Radar. We fetched the product page (no dollar figures at all) and the full pricing page, where Brand Radar appears as a feature and add-on line item rather than a priced product.
- Ahrefs does publish suite pricing: plans from $99/month and $199/month, a $50/month line, extra users at $40 and $80 per month, and $0.020 per check overage.
- If you already pay for Ahrefs, the marginal cost and training burden of Brand Radar are low. If you do not, you are buying a suite to reach one module.
- Standalone alternatives that publish a price: Profound at $99/month for 50 tracked prompts and $399 for 100, and HubSpot AEO at $50/month or $45 annually for 25 prompts across 3 engines.
- Disclosure: Linkeddit sells a competing product (Answer Radar, $99/month inside Compete), held to the same evidence standard here.
01What Brand Radar is, and what Ahrefs will tell you it costs
Brand Radar is Ahrefs’ AI visibility product. Ahrefs describes it as mapping your full AI funnel across 6 AI platforms, with breadth coming from tracked prompts and depth from custom prompts. On engine coverage that puts it ahead of HubSpot AEO (3), Peec AI’s published tier (3 models) and Scrunch at entry (4), and behind Scrunch Enterprise (9) and Peec Enterprise (up to 11).
Pricing is where it gets awkward. We fetched the Brand Radar product page in full and it renders no dollar figures at all. We then fetched the main Ahrefs pricing page in full. That page does render suite pricing, but Brand Radar appears there as a feature row and an add-on line item (“Brand Radar: Custom prompts”) rather than as a product with its own published price.
02Add-on economics: the question that actually decides this
Almost every “Brand Radar alternative” page compares features. That is the wrong axis. Brand Radar is a module attached to a suite, so the decision turns on one prior question: are you paying for Ahrefs anyway?
| Your situation | What the maths looks like | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Ahrefs is already in your stack | You are adding a module to a tool your team already knows, next to rank and backlink data you already trust. The marginal cost is an add-on, not a new vendor, and the training cost is near zero. | Price the add-on before you shop elsewhere. It is usually the cheapest credible option available to you. |
| You do not pay for Ahrefs | You are buying into a full SEO suite to reach one module, on top of published plan lines starting at $99/mo and $199/mo, plus per-user costs of $40 and $80 per month. | Compare against standalone tools with published prices. The suite has to earn its place on its own merits. |
| You pay for a different suite (Semrush, Frase) | You may already be entitled to an AI visibility module you have not switched on. Frase, for example, includes AI visibility in its plans rather than selling it separately. | Audit what you already own before adding anything. |
There is a second-order argument for the suite route that is worth taking seriously. Practitioners repeatedly point out that AI answer engines still lean heavily on conventional search, so the classic SEO work a suite supports is not separate from AI visibility. One visibility-tool founder, disclosing his own stake in an r/SEO thread, estimated that AI engines currently send only 2 to 4% of traffic to most sites, and put the overlap between Google results and ChatGPT answers at no more than around 30% in his own testing. His conclusion was that for teams with limited budget, the same money often does more in classic SEO today.
If that is your situation, a suite that does both jobs may beat a standalone AI visibility tool on total value, even if the visibility module is not best in class.
03Standalone alternatives, with verified numbers only
| Tool | Entry allowance | Engines | Price on the vendor's own page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ahrefs Brand Radar | Tracked plus custom prompts | 6 AI platforms | No standalone price published |
| Profound | 50 tracked prompts | Not stated on the pricing page | $99/mo Starter, $399/mo Growth (100 prompts) |
| HubSpot AEO | 25 prompts | 3 (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity) | $50/mo, or $45 paid annually |
| Scrunch | 125 unique prompts | 4 at entry, 9 on Enterprise | Not rendered |
| Peec AI | 350 on the tier shown | 3 models, up to 11 on Enterprise | Not rendered |
| Otterly.AI | Tiers at 15 / 100 / 400 | 4 included, +3 as paid add-ons | Not rendered (+100 prompts costs $99) |
| Linkeddit Answer Radar | Included in Compete | 4 (GPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude) | $99/mo |
Two of seven publish a price. That is the state of the category, and it is worth weighing when a comparison page confidently ranks these tools by value.
| Alternative | What it gives you over Brand Radar | What you give up |
|---|---|---|
| Profound | A standalone product with a published ladder you can forecast: $99/mo for 50 tracked prompts, $399 for 100, custom Enterprise. No suite required. | No suite behind it. If you already pay for Ahrefs, you are now paying twice for overlapping workflows. |
| HubSpot AEO | The cheapest verified entry at $50/mo ($45 annual) with no other HubSpot subscription required, plus citation analysis, sentiment and prioritised recommendations. Free 25-prompt trial, no card. | 25 prompts and 3 engines against Brand Radar's 6 platforms. Still labelled beta. |
| Scrunch | Wider engine coverage on Enterprise (9 LLMs, adding Claude, Gemini, Meta AI, Grok) plus site audits, personas and query fan-out. | No published price at either tier, and entry drops to 4 LLMs. |
| Otterly.AI | Published prompt allowances and a knowable marginal cost at $99 per extra 100 prompts. | No plan price. Claude, Gemini and AI Mode are paid add-ons on top of 4 engines. |
| Linkeddit Answer Radar | Runs the loop rather than stopping at a score: measures GPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude, ranks gaps by intent and evidence, drafts a fix grounded only in the sources observed, then re-measures. $99/mo with weekly competitor intelligence. | Fewer engines than Brand Radar's 6, and no backlink or rank-tracking suite behind it. |
04The retrieval question
Whichever tool you choose, ask how it handles retrieval mode. An engine answers either from training data or from a live fetch, and those measure different things.
HubSpot states the split plainly on its own AEO Grader page: ChatGPT and Gemini pull from training data; Perplexity pulls from live search. A vendor publishing that is the clearest confirmation available that one blended score averages two behaviours that are not alike.
“AI prompt tracking can fool you into thinking you're doing great at AEO or GEO, when really you've just temporarily hijacked a search result.”
Ask whether the retrieval mode is labelled per measurement, whether the model version is recorded, and what the chart does when a run fails. A tool that logs an API failure as zero manufactures a collapse that never happened.
05The free method
If you are shopping because the add-on quote came back high, test whether you need a paid tool at all. This method was shared by an agency practitioner in r/SEO.
- List the buying questions that matter — questions, not keywords. Usually under twenty per company.
- Ask each engine twice, once with web search on and once off, recording who is named and which sources are cited.
- Extract the underlying query from Claude’s answer, Perplexity’s Steps tab, or by asking ChatGPT.
- Track those queries in your existing rank tracker — and if you already pay for Ahrefs, this step costs you nothing extra.
- Cross-check volume in Google Search Console to prioritise.
“For now, many brands are better off just using a spreadsheet and manually reviewing AI answers for a small set of queries.”
Measure the gap, then close it
06How to choose
| If this is you | Do this |
|---|---|
| You already pay for Ahrefs | Price the Brand Radar add-on first. Marginal cost and training burden are both far lower than a new vendor. |
| You do not pay for Ahrefs | Do not buy a suite to reach one module. Compare Profound ($99/mo, 50 prompts) and HubSpot AEO ($45-50/mo, 25 prompts) — the two standalone tools with published prices. |
| You need more than 6 platforms covered | Scrunch Enterprise reaches 9 LLMs and Peec Enterprise up to 11. Both require a quote. |
| AI referrals are under 5% of your traffic | Weight the suite. Classic SEO still feeds most AI answers, and the same budget currently does more there. |
| Your score never turns into an action | Pick a tool that shows the cited sources behind a loss and re-measures after you ship a fix. That is the job Answer Radar is built for. |
Frequently asked questions
How much does Ahrefs Brand Radar cost?+
Ahrefs does not attach a clear standalone price to Brand Radar on either its Brand Radar product page or its main pricing page. We fetched both in full. The product page renders no dollar figures at all. The pricing page renders Ahrefs suite pricing, including plans from $99/month and $199/month, a $50/month line, extra users at $40 and $80 per month, and a $0.020 per check overage, but Brand Radar appears as a feature and add-on line item rather than a priced product. Treat any Brand Radar figure you see in a third-party roundup as unverified and ask Ahrefs directly.
What is the best Ahrefs Brand Radar alternative?+
If you want a standalone tool with a published price, Profound is the clearest at $99/month for 50 tracked prompts and $399/month for 100, and HubSpot AEO is cheaper at $50/month or $45 annually for 25 prompts across three engines with no other subscription required. If you want breadth of engine coverage, Scrunch reaches 9 LLMs on its enterprise tier. If your problem is that a visibility score never turns into a change, the alternative is a tool that runs measure, fix and re-measure as one loop, which is where Linkeddit's Answer Radar sits at $99/month with competitor intelligence included.
Is Brand Radar worth it if I already pay for Ahrefs?+
That is the only question that really matters here, and it usually answers itself. If Ahrefs is already in your stack and your team lives in it, the marginal cost and the marginal training burden of adding Brand Radar are far lower than onboarding a separate vendor, and you get AI visibility next to the rank and backlink data you already trust. If you do not pay for Ahrefs, the calculation inverts: you are buying into a suite to reach one module, and a standalone tool with a published price will almost always be simpler to justify.
How many AI platforms does Ahrefs Brand Radar cover?+
Ahrefs states that Brand Radar maps your AI funnel across 6 AI platforms, combining breadth from tracked prompts with depth from custom prompts. For comparison, Scrunch covers 4 LLMs at entry and 9 on enterprise, Otterly includes 4 with Claude, Gemini and Google AI Mode sold as paid add-ons, HubSpot AEO covers 3, and Peec AI shows 3 models on its published tier with up to 11 on enterprise.
Do AI visibility tools measure with web search on or off?+
Most do not disclose it, and it changes what the number means. HubSpot documents the distinction openly on its own AEO Grader page: ChatGPT and Gemini pull from training data while Perplexity pulls from live search. A retrieval-on result reflects whichever pages currently rank, so it is quick to gain and quick to lose. A retrieval-off result reflects whether the model itself associates your brand with your category, which is slower and more durable. Any tool that blends both into one trend line without labelling the mode is reporting a number without error bars.
Can I track AI visibility without a paid tool?+
For a small question set, yes. Ask each engine your buying questions, then pull out the underlying search query it ran: Claude usually lists it in the answer, Perplexity shows it under the Steps tab, and ChatGPT will tell you if you ask. Track those queries in the rank tracker you already own, tag them as LLM-sourced, and cross-check impressions in Google Search Console. That gives you the same underlying signal most dashboards resell. It stops working past roughly twenty to thirty prompts, or once you need history and shared access.
